What a relief seeing Aoi's grandmother pass off her granddaughter to her mother, even if she met Makoto along the way who's going to his grandfather's place to know more about his mother's temperament about denying the feminity within Makoto.

It all started with his grandfather copying her femininity, that his mother finds disgusting, and vows not to have Makoto be influenced by his grandfather. Of course, Makoto's grandfather's work on altering women's dresses, the grandson doesn't find him weird, since they're birds of the same feather. Even with his next-door neighbour of a woman who finds Makoto a joy to be with, and even trying to put makeup on him, the latter feels joy and a sense of rest within his house.

Aoi and Ryuki convene together in school, unfortunately without Makoto as snow hits the region hard that there's no transport back home, and his girly emotions still wranging the deep feeling in his heart to come clean about his femininity, especially with his mother. And without any pretenses, Makoto wants his mother to see the real him: a boy who loves the feminine stuff, dressing up in his usual school shtick to prove to her that he'll be fine as he is - a tomgirl. Even a small date between mother and son is good enough, and with Makoto being comfortable in a girl's skin, his mother may've been uncomfortable all the time, but Makoto has friends that account for him all the time.

What a show, Makoto is Him. I'm gonna miss this show, it's one of the hidden gems of the Summer season.

Sequel movie announced for Valentine's Day next year.

WOW. For a moment, I thought maybe Makoto’s mom had internalized transphobia, but no, she’s just awful. Her trauma doesn’t excuse being a bad mom or a transphobe. But dismissing her as prejudiced for no reason is just as bad as transphobes saying trans people are “pretending” or “doing it for attention.” She really thought her dad (or second mom since she’s trans) copying her and being happy was so bad that now she hates all cute things? That’s so dumb.

And of course, she raised a transphobic daughter—what a cursed uno reverse. I can’t imagine giving up nail polish and jewelry just because you’re scared of "transing" your kid. Which makes this only thing even more unclear with her development. She made excuses like "even if I accept, others won’t." That’s not really your problem, is it? Seems like it’s just in her nature to be transphobic. On another note though, someone give his dad a crown because wow, he is an absolute CHAD. Decent finale in the end though, I guess. Did wrap everything up pretty well. More well that I would've expected.

It’s a bit late to say, but I’m still surprised by how deep the characters and writing are. The anime started as a fun romcom, but once the drama began, it became so much more than I thought. Granted, the manga/manhwa probably has better writing, but even still for a rushed adaption like this one (mind you ELEVEN chapters were adapted in this episode alone LOL), this was still good.

In a season, or rather just state of anime we are currently in where multiple romcom's are fed to us every season, this one was a nice breath of fresh air. Who woulda thunk all ya needed was a femboy to spice up your romcom lol.

Only complaint I'd have to say it pacing. I would've understood if they wanted to adapt all 100 chapters in this one season, but they stopped at a very weird place, so I don't really understand the reason for fast pacing that cut some stuff due to it. Manhwa or Manga is better, but not a bad anime whatsoever.

Wow man I can’t believe it’s over. No more weekly doses of my non binary queen Makoto 😢 BUT WE ARE GETTING A MOVIE!!

So everything with Makoto mom went just as a I expected. She took her insecurities and “pain” from her father being a cross dresser out on Makoto but I just find that conflict so dumb. I can understand being a little weirded out by your dad taking your stuff, but to just hate him and cut him out your life because he’s living his truth is crazy. Then to do the same to Makoto.. maybe try understanding WHY the people in your life are into that and just love them for who they are rather than hating them or acting like they’re criminals.

At the end of the day we all just want to be accepted by those we care about. Makoto by their mom, the grandfather by his daughter and Aoi by her mom. This finale was a nice conclusion to most of that with the exception of the grandfather and Makoto’s mom which hopefully we’ll see in the movie next year or a season 2.

No matter how rocky the relationship started at the beginning of this season, Makoto and their mom got a really sweet ending here today and I’m glad they can finally go shopping together and do “girly things” together. And would you look at that, they even have the same tastes so she did all that hating and could’ve had a bestie as a child 😂

“Dad asked me if I wanted to live as a boy or live as a girl. I want to live as myself” but I like things girls like” checkmate to all the non binary deniers. It was apparent ever since episode 5 or 6 or whenever they had that basketball club analogy where Aoi told Makoto they didn’t have to “choose either side”, but this is a nice confirmation.

Only complaint I really got with this ending is we still didn’t really resolve anything with Makoto and Ryuji.. since the movie comes out around Valentine’s Day I wonder if the love triangle will again be the focus. Still had a lot of fun with this and it was such a mature take on a delicate topic! I’ll miss it 😢

Even tho it's not perfect and people would skip this anime. It's really good tbh, it shows ups and downs with people relationship, what they love hate. I love how there where together as friends in the end and not forcing relationship between them. I love how both Makoto and Aoi mother are trying to fix things even tho they don't fully support it like Makoto mother or Aoi mother trying to be mother after so many years. It still show some kinda harship that not everything is easily archieved.

Look like the mysterious Aoi's mother plot is not fully resolved yet, that's probably why the movie is necessary.

And that's how you end a season ✨❤️

I'm so happy that Makoto and his mom got to know and accept each other better..🥺❤️

We can understand that Makoto's mom might have had her own insecurities after knowing about her dad and navigating through all that. She might have been all alone without someone there to help her. Thank God , Makoto's dad was such a blessing to her. He is so open minded and he even kept in touch with Makoto's grandpa while still helping his son get through the same challenges that his father-in-law must have faced and meanwhile helping his wife understand his son better. I love how Makoto's grandpa decided to live the life that he's happy with but that doesn't mean he shouldn't try to reconnect with his daughter. But Makoto didn't do the same thing like sacrificing one good thing for another and managed to get along with his mom while still being whom he wanted to be..💖💖

I'm glad Saki's trip with her mom was pleasant without any drama.

The thing that made we think a lot was when Makoto's mom told him that how changing his backpack to black colour changed people's initial perception of Makoto looking like a girl...That's how our society has made things by defining a colour solely for a particular gender and can't be considered as cute by the opposite sex.

This in itself was an ending that I'm happy with but we are getting a movie as well. It must be the one that will tell us who Makoto will end up with I guess.

I agree. I felt the webtoon had a lot more impact, but that might just be cause this is the second time I'm experiencing this story. The webtoon art is top-tier so I never expected the anime to compare. This was still a great adaptation on its own.

Seeing is believing. Now that Makoto's mom saw for herself that he made great friends she can be relieved, not worrying about him not fitting in anymore. Definitely makes it easier for her to take the next step towards a healthy relationship. And with that load off her mind I would like to see her reconciling with her dad as well. Maybe in the movie.

Anyway, nice that she's overall coming around and even enjoys shopping with Makoto. The perks of having a femboy son xD

This anime was refreshingly different for that I gotta give it a 7/10

Finally, Makoto’s mother understood that her son likes being a girl more than a boy. She wouldn’t admit it, but we all see how much fun they had when they were shopping cute things.

Aoi’s mothers is amazing as well. Too bad for her to abandon her daughter, but they seem to have a beautiful relationship, like a good daughter and mother should be. The ending was great too.

I have high hopes for a second season. I saw they are planning to make a movie sequel.

Interesting show for sure, way more serious themes than I expected, I was expecting mainly comedy, but I’m good with this too.

The last ep tied up a lot of loose ends, but I would love to see how the main character triangle plays out.

It’s hard to believe this show would get 2 seasons AND a movie, so I’m thinking there will be some kind of resolution in the movie.

Anyway I definitely enjoyed it 7/10.

Yeah her father was crossdressing like it was hinted before. Understandable why she'd be traumatised and definitely didn't want her son to turn up like that. Though happy for Makoto and his family as they were able to come to an understanding as his mother finally calmed down and tried to understand things. The woman at his grandpa's place was amusing btw so hoping to see more of her. Also I'm fretting over how Saki's mother could be connected to Makoto's family as Ryuuji mentioned she looks like Makoto. Pretty nice finale which wrapped things up for the season well. Even without the movie I wouldn't have minded if this was it but since it was announced it's nice.

I finished reading the manga a few weeks ago, but I'm so glad they animated everything. It's so important they showed Makoto's grandfather, how he started and how he lives now. And also Makoto's mom accepting his lifestyle is so wholesome. I am so happy to have known this gem (even if I wanted Makoto and Ryuuji to end up together, but oh well...)

Glad to see that Saki and her mother had a good time.
The grandfather was a crossdresser as expected, they gave away enough hints in the last couple of episodes.
Makoto had fun either way, it wasn't a bad experience for him.
Glad to see his mother came around at the end there.
This series was fine, I will watch the movie eventually.

Nice little ending to the season. I really appreciate how much nuance each character is treated in this anime and how that correlates to many real world relationships
Am happy for makoto for slowly getting their mother's acceptance ;D
I'm only a little envious
There are a few loose plot threads so I am very much looking forward to the upcoming movie

I'm happy for Makoto and his character development. Nice to see Makoto's mother gradually learning to accept her child's decision as well - not fully, of course, but it's a good start. I'm definitely looking forward to the movie; this would've been an unsatisfying season otherwise with the remaining plot points.

I honestly wasn't a fan of the first episode at all and was so sure I wasn't gonna like this show, but I'm glad I gave it a chance. Although there're some drama cliches here and there, overall it does a solid job of giving the main characters depth and making us care for them. It's especially interesting to see their different views on love, and I hope we'll be able to see all three main characters reach a good conclusion in regards to that in the end. But I need justice for best boy, Ryuuji, especially. Overall, a very good watch, and I really hope the movie and ending of the entire series will be just as good. Definitely my dark horse show of the season.

And finally Makoto Mother accept who Makoto really is.

I admit I was quite wrong for my assessment towards this show. Expecting this show would have a compelling romance when Makoto wasn't even sure or comfortable for who he really is this whole time. Turns out his mum attitude can be rooted from her disgust of her father likes to dress up as girl. Though it's clear now, I still want more story on Makoto's grandfather how or when he started to become attracted towards acting feminine. It feels a little bit abrupt on his end suddenly acting and like girly stuff. Glad his mom finally accepted Makoto for who he is. With him firmly sure with his identity, it's the time he could finally focus on the romantic relationship and his future life which we would likely get from the movie next year. Last few episodes aren't as good as the earlier episodes but somehow this show managed to conclude his arc neatly.

Makoto's father is the MVP. I think it's a solid show. Maybe they should tone down the "liking cute things" a bit, there are many ways to show those "cute stuff". It doesn't have to be about cats and all those stuff.

But I like the show overall.

I'M SO HAPPY EVERYTHING WENT WELL!

Makoto's dad showing the mom Makoto's school trip photos made me tear up. I thought the mother would have a deep trauma with regards to crossdressing, nope, she just found it disgusting, but there could be more to it than meets the eye. Though to be fair, the grandfather didn't really open up about themself either, they just took Makoto's Mom's stuff and goes out at nights doing who knows what. But with Makoto, I did like that the mom wasn't just a complete bigot, she was just understandably worried about Makoto and the struggles he was going to face and I am glad she's starting to become supportive.

Goddamn, Makoto's Mom with short hair looked exactly like him lmao, I had to double take during those scenes.

I am so sorry for doubting you Saki's mom. You've been gone for a long time, but fuck it, you're here now and that's what matters, especially for Saki.

We can all agree that the best character in this show is Makoto's dad, absolute gigachad.

I loved the message of the show about being happy. The last scenes of the episode were peak.

I will definitely be there for the movie, which I assume will adapt the rest of the series from what I've heard.

This show is definitely one of the biggest surprises for me this season, along with Gimai Seikatsu, such good introspective shows.

A great finale, where Makoto decided everything for himself. In general, the series is happy that there is not one character that annoys you and everyone has problems, which during all 12 episodes are solved. Special respect that they decided to adapt the remaining volumes Senpai wa Otokonoko into a movie.

If you're looking for actually positive queer rep, watch Stars Align, Bloom Into You, and Skip and Loafer!!

I loved the start of this series and how it tackled drama, but by the end, it felt like it just gave the queer community a backhanded compliment. It tried its best to end positively when all the implications were off.

Makoto's mom doesn't accept him for who he is. Even if his dad is exactly the kind of support a parent should show a kid questioning their identity, he never was able to fully protect Makoto from his mother's own "trauma" - which, by the way, the entire backstory there felt odd and out of place. Maybe they rushed through content that drew it out more in the webtoon? (I haven't read it)

I don't mind that no romance was solidified (I see Aoi as aro, so I'd be disappointed if they threw her into a sudden relationship with Makoto when she doesn't seem to want that). I would have loved to have seen the aro/ace spectrum mentioned, but alas... (shoutout to Bloom Into You for showcasing aspec characters in a more effective and supportive way!)

I hope the upcoming movie allows Ryuji a chance to accept himself since his internalized homophobia was never touched upon again and it was SUPER uncomfortable to watch him constantly invalidate his feelings and receive hardly any closure or actual support from Makoto. Even if their relationship didn't work out, Makoto could have reassured Ryuji that he wasn't "gross."

I had really high hopes for this series, only for it to fall short with its lack of positive queer representation. I'll stick with series like Stars Align, Bloom Into You, and Skip and Loafer - they did it right!
☆ Watch Stars Align for soft tennis with a side of (canon!) queer rep, found family, and angst! ☆

i really enjoyed this anime. I'm definitely gonna read what happens afterwards in the manga if I can get my hands on it. I think makoto's mom is a bad person and I just hate the overall conservatism in Japan. so I'm really happy a Japanese anime is bringing awareness about crossdressing and queerness. I really had a different expectation of this anime and initially it seemed like an upbeat anime but it's actually a really serious anime. Saki is still my favorite and I love her. now let's see how this story ends! I'm gonna read the manga!

Makoto's grandpa was a vibe he was hella chill and nice. To firstly talk about Makoto's mum honestly there's a massive amount of people out there which wouldn't except crossdressing and given her past I'm not surprised it was hard for her to accept. I'm really glad though she's beginning to accept him for who he is. Saki's mum is way worse considering she literally bailed on her when she was young and we still don't know why, The fact she's back and is seemingly trying to mend her ways is a start though.

Overall this has been a very good show, the main trio was great and there were a few good side characters. Never in a million years did I expect a movie coming though very excited for it.

Makoto's mother behavior in past and now its not an excuse to treat her own son like that. Since the flashback appeared in finale on to why his mother acted like that, it shows clearly before she discovered her father was already cross-dressing, she had some disgust towards such people who like to be different that herself. Lack of education in that matter and not hearing/ rejecting her father explanation, she decided to push away both close people in her life. I don't think Makoto or his grandfather did something wrong, his mother should have proper talk back then, and try to understand why, her own father was like that and move on. Her anxiety and trauma is caused not by her son or her father but her self, instead of facing this problem, she ran away. Unfortunately this problem is not enough talked about, I'm not only talking about anime where the problem with cross-dressing is shown in modern society, since long we know cross-dressing was a thing and even in ancient theaters where woman was not allowed to play in it, a man would be dressed as woman to portray her, but lack of communication between people or lack of understanding, leads to the sad situation, Makoto is not sick person, he is just fine, his mother does not want to see that... I'm saying this because this whole time in that anime, Makoto's mother is portrayed as villain with no explanation till last episode and even in the last episode, its not an excuse for her behavior and situation she is in it, I can't sympathize with her in any way.

wait that was all it was that had Makoto's mom acting all PTSD is just being weirded out by her dad taking stuff she threw out using it and copying her style and just being different? I mean I kinda get it but she should have just got over it years ago not make it some weird drama toward him since he didn't do anything to her and basically nothing happened to her except some awkward moments. She could have at least been bullied over it or seen him get beat up or something but no…unless some things were left out. It only makes her come off as always have been bigoted and emotionally unstable with no clear cause for the later.

Makoto's grandpa seems kinda cool although pretty much in need of a thesaurus being aloof a bit or something but he does give off those chill vibes where he kinda is just content in what seems to be a quiet life.

At least it is nice to see Makoto's mom isn't all bad since she is willing to try and back off some and able to spend time with him not entirely shunning him when getting all into cute stuff at the mall.

But could someone please get Makoto a hobby other than just buying cute things to stare at Lol

Was it just me or did Makoto's dad when younger look like Ryuji ?

As for Ryuji saying mother Aoi looks like Makoto I wonder how far that will go to…

This show turned out pretty enjoyable...and a bit traumatizing feeling all the pain from everyone

Im gentuinely crying with this last episode. As someone who has gone through a similar situation to Makoto, i resonate so much with the want to still have my important relationships stay in tack while also being who I am. I'm also so glad that this ended on a note like this rather than taking the romance spin and having Makoto still be on bad terms with his mom like some other series of this variety do. This series officially gets a 10/10 for me

It's a good ending, and it's great that there's no drama.

I know Makoto's mom was painted as a villain earlier, but given what we know now, I can't hate Makoto's mom. She had it rough. People back were not yet open-minded enough.

Its crazy I honestly started to get real bored with this show a couple of episodes ago. I felt like I was forcing myself to watch it just cause I only had a couple episodes left but by the end esp when makoto's dad was showing his mom the videos of him having fun on that trip I started to tear up I don't know why.

Never watched as much anime as I wanted to

I'm glad I came back to this show after bailing when Makoto's mother's transphobia hit too hard.

I think most of my thoughts have already been said by people above, so I'll just add I'm a little sad we didn't get to see their souvenirs. Presumably to save the animation budget, but I'd have been fine with still images, or even a still 3-way split screen showing them all. Ah well.

Hopefully the movie will answer what's going on with Saki and her family, for those of us not reading the manga...

Dayum, makoto's grandpa got such fabulous hair! Hope I can have hair as luscious as that when I'm old lmao

I'm SO HAPPY!!!! I'm glad it ended on a good note.

This show is great. It was a good storytelling of the experiences experienced by transgenders, crossdressers, and other LGBT experiences alike. The writing and characterization overall are good, the art style cute and simple(love the cute little chibis all throughout the show 🥺), overall good. 8.5/10 no complaints, all well written characters, even if I hate some of them(like makoto's mother), doesn't make them not well written. It just means the author can make well written characters who are supposed to be bad people, and even then, makoto's mother is trying to change(barely), so I can't be that mad at a fictional woman who just doesn't know any better lol.

Can't wait to watch the movie! It'll be a long time till I can probably watch it though, since I doubt Indonesian movie theatres would air an lgbt positive anime movie like this since our country's majority is still mainly filled with traditionalists lol, but I'll be looking forward to it anyway!

I’ll miss it 😢
@Marinate1016 Makoto isn't nonbinary, lol. He's made it quite clear he IS a BOY that likes girlie stuff.

Makoto is non binary, they make it clear that they are during the basketball club episode and now. They don’t identify with either gender.

@Marinate1016 He does, he said it quite literally, he is a boy that likes cute things. Stop trying to force your agenda.
