Wow, a kiss...?! 😱🫣

Since Atri is not a real person, age doesn't matter.
Since this story is fictional, safe... (or that's what you thought I say?) 😐
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

Hmm idk how to feel about this anime. It’s really good and the kind of thing I’d watch but couldn’t atri be a little taller with a slightly more mature voice? I don’t know if romance is actually necessary in this case. I would score this so much higher if she looked the same as Minamo’s age. Even if she was just a little younger like by 1-2 years it wouldn’t be awkward but her personality too??? I think the mc should’ve been 15 or 14 in this plot and look it so that it would sit well

A wholesome date between Natsuki and Atri, but something is creeping among the shadows. They really kissed in the water again at the end too lol, guess Natsuki fell for Atri again?

Never ending plan to watch list...

I like how people feel conflicted about what's going on, it shows that this anime is doing a well sufficient job.

However, the anime style of storytelling is a bit weird as many pointed out...I have to agree, on this topic.

Yes, she technically not human(or maybe she is, who knows), but they shouldn't have made her look so loli like, because people will make assumptions. Besides.. you telling me that they make thousands of lolibots that has a 1:1 human mind...and then sell it... Yeah.

They should've make she regain her memories and develop whatever choice for romance, from there.

I'm hoping that we gonna get more philosophical conflicts about she being or not human, because that's was the main selling point.

I want to know if she has a human mind, if that mind is pure A.I, modelled from another human.. That would be neat to see.

That aside, this anime is really good! Didn't expect to be enjoying it so much. Next episode is going to be tragic, we can tell, right? I'm feeling Plastic Memories vibes.

I'm going to make assumptions from there on.

Sharing their first kiss, and acknowledging their love for each other as they sink to the bottom of the sea, what nice bittersweet way to end the series.

This seems an impossible romance. I'll just see where it goes.

EP 7

Its ep 7
Last time ended on cliffhang

Meanwhile
Atri
Kinda curious though, since like, how much does atri know or not know

Ok uh so. yeah. abrupt ending this time
Ep 7 means we're about halfway through, though there's still 6 more eps to go
Really weird ep this time, the ep is basically entirely atri, and yet something feels like it missing
And then they trolled us with the cliffhang last time, i dunno what to say
It seems like the conspiracy thing is probably gonna show up next ep or ep 9 and then i dunno
Like the pacing has felt really weird

I feel kinda sad though, like, everyone else has been kinda shafted already, and this ep definitely didnt change that. Atri got a lot of screentime, though it felt kinda hmm..

I do not believe Atri lost completely her memories, she just needs time to remember what happened. By the way, animation is so good, I was impressed by the sceneries😍

So Natsuki kissed Atri finally. That proves he likes her so much, even though she’s a robot. They care about each other, but they’re too shy. Can’t wait to see how the things will evolve beyond that.

@Nachtwandler_21 Even though I don't mind the overall story or the animation itself, I do hate all any paedo supporting moments in ANY anime. So, yes, this one is no exception.

He's 17 himself, not 60. Talk about blowing even the smallest age gaps out of proportion.

Maybe people should only fall in love with or be attracted to those born in the same week of the same month and of exactly the same height down to the centimeter, same hair color, eye color, family income, equal performance on a vision test, and IQ too. As long as we're making everything so extreme and clinical as to actually imagine that a paltry, measly three year gap would be some blasphemous insurmountable thing.

And even the portion of my statement above is referring to the situation of biological humans. In this case it's even less relevant or sensible considering the physical appearance doesn't even equal age (she would look the same the day she was created and 1,000 years from now if not altered) so it's literally just a purely superficial consideration.

@WatchTillTandava the younger people are the bigger age gaps become, a 3-year age gap between a 30 and a 33-year-old is nothing, but for teens it's different because a lot of change happens very quickly. Atri looks and acts very childish, so yeah I do think it's weird. I'm sorry but being attracted to an 8th grader when you're finishing high school is weird. sue me.

Man, the plot’s all over the place. There’s 0 progression on Atri’s memory or her purpose, which I thought was going to be the overarching story. But then that’s forgotten, and we just moved to the school trying to get electricity, which they succeeded. Now we’ve pivoted into a love story all of a sudden?

And yeah, the romance is weird. Not just because she’s a robot with AI, and not even because she looks like a 14 year old child, but because she has the emotional maturity of one too. She didn’t even know what love was at the beginning of this episode…

It’s too bad, because the animation is great. I don’t know what the VA is like, but if it somehow was the source for this mess of a story, it can’t be very good.
@stevejawbs the adaptation isn't all that faithful to the original. Most of the events are either altered, out of order, missing context, not included at all, or lots of new content is added in instead.

@Vavou

I wasn't sure if you mean't this like "who cares it is just a robot".

but I checked your rating of ATRI and see you dropped it and gave it a 1/10 after this episode haha.

....so I guess you feel the same as I do that this is super weird. Not sure if I have fully dropped the show, but I have not watched another episode since this one. Even if the romance wasn't creepy (which it is)....it didn't seem at all interesting either. The world is the MC of this show.

@WatchTillTandava I get your point and his point and this @YordaTrico person's point.

It's easy to understand why people would find it disturbing.

Atri, for instance, looking and acting like a 14yo (maybe even younger, mentally lol) is the obvious reason. I assume people (with or without realizing this) still consider Atri to be a kid. Like an actual 14yo human child, even though she isn't.
Just like how a 1000yo loli who acts like a child can hardly be accepted by many as being an actual 1000yo MATURE person even though show forces us to believe that.
There are people who (rightfully, usually) will say this is just author "legalizing" pedophilic behavior, and then there are people who will say "it's fiction bro," to sort of escape from actually addressing the topic or justify themselves.

What I came to realize though is that there CAN be cases when one side is always right and another is wrong. There are dumb shows with 1000yo lolis with a mental age of a 10yo (show still can be funny if it's a comedy and not sexualizing), then there are more serious shows where age gap isn't treated as some fatish or self-insert by author (like Mushoku Tensei lol). I'd say Atri leans more towards serious ones in this case.

Atri will always look like 14 yo, even when Natsuki becomes a 90yo geezer for instance. Now arguing about whether a human should love a robot or not to begin with, is an entirely different topic, but purely visually the gap will only increase and get more "disturbing" with time. So, love is a taboo by default? So, it can be OK only if the robot model "ages" alongside human? It's ok if robot-human love each other when they're both 18 18-looking, but wrong when human ages and becomes 25+ while the SAME 18yo-looking robot remains physically the same? My point is, our modern real-life POV can NOT always be applied to fiction.

I think we should remember the context and how the show is presented to us, OBVIOUSLY. There are shameless shows like Mushoku Tensei (you guessed it, I hated that show) where pedophilia is normalized, there are shows which sexualize children/children looking characters through fanservice etc; and then there are shows like Atri where sexualization of minors doesn't exist.

My point is, Atri is one of the few rare cases where people should stop with virtue signaling. If we immerse ourselves into this story where human-like robots exists and you have a robot who's capable of feelings, I think it makes sense to fall in love even if the robot is physically made to resemble a teen. Again, I get it, it can be disturbing to watch a grown-ass man getting all lovey-dovey with a 14yo-looking robot (who can actually be 100+year old), but think about it. It's a human and a robot relationship. Right now our brains may not entirely be ok with it since it's alien to us as of yet (meaning, having human-like robots around).

Still can't agree how it can be ok?

Again, I can agree how it WILL look disturbing to vast majority of humans (especially if they have no info on the couple and can likely assume the human has to be a pedo if his partner looks like a child), but relationship-wise, it can be perfectly normal and sweet and wholesome.

I think we should differentiate which shows are "pedo-bait" and which are NOT. I mean, with first episode I PERSONALLY also had a doubt this was going to be "one of those shows" (since, to be honest there are many such shows), but coming this far I think it shouldn't be an issue to agree that this is not "one of those shows". Stop plaguing your minds with thoughts about "ulterior motives of the author", or whether author endorses pedos with this or not, when it comes to ATRI at least. Unlike shows like Mushoku Tensei, dragon maid etc there really is no need for mental gymnastics to agree on this show being safe.

My one problem with this episode though would be Atri's feelings and their sincerity.

Natsuki has a whole history, being saved by Atri when he was a kid, long admiration for that X person who turned out to be Atri, her being very human-like when it comes to emotions etc. When it comes to Atri though, Atri barely remembers the past and her affection towards Natsuki still feels like loyalty to master, rather than romantic relationship. Her getting flustered before the kiss happened (which she initiated btw) felt kinda unnatural IMO. I think Natsuki making the first move would've made more sense here.

Learning about love from books and putting it into practice.

One can try to rationalize the situation all day. People pointing out the weird portrayal of their relationship have a point. Even if there's nothing actually wrong with it since Atri is an android, the way she looks and behaves and the way Natsuki does make their relationship lowkey an odd fit. Atri is looking like a 13-14 year old with the personality of a child. Natsuki is much more mature and educated compared to the average 17 year old. He could pass as someone in his 20s. Yes, the story clearly shoes that he isn't preying on her or anything of the sort (and I mean she's a robot), yet it's personally hard for me to not be weirded out by the depiction. This could've easily been avoided. Make Natsuki a little bit younger and less like a guardian figure. Atri a bit older looking or behave more mature. The design choices here are deliberate.

But what do I know about Japanese culture.

I wouldn't cancel this series or anything and I not saying there's something wrong with the people who don't have an issue with it. It's just hard to ignore all the aforementioned stuff even when I'm aware that she isn't human.

Atri's development is becoming very apparent here. She certainly seems more cognizant with regards to intimate expressions and feelings now, as if reading the atmosphere of the scenario.
