This can't be overrated for the simple fact that it's a new anime. It's hardly been rated at all. But so far I really like what i'm seeing. The artwork, mood, ambience and slightly disturbing scenes. All reasons why it's one of my top 5 anime for this season.

In my opinion, this show is overrated based on its rating and considering the plot is entirely cheezy and predictable. You already know that Sakuragi is going to cark it eventually as a bro by the 1st episode. The "disturbing" content is really just a cheap way for mindless people to chalk up its ratings by another point or two because they think since they are watching a non-moe anime, it INSTANTLY makes that show "edgy" and "against the crowd so IT MUST BE GOOD".

The plot and twists are weak as hell. For the most part, the content of the next ep is always predictable because the characters are so stereotypical bro you automatically know how they are going to act. The "awesome" strategies that Uncovered creates are actually really childish that actually looks like it should belong in some kind of highschool anime instead of a "realistic" post-war prison setting.

This anime is already 8.21 so when the series concludes, it will probably jump up to around 8.44 or something which is entirely undeserved considering the types of shows that are around that mark such as Darker than Black and Spice and Wolf.

It fails on plot and characters so that means most people are giving it such high ratings based on its mise en scene which is good in my opinion but not good enough to warrant a high rating entirely based on that. That leads me to the conclusion that people are just rating it high just cause its not moe, has a dark atmosphere = LOLDEEPFAGS.

Admittedly, there are some "cheesy" parts, but it definitely works with the story, and definitely isn't overdone...The predictable nature of the show is also somewhat necessary. If the antagonists and protagonists weren't so clear-cut, many of the scenes in the anime would lost a lot of its power. Heck, if they didn't make the protagonists so clear-cut, the anime would have made a lot less sense. Hmm, the disturbing content being a cheap way to chalk up ratings? Nah, a lot of that disturbing content was needed. Without it, once again, certain scenes just wouldn't have nearly the same amount of impact.

Hmm, the overall content of let's say...Akagi, was even more predictable. Yet, you gave it quite a nice score. You really can't put this series down for the same reason, especially since it really wasn't trying to be a "zomg plot-twist" type of anime.

Hmm...

Yeah, people said great things about this show, but I find it hard to sit down and watch more than one episode. There's just no reason to want to watch another, since there's basically no interesting plot. I have a couple episodes left, and then I'll be free from this rather redundant show.

Posting in an old thread but..
If you're female and watching this show then.. well, I don't want to be sexist, but it's not made for you. It's about becoming a man and about male bonds. You wouldn't understand.

I'd say the main reason people can't appreciate this anime as a masterpiece is because

1. They're females
2. They're too young

-----

My point here is don't diss a show and get all bitchy just because you're not the target audience.

Like all things in life; (blank) is in the eye of the beholder. (blank = masterpiece in this case)

Well I'm both a man and fit the target audience yet I didn't feel this show was a masterpiece at all. Everyone has different opinions, how hard is that to understand? What may seem like a masterpiece to you may seem OK to someone else or even bad, this works both ways.

i disagree i would call it under-rated, many people who watch pointless moe comedy anime time in time may say that this is overated because of the fact that it is getting fair share of popularity from more people, i for one would rather watch this "Gem", that waste my time, watching and hearing those fck*** annoying moe squeels, flat tits, brocon siscon, pointless harem.

6 episodes in and I'm not seeing any brilliance in this show. We'll see how it goes from here...

Yes, it is definitely overrated.

I'm assuming this is a bad skimmed adaptation from the manga using only the pivotal moments of bonding because the lack of proper foundation of the characters makes me careless and uninterested in their journey.

From a terrible intro of six teenagers who go into their cell and attempt to talk to their new cellmate who's rude to them, calling them kids, mocking them for no apparent reason to instigate them, followed by beating them all up with his boxing, until the security guard comes to beat him with his stick and pressure them to hit them with it, which they refuse to and for whatever reason feel sympathy for him.
With no proper explanation or revealement they comprehend each other. Skip to a month later, with no depth, they're friends.
Finally to episode four from where I stopped, while they're backstories on fact seem interesting, they're unconditional bond with random episodic plots with forceful glorified music and dialogue is fake.

Unfortunately, even though the surface of the characters seems good with the potential of their situations, the story is ruined with flaws of forcing glory of bonding with no proper foundation of development to their bond. 4/10.

Hell no its not overrated. It tells a great story. Gintama is overrated, some of these other idiotic animes are overrated, but not Rainbow.

It sure is. It has a huge problems like lack of subtlety, unneded characters, way too much forced drama, nakama power, 1 dimensional antagonists and retarded character moments, superficial themes and unrealistic in ideals.

Not even Madhouse can fix this.
