You already know that Sakuragi is going to cark it eventually as a bro by the 1st episode. The "disturbing" content is really just a cheap way for mindless people to chalk up its ratings by another point or two because they think since they are watching a non-moe anime, it INSTANTLY makes that show "edgy" and "against the crowd so IT MUST BE GOOD".
The plot and twists are weak as hell. For the most part, the content of the next ep is always predictable because the characters are so stereotypical bro you automatically know how they are going to act. The "awesome" strategies that Uncovered creates are actually really childish that actually looks like it should belong in some kind of highschool anime instead of a "realistic" post-war prison setting.
This anime is already 8.21 so when the series concludes, it will probably jump up to around 8.44 or something which is entirely undeserved considering the types of shows that are around that mark such as Darker than Black and Spice and Wolf.
It fails on plot and characters so that means most people are giving it such high ratings based on its mise en scene which is good in my opinion but not good enough to warrant a high rating entirely based on that. That leads me to the conclusion that people are just rating it high just cause its not moe, has a dark atmosphere = LOLDEEPFAGS.
Admittedly, there are some "cheesy" parts, but it definitely works with the story, and definitely isn't overdone...The predictable nature of the show is also somewhat necessary. If the antagonists and protagonists weren't so clear-cut, many of the scenes in the anime would lost a lot of its power. Heck, if they didn't make the protagonists so clear-cut, the anime would have made a lot less sense. Hmm, the disturbing content being a cheap way to chalk up ratings? Nah, a lot of that disturbing content was needed. Without it, once again, certain scenes just wouldn't have nearly the same amount of impact.
Hmm, the overall content of let's say...Akagi, was even more predictable. Yet, you gave it quite a nice score. You really can't put this series down for the same reason, especially since it really wasn't trying to be a "zomg plot-twist" type of anime. |
