The CG was a bit too obvious sometimes and the designs really look alot like FMA, but I'm going to follow this.
As a christian european I'm rooting for the Lusitanians though ;)

Somebody recommended this to me so I started watching this with that "why not" feeling without really knowing what it was about - dahahaayum. This is good. This is really good. The ending is fantastic. The CGI will take me some getting used to, but Arakawa Hiromu's art is always a bonus.

Beautiful character designs.. at first I was a bit worried on another adaptation of Arslan senki, especially when I saw that trailers of CG cavalry charge. But when it shown up in the series it looked more 'fit in' perhaps because they handling the transition between CGI with drawn scene carefully.

They really didn't waste time for info dumping on first episode, which is good, in truth I almost can't believe they could convey the world-build setting so well in just one episode. Especially regarding the cultural differences and the general attitude of the people from both kingdoms.

I can't wait for the next episode!

I'm fine with Arslan, as saw in the arts he also got some cool face later on.
Totally agree with Farangi though.. I don't know what decision changes her from this:

So many of the characters had better designs in the original ova than they do now :(

I'm hoping this isn't setting a trend for when LOGH gets its reboot.

Amazing episode!

I really wish Madan no ou to Vanadis had the same budget as this one.

This seems more serious and shows the difference in class system between poor/slaves and rich.

Also Arakawa's design is good, but i can't really remove Ed's picture whenever i see Arslan XD

Good stuff! Hope to see good things for this episode :)

I'm so happy I picked up this anime! I just finished watching 12 Kingdoms recently so I'm going through a little withdrawal, lol. I'm excited to see the character growth that our little Prince Arslan will go through. Yey! Not all rulers have to be brute. I like that Prince Arslan is interested in learning about other kingdoms and that (maybe he'll rule / expand his kingdom with kindness and not brute-ness). The animation / character design is meh.. and that ugly CG needs to go away (who started this trend??). Oh well, I'm in it for the storyline. Looking forward to the next episode / development of the series. (":

4/5. Decent animation heavily worsened by the use of CG. I can't stand those bloody soldiers, really. The setting looks original and quite well made. The plot seems interesting so far, and I appreciated they kept from adding clichéd comic sketches. I also like the characters, although I can see why Arslan could easily be hated. But I say we should give him some time. Let's see how he develops, huh? Promising first episode.

Not sure if this means the anime will follow the novel or means that they already have the filler ending prepared.

I really like the visuals and the OST of this. Quite well done though the CGI may be a little wonky from time to time.
Arslan's parents are dicks, but I guess being a King and a Queen may be difficult.

Hmm, so the other kid escapes and Arslan learns more about the truth of the world.
And to the future! Transform young Arslan into the heroic legend that he is!
I’m always searching for something, for someone. This feeling has possessed me I think, from that day… That day when the stars came falling.

I have seen a lot of people writing that this was the most anticipated show and that this is the best show of the season.

I must be the only one that disliked it then. The MC, Arslan reminds me of takayama, from Rail wars. Both kind of pussies to be honest. He kind of annoyed me by not letting his guard kill the boy that might give him trouble in the future. And running away with him, he could of slapped his hand and run towards the guards and let them kill the little bastard but whatever. I will probably going to end up dropping it since it seems that he will become a huge cunt in the following episodes. I might be wrong, but i will see.

Yeah, I'm dropping this now before it ruins it any further.

For everyone who doesn't know, Arslan Senki is a series of novels by the author of Legend of the Galactic Heroes. It's not supposed to be an anime for children occupying the slot of Nanatsu no Taizai or to have cutesy character designs.

I only hope this flops hard so they never think about revisiting Legend of the Galactic Heroes to kiddify it.

I find it funny when people complain about a main character being weak and naive in the first episode. The the kid some slack, he's 11 and he's lived a fairly sheltered life up until now. If he was already a badass, there wouldn't be a lot of room for character development! If he's still weak and naive at the end, then you can complain.

Really not liking the character design and art style.

Arakawa just has such a distinctive style that everyone ends up looking pretty damn similar to FMA or Hero Tales characters.

From what I've seen of it I MUCH prefer the design/look of the older OVA adaptation of this. Those designs seem to suit the sort of serious tone the series is going for. Arakawa's look too kiddy to take serious in this setting.

Holy shit the older designs look so much better to me. If this is what modern studios do to characters then I shudder at the thought of what the new Legend of the Galactic Heroes adaptation is going to look like.

Interesting start. Everything looks great. I'm liking most the Middle-eastern setting and of course, the bishies. :3 I wonder what's the deal with the Queen towards her kid and husband and it's one thing I look forward to know (though I have few assumptions).

I'm missing FMA quite a bit so this is a great fill coming from the same mangaka, though not his story this time, just the art...but that's still great.

Not bad, I thought something happened more in the first episode but that's okay, come on. The narrative gave a hint of a plot too obvious as history, but we overlook for now. The drawings and the sets are beautiful, but they were not called into question, since I already had a taste with other TV series made by the same artist. The CG is really awful, an eyesore in the scenes minors. Let's see how it continues.

So that would lead to a class conflict on those Bourgeoisie!!! I do not like the char design, and I like bishounen... looks too much like FMA, who I also hate their character style..Also I seriously find the "prince" annoying, his naivety borderlines stupidity......will continue to see if it gets better story/animation wise though...1st ep was just "ok"....the character designs are not changing soz...yea....old designs looked way better...no hot dudes here...

Strongly disagree with everyone calling this an average episode. Absolutely excellent pacing. Not a huge fan of the CGI, but it's unobtrusive enough to forgive; the animation is demanding as hell already. I sincerely doubt there to be anything else this season with this much potential.

It's also here that I feel obliged to remind people that it is not a story's concept that drives it, it is how it is executed. Arslan Senki's first episode provided a clear conflict, some quick character development (prince going from useless and 'timid' to a saviour), and a foreshadowing of what is to come. It's only a setup and not the meat of the story, so I'd consider anyone who judges it now to be a little too harsh.

Must be two or three cours.

I agree with this. Also the CGI critic is stupid because they actually made it as less annoying as possible. It wasn't horribly made atr all. Things like the Berserk movies were 100 times worse.

Phew, that was quite a wild and adventurous start. I'm really liking what this is setting up thus far. The CGI soldiers can be a bit awkward at times, but overall it's looking gorgeous. The scale of the palace and city in particular just makes it all feel larger than life. That giraffe was a big surprise! I like how this is handling the subject of slavery among other things such as the clash of ideologies.

The CGI wasn't really obtrusive. It was the worst at the beginning, but I still don't get why so many are complaining. I really like the character designs too. Arslan's father and mother in particular have interesting designs.

I thought Arslan was very interesting for a first episode, especially considering he's only 11 here. (Why people expect children to act so absurdly beyond their years, I don't understand. He already seemed very mature for his age, and an optimistic outlook is scorned far too often.) I like how he sees the kingdom as good- even his perception of the slaves is that they basically have good lives, since they're taken care of (food, lodging). The use of the Lusitanian boy to challenge this simplistic outlook was handled well, though I must admit I'm a little apprehensive about the religious aspects. (I did like how quick Arslan was to counter, though.)

In any case, we got a decent amount of worldbuilding, some good insight into Arslan's early formative period, and some foreshadowing on the kingdom's fate. From the very limited perspective we're given, it's hard to say whether Pars is a good kingdom or a bad one. I think this was deliberate to keep the audience from gaining perspective inaccessible to such a young child. It was a very nice touch.

Other small flourishes helped as well. For example, from what (admittedly little) I know about (actual) swordfighting, the sparring at the beginning seemed quite plausible. Note how Arslan tries to block and deflect with the broad side of his blade (with limited success): This is to prevent the sword from being damaged, since striking blades edge to edge nicks the blades and wears them out quicker. He also tries to block/deflect with the lower part of the blade, which is good because he maintains more control over the blade that way, and he could potentially use it as a lever should the blades catch. It was a very fun scene. Others scenes such as the giraffe scene were also notable.

I did take slight note of the OST. I usually don't pay much conscious attention to it unless it's particularly good or bad. In this case I think it works well.

Overall it was an excellent introduction episode. It was one of the best first episodes I've seen in quite awhile, actually. If it's at all indicative of the story's overall quality, then I think this has a ton of potential.

I didn't think this episode was awesome, but it was a very good start. The king is a jerk and Arslan's mother is so cold to him. Even though Arslan's parents don't seem to care about him, he is probably still happy because he was raised by a royal nanny and doesn't realize what a normal parental relationship is.

I've watched the old OVAs a few years back, but I've forgotten what happened so it's like watching a new series lol but I remember I really liked it and wished that one day a full anime (not just 6 episodes) would be made for the series, and voila, it came true in 2015. I was so happy when I first heard the news there would be an anime adaptation for this series! I hope this one would be better overall and has a better ending, less of a cliffhanger than the other adaptation.

I thought that was a pretty good first episode! Though I wish in the later episodes Arslan will look less "child-like" (it's understandable that he does now, since he is only 11).
