The Opening Scenes of the stage drama were amazing. Narushima went from being a loser actor to being an experienced actor. this episode mainly focused on him. Aqua opening his eyes & the stage acting of Narushima was amazing ✨🔥. Abiko Sensei too got excited 🔥. Bro finally faced the problems head on🔥. Yoriko Sensei Cried Man!! She's do happy that he didn't ruin this time 😂. Now it's time for our Aqua to shine on the stage. THE ENDING ARE ALWAYS EXCITING & The quality of animation is so damm good.🔥

With all the setups done and over with, let the Tokyo Blade Stage Play... begin!

Still find it weird that they used this Tokyo Blade introduction in the first episode, when it makes WAY more sense to use it this episode, which they still did, in context with the stage play finally beginning. I don't care too much, the entire segment is fire, no complaining here. But yeah, nice to see Doga Koba's locked in again with the animation and direction.

What I did love about this arc anywho, was the fact that Aka gave almost every underappreciated character in the spotlight and gave them a chance to shine in the stage play. For this episode at least, it's Melt. I could honestly care less for his character ngl, but even still, I remember loving this chapter, and now this episode. Also, is no one going to mention that Melt was taken advantage of by a high schooler when he was just in middle school? Fucking creeps man. Whatever though, that ENTIRE scene where Melt's eyes awaken or whatever you call it, FUCKING KINO.

You did very, very, VERY well Melt my boy. SASUGA MELT.

The 2.5D Stage Play is officially here and this is where I was expecting Doga Kobo to go off and not hold back and boy did they follow through with those expectations and go beyond at certain times. The structure of Melt's arc with the flashbacks involved were a bit formulaic with the approach of mixing them and the current events continuously every minute but hey, the anime's portrayal of him putting his all in the big moment and redeeming himself with his effort and passion shown on full display this time around looks amazing visually, with hype music to boot. Also liked the first few minutes in showcasing how the stage play looks from far away and presenting more of how it works, which is what I wanted to see a bit more of in those earlier few episodes, but better late than never. I don't particularly care for Melt's actual character but the anime did a good job in making the most out of his little arc before Aqua and Akane even got to show off their own material and performances. The structure is a bit cliche and formulaic but the production definitely helped elevate the source for me in this instance, and seeing characters like Yoriko get emotional after seeing how poor of a job Melt did with her own work shows growth from other perspectives too.

Y'all have no idea how excited manga readers are right now.

Doga Kobo really went above and beyond by adding new, anime original scenes to the Tokyo Blade intro. That scene where Kana Arima (Tsurugi) and Taiki Himekawa (Blade) are chatting while they walk is brand new.
It's more than just an anime adaptation, it's a true labor of love. Their dedication to adapting Oshi no Ko is way beyond.

This arc is beautifully well-done. Melt's character development was truly outstanding, and it fills me with joy to see him genuinely striving to improve.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the rivalry between Kana and Akane, and that one final scene, it's going to be so powerful.
Doga Kobo cooked. Thanks for the meal.

No Akane this week I sleep.. nah honestly this might be the best oshi no ko has ever looked. Absolutely gorgeous episode with great production all around. The people who questioned Oshi no Ko production values this season have to feel real dumb now lol. They went above and beyond with this stage play truly bringing it to life and giving so much love to Melt’s character.

I love how the episode opens up with the audience perspective of the play before slowly transitioning onto the stage for Kana’s character’s introduction scene. The animation during that was so good and to her credit shows how brilliant Kana’s acting is. She really got lost in that role.

But the big focus of this episode was on Melt, a side character who easily became a fan favourite after this episode. In just under 20 minutes we got such a good character arc for him. His hopes, fears, insecurities and past all perfectly interwoven into the play and connecting back to his character. While some were in-universe people had issues with his casting and accuse him of just getting parts because of his looks, he showed that he was the PERFECT man for the role.

Aqua’s advice about using the audience underestimating you to your advantage was so good. Melt blew everyone away, including Abiko sensei herself and we all know how hard she is to please. It really helps when you portray a character you can find aspects of yourself in. That insecurity, feeling of worthlessness, the feeling that he didn’t belong etc. he masterfully channeled that into the performance of a lifetime and I can guarantee people won’t be sleeping on him again.

The ending scene was utterly gorgeous. Doga Kobo you’ve outdone yourselves this week take a bow.

Another episode where the anime adaptation is much much better. I'm really getting the emotion from Melt's POV story now since I didn't acquire it when reading the manga.

It's nice to finally see more elevation of the source material through the audiovisuals, which was a bit lacking when you think about Season 1 and how much the staff went above and beyond for that. It played out like I would expect, with Melt's growth, at the very least, and honestly, he already feels more interesting than Aqua.

Yep was looking forward to the play and Doga Kobo delivered. Superb animation/directing/visuals thoughout the episode and the focus being Melt's redemption arc. To put it simply Yoriko sensei's reaction says it all. Really looking forward to rest of the play.

Btw forgot to mention but the music has been so good for the play. Really like it a lot.

Finally, the beginning of what we've all been waiting for. Honestly, never thought I'd look forward to a fictional play so much ever.

Wasn't expecting the episode to start from the audience's perspective. That was pretty cool.

An episode focusing on Melt? Glad this happened right after the last episode. Melt killed his role. To think the guy I didn't think too much of back in Season 1 to have this much development in Season 2... Proud of him.

And boy, the animators cooked. I'm not completely sure what the scene near the end was supposed to be but it looked absolutely mental.

If this was just the first episode of this play, I can't wait to see what they have in store next. Freaking amazing.

While the episode overall was well done I thought spending the entire time on the play itself and on the purple haired guy, Melt, was a bit too excessive as we got virtually nothing on Aqua, Akane, and other main characters. On a side note, the 2.5D environment does look incredible.

This part of anime is easily my favorite chapter in the manga, and the studio overkills it.
The animation, the pacing, the presentation are all perfect.

Melt is my favourite character back in manga (despite lack of screen time after this chapter), and the studio more than does him justice.
They even add some anime original scenes that go into more artistic /creative direction to showcase his growth more.

Melt grew on me as a character after this part in the manga so I’m glad the anime not only did it justice, but knocked it out of the park. He’s always been insecure as an actor especially when he’s around the likes of Aqua, Kana, and Akane, but that was some great advice he received from Aqua: why try getting better all around without a lot of time to do so when you can focus on improving one thing to blow away the audience. It’s like that quote, “I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.”

I’m glad Kamoshida gave Melt his flowers, as well as Abiko. The most significant reaction though was that of Kichijoji, clearly she still harbors resentment toward him for fucking up Sweet Today, so to see her moved to tears really shows how much the guy has improved since then, even if he still has some work to do. I was hyped to see how they’d bring the play to life and this didn’t disappoint. That final montage with Melt before the end of his characters fight was breathtaking. What a great start to the play and I can’t wait for the rest.

Oh the horror, god forbid we get some character development. Also, MAL users continue to unsurprisingly show that they have no idea what “filler” actually means lol. Classic.
People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait.

MAL is literally just anime Twitter as its own website lol.

I mean usually an anime S2 become way less popular than S1
They need something to hype the audience from get go, thus they just put the Tokyo blade intro at the very beginning .
For any anime, episode 1 is really important in determining whether they keep or lose an audience , so they just throw some treats asap.

Incredible episode. The animation, the emotions, the action, I loved every moment of it. Melt character development and background was very good and I got chills. I think the idea of putting the viewer at the place of the spectators in the beginning and making him watch the first act of the show was interesting. The end was epic.

@Yuyuichi Yeah , when a studio put passion into an anime project, you can truly see it/ feel it.
Sadly not all of them get the same degree of attention/ exposure from general public, despite the effort studio put in.

Contrary, some soul-less franchise milking anime adaptation got all the attention out there w.o much effort put into it. (for example, Fairy Tail Hundred Year Quest. Shit plot + shit source+ mediocre adaptation)

Not my favorite episode, because it’s very Shonen-coded. (can’t wait to get back to my long-ass dialogs and entertainment industry expositions lol) But it’s also very necessary. After preparing us for Melt’s growth for so long, of course at some point you need to show the results of this.

The animation and voice acting is so good. They really know how to make you feel like this part is ok acting, and this part is godly acting. In manga form, they can just say it and we trust the words on the page "I guess he wasn’t good here", but in the anime they SHOW it and they show it beautifully. Also, of course it was Aqua who gave him the right advice. If you dig a little bit behind any character development or any improvement or anything that happens in this show, it’s always Aqua. Just one more little mind trick, make a big surprise before the act you trained the most for to make sure they are fully attentive during this one minute.

I’m just scared of one thing. We’re about at half of the season and starting from now, the more time we spend on this arc the less episodes are left for the other arc. And I really really want the other arc to be fully adapted and with as much efforts as for this first arc...

@betaweeb I expect next episode to do even better than this cuz it highlights 3 main casts at once.
They would probably go even more insane than this episode since it highlights Aqua/ Akane and Arima at the same time.

I know he's not a big character in terms of the main story, but I'd say it's important to the story overall. His struggles highlight just how much work all the characters have to put into acting. Not just the main characters, but everyone who's acting. It also contributes to the arc's themes of working hard to overcome your weaknesses and achieve personal growth.

Also I personally like him. He's unimportant to the main story, but I really liked his arc anyway.

Narushima might have come off as a clown in the last season from with bad acting in comaprison to the rest of the cast but now we can really see how he felt about it. He really did put a lot of effort into improving but seomtimes there's just no way to compete with true talent. Well, not the whole way through at the very least, as Aqua said there are ways to use low expectations to your advantage and to truly shine when the spotlight is on you and boy did that deliver in the show.

That whole animation transforming sequence akin to many AMVs from back in the day mixing different styles with the whole range of the rainbow at their disposal is what conveys in a way his growth. The true bloom of his otherwise background character which to the surprise of everyone in the crowd including their own authors shined brighter than the veterans. Truly amazing...

So let's see what Aqua now has up in store for the next act.

Absolute PEAK Episode!!

I was literally holding my breath in the Act 2 of the stage play.

This episode is fully focused on Narushima's development, the episode's title "Growth" literally means his growth from a no-talented actor to a hold-your-breath actor.
Yoriko-sensei's tears are the proof that he is not a no-talent actor.

His comeback from this scene was simply amazing.
