Man, this season really has been something else. Both Atla and Fohl looked like underdogs in their fights against a much larger opponent but neither gaves up. Gotta respect Fohl especially with all the pain he's endured.

They were fighting with purpose though. And plus, Fohl really did have an eye for fightin what he believes in.

Jealous over your ally, backstabbing and killing your ally just because he was better than you. Using every method of cheating and the use of poison. This lion didn't have any pride for being a lion.

A full episode just being a duel that will continue into episode 5. Do they really need 3 episodes to cover one duel? Maybe I’m overthinking things.

Accuse the enemy of that which you are guilty of. This cowardly lion's been studying.

The sacred traditional duel with no rules or customs dictating honor whatsoever is underway. Very slow, very talky, flashback overload. They did cook for a hot second with that shot of Lion Jaralis charging at Fohl. Additionally, Fohl has achieved a new power in Supreme Furry Mode, meaning that now he might stop jobbing out to his sister during training.

And now, some fodder has entered the ring, presumably to give Naofumi something to fight. Leaving Siltvelt is the prize for defeating Jaralis.

Besides from a temporary better animation quality, this is truly a furry paradise episode. That lion guy transform from level 3 furry to level 5 furry while that tiger boy transform from level 2 furry to level 4 furry.

The thing about this show is that most of the characters and countries are all terrible and unlikeable. Oh you didn't like the human kingdom? Get ready for the beastman country that follows the exact same ideology of discrimination, arrogance and aristocracy that they hated the humans for, plus just a touch of simping for the shield hero which proves to be questionable yet still. It's honestly hard to gaf about any of the beastman in this country.

Naofumi and crew better leave this country for good by next episode and never come back for everybody's including the viewers' sake. Else I'm ready to skip ahead a few episode because the story is getting quite cliché and insufferable.

This was epic, the Atla scene was good but I didn't think it was fantastic, but Fohl's fight was very good and seeing it together with the past from Fohl's perspective was exciting, I expected a bigger peak in this episode besides the end of the arc but since the fights were good "especially Fohl's in terms of animation and emotion" and in the next episode there will still be a fight I'm excited to be surprised.

Again, another good episode. But what the fuck is this pacing? like genuinely, i'm a novel reader and even I don't like the way they're approaching this. I get we're adapting only 2 novels this season, but to edge us again with the fight is just unreal.

I've never seen pacing like this with isekai, while I can appreciate how they're taking their time with the content. I feel like there's just certain stuff you cannot slow down extremely on, visuals were cool tho. and that beast transformation was sick, all the additions to the past wars, flashbacks with their parents. it was all done super well, same with how the episode ended too.

but man i just don't understand what the main team is doing with this, this is fleshing out the story sure. but like too much

3.5/5, it was okay.

Hands down one of the best ever shield hero episodes and my fave in a very long time, lowkey it might be my fave overall because I love Atla and Fohl so much. The way I damn near cried at the end seeing Fohl refuse to give up and his flashbacks.. the animation of the fights today.. couldn’t ask for more. People still complaining about the pacing in this season when we’ve long established this is going to be Atla and Fohl arc and focusing on the history of Siltvelt.. it’s moving at exactly the pace it’s supposed to, shield hero is more than just Myne and the wave fights lol.

Tyran was the sort of comrade and hero everyone in a country should be proud to have. Strong, but kind. So kind in fact his own father disowned because how dare you not want to kill people! Dude didn’t even want the spotlight, but his simple existence was too much for Jaralis to bear. He couldn’t stand the idea of someone getting more love and attention than him so he cowardly took out Tyran by literally stabbing him in the back. It’s funny how lions are usually the personification of bravery and courage and Jaralis is the biggest coward around. His death can’t come soon enough.

Fohl is so real for fighting through the poison to punch the shit out of Jaralis for speaking ill on his father. The way he’s literally just projecting all his insecurities and shortcomings onto Tyran.. even now, he’s plotting and bringing his goons to a fight because he’s a loser

The build up to Fohl’s beast transformation with him reliving all his “failings”(not his fault at all) and how he couldn’t protect his mom and prevent he and Atla from falling into hardship really got to me. One of my fave moments from the series thus far. I can’t wait to see him shine next week.

Atla’s animation went so hard today too, they’re giving a lot of love to best girl which is all I can ask for. Now please drop some damn figures and more atla merch 🙏🏾 😂

Jaralis really is the definition of pure scum with what he has done. The coward only wants to save himself and gain all the glory by sacrificing others, but knowing more of the past and how he was the one to kill Fohl and Atla's father shows he's past the point of no return when it comes of redeeming himself. His fight against Fohl was slow, but tense and gripping, where things step up everytime he uses underhanded tactics to gain the advantage as well as constantly goading Fohl on again and again.

At least Atla had a fair fight against the bull warrior and he respected her talent even in defeat, which is another reminder as to why she's awesome. The animation quality for this episode got into its stride during the second half and is was very good, so I do hope this fight ends quickly and Jaralis getting a taste of his own medicine.

Yuka Kuroda worked on this episode... not sure, but I don’t think Ninja Skooler exists anymore. Kind of sad that Kuroda is just listed as an action animator here, since both are under Ogasawara.

The episode itself was a mess as well. Again, for some reason, Atla gets all the good sakuga for the second season in a row. Fohl's fight looked broken asf, especially the backgrounds, but the SFX really didn’t help. It gave off weird OP SFX flashbacks.

And honestly, with the production desk, AniP, and the editing guy all directing this one... yeah, I’d be done with this show too.

jaralis: "your face is pathetic just like your father's"

fohl: "meow"

now doing an analysis of the animation atla scenes were at the same level as his scenes in season 3 but although the animation is very good the scenes are short, I can understand they gave more focus on fohl fight and on it from the moment jaralis transforms the level of the fight went up absurdly and this new transformation was awesome I can't wait to see fohl fighting.

@hypexleaks This is a double-edged sword, If the anime adapts quickly, it will cut important scenes but will have a greater number of scenes and arcs, including the climaxes.

If the anime adapts slowly, it will feel sluggish and uninteresting to those who haven't read the novel. However, this means there will be more adapted scenes, and the story and characters will be better developed.

Ultimately, depending on the anime, I prefer a slower or faster adaptation, but it's impossible to please everyone when it comes to story pacing.

@IzanaSolos I can understand your analysis, Atla received beautiful scenes, but they were extremely short, unlike Fohl's fight, which had more scenes in addition to reaching the peak of the transformation.

Personally, I found the animation level of this episode "weak" compared to the climaxes of season 3, but perhaps, like episodes 1, 2 and 8, 9 of the season 3, the next episode will reach a higher level.

Very good episode. Atla's fight was a bit underwhelming, but the scene with her final technique landed really well. Fohl definitely got a boost in his character development—the backstory and drama worked nicely for him. Looking forward to the next episode!

6:46 Sadeena getting in Fohl's way. Lol

10:42 This animation of the bull running was good, but right after that, Atla is in the air over the bull but doesn't show her jumping, I found that a bit disjointed."It's just a small complaint of mine."
The scene of Atlas final blow is similar, but also a bit inferior, to the scene from episode 9 of season 3.

12:48 It was a pleasure to see Fohl send Jaralis flying with a nice punch.

16:53 From this point on, the rest of the episode was cinematic. The animation was great, but for me, what stood out most were the flashbacks followed by Fohl overcoming during the fight.
It's also worth mentioning that the soundtrack, "as usual," is splendid during Fohl transformation.
Finally, the episode ended without the fight ending, so I'll have to wait another week until the peak of the next episode. 😭

It would have been nice if the lion was not actually a terrible traitor and instead simply schemed with the shield hero but alas, we got a Fohl power up.

I did not take the whole white tiger sub plot serious (I still dont tbh) but yeah this was cool. A bit deus ex machina but well..

Damn it was just getting good too, WHY DID IT HAVE TO END ON SUCH A COOL MOMENT!

Of course Atla was able to clap Lyceras’ cheeks, that goes without saying, but the real show here was the battle between Fohl and Jaralis.

Jaralis finally revealed what really happened to Tyran, the father of Fohl and Atla and a White Tiger born stronger than the previous king, but not with the desire for conflict. Due to Jaralis being jealous of the glory that Tyran receives, he had the audacity to kill him in cold blood, and then start bragging about it to Fohl before drinking some red drug thing to transform beyond his beastman appearance, overwhelming Fohl… until… Fohl transformed into a beastman, ready to clap all them cheeks (NO HOMO). Just when you think Jaralis couldn’t get more scummy, he sends in multiple beastman to jump Fohl in what is supposed to be a one on one fight.

Well next episode Fohl is about to put it some work and show the strength of the White Tigers!

No real explanation for why he confesses, even though it's so obviously a plot hole that even characters in the episode are confused.

Really good episode, we finally got more backstory for the brother sister duo, some amazing fights, and incredible animation. I don't mind the episode carrying into the second act. I just hope we don't rush the second part of the season with Raphtalia going to her homeland. Also Fohl got a beastmand transformation, finally dude needs a win. Atla has been outshining him for the longest time. Also that lion character is such a cowardly cheat, who could have guessed, lmao.

@amf85 I understand your point but it's idiotic to call this a "plot hole" when the fight and the arc aren't over yet.

And if that doesn't have an answer, I suppose Jaralis confessed just to irritate and destabilize Fohl, or maybe he just wanted to throw in Fohl's face that he was the one who killed his father.

@Desmascarado It would have to be a REALLY good answer. From what I can tell, Jaralis' lie about their dad destabilized the entire society and led to the downfall of a national hero and his entire species that was previously quite powerful. Admitting that in front of the public is...just such a dumb move, and for what?

I think the answer is "so that Fohl gets angry enough to power up," which is a dumb answer and just lazy writing. We know that there isn't something WE'RE missing as the viewers because the people in the episode are also confused as to why he's doing it. You're right, I suppose next episode it could be revealed that there is some genius reason for it all, but it seems so dumb and so unnecessary that I struggle to imagine what it would be.
