I liked this episode. It built up to Ed lying there with the bar in him perfectly. After that, though, it all just resolved far too quickly, which worries me a little. This was a really important lesson for Ed to learn, and I really don't feel like he learned anything. Once again, I feel like Alchemy is a big cushion on character development.

I didn't like that Al was being "drawn" to the gate in the previous episode, but it worked here because I felt like they were drawing on the connection between Ed and Al. Also, with what's-her-face talking about golden beings and Ed mentioning that he should think of himself as a Philosopher's Stone, I feel like they're dropping hints on how they will be able to restore their bodies.

Good episode that was lacking in the end.

That's what I love about FMA; differently from Bleach ar Naruto it gets better instead of getting boring :D
This chapter was the second most awesome chapter in the series; the first one was chapter 40 :D

More inconsistent characterisation with Kimbley laughing at Al's hesitation before beginning on his own monologue.

Ed pulling out the metal bar, that was the best scene I've seen. I'm going to rewatch it again! Too bad he's not gonna appear a lot after this.

I remember waiting what felt like ages to find out what would happen next. The anime viewers have it lucky. :|

Lucky? I say cliffhangers enhance the reading value x) It's us manga readers who were lucky, ehehe.
Great one, I really had chills when Lion King was pulling out that pole out of Ed's side.

I'm really starting to hate Kimblee... Ugh, what a bastard.

Really? I like him more and more. I don't know, I guess it's just nice to see someone merciless, who actually has skills, intelligence and is cunning. Who, in short, makes a villain you don't want to die too soon; because they're simply entertaining and pose a challenge for the protagonist.

Just realized that Yoki's VA is Franky from One Piece. Lol. Guess I'm just that slow. And I don't really get why they ended it the way they did instead of making an OMFG cliffhanger. Last couple ep they even changed the planning and execution part of the "scar abducts Winry" plan to make a cliffhanger that wasn't even in the manga. And now they miss this one, which was in the manga... Don't get it. Other than that, great to see everything animated and with sound^^.

OMFG this was so epic *-*
I remember this in the manga... but OMG *__*
Ed is such a man <333 god *^* I'm speechless...
They could have done an AWESOME cliffhanger, but as said before, we wouldn't have one of the most epic scenes of FMA ever.
I think I stopped breathing for a moment when the lion quimera was pulling off the metal thinguie out of Ed's stomach... Paku Romi is an awesome seiyuu, Ed wouldn't be as half as badass as he is without her voice <3 The animated scene gave me much more impact than the manga: this was a pure win for the producers *_*b

Al's mini cliffhanger was also really, really good!

Uhul, next episode ;3

Gosh.
This episode.. too awesome ! I can't describe it anymore.
I'm a fan to the one who dubbing ed's voice. Her voice sound alive and real. With the add of tragic music. Gah. to awesome. XD

The one who got inside al's body is funny. 'mate yo nii san' in his style. it rocks. =3

This has added to a string of great episodes coming from this series. I'm glad I stopped reading the manga before I got to this point. And I'm enjoying the intensity and surprises.

P.S. God I wish someone would kill Kimblee already! I have always hated that guy.

It seems better this way, because the suspense happens so fast, you don't have any time to think about it much, but just OMG ED!!!!

Whereas if the episode ending on Ed dying, then of course, you'll have a week's time to think about it and realise that Ed will never ever die, and the impact is reduced. Worst is, they'll probably have to do a recap of the accident on the next episode, which just feels wrong. Following which Ed will not have much appearance in the show for a while, a bit jarring eh? As it is, the scene flows perfectly, love it!

One of the better episodes of late. =)

Couldn't agree more.

But what exactly Philosopher stone anyway? From what we have known so far it is a stone you can gain something without have to pay for the price which it opposite to the Alchemy theory.

It seems like its really just a reservoir of energy that allows you to circumvent equivalent exchange. Human lives are basically untapped potential, allowing users to defy the laws of nature when harnessed correctly. As Ed noticed, sometimes its a jagged crystal, the more powerful version is the perfectly round stone that Kimblee has, and the most powerful version is Hoenheim, where the stone is his blood and the entire makeup of his body.

If we take that into account and the ones that Homunculi has it. It does seem like they are not perfect and they has a limited of energy that they can stock in it. As you think the energy is what they use to pay for the price while Ed used his life energy as the price in this episode.

Exactly it's just like what the little Xing girl began to say however many episodes ago about everything being connected, and how the alchemic infrastructure of Amnestris was run on something totally different from that---Father/Homonculus, if I read into that the right way. Everything is going back to Xerxes and the golden beings.

Yep. Father brought Alchemy to Amestris, and Hoehenhiem brought Alkhestry (or "Eastern alchemy", depending on the translation) to Xing.

I love it how it keeps getting better and better with each new episode. Never feels stale.

I also dig the new opening and the ending is not bad either. FMA:B has got a great thing going. I'm out of town all week. The only thing that I look forward to while coming home at weekends is my weekly fix of this wonderful anime.

Absolutely lmao at one of the Briggs' soldier inside Ed's make-shift Al.

This episode was pretty damn good. I really want Ed to stick it to Kimblee. Poor bastard though. D:

I still really don't like the American-ized "Full Metal Alchemist" bit for the start and end of the ads. It just really peeves me.

The bit with the explanation about Golden Beings and whatnot was pretty interesting. Loved Winry and the two Chimera's faces when they were talking. :B

Seems like Kimbley can't do shit without his philosopher's stones... He basically lost both fights, first against Scar and now against Ed. But then he pulled out the philosopher's stone so it appeared like he beat Ed.

Wow I just love how all of a sudden one by one the enemies are starting to become one of their allies, lol it's so weird to see them work together like that. I'm not used to it. :(

Anyways, I was freaking out when I watching the chimeras pull the metal bar out of Ed. I was like "AAAAH THAT'S GOTTA HURT A LOT." I hope that Ed survives this. I also hope that those 2 chimera will give the piece of the stone to Ed.

So Hohenheim is the legendary sage of the west huh? and that other thing who copied his form is the sage of the east? Well that's just my conclusion.

Imo there isn't any point in having a cliffhanger in that scenerio. I mean it's a given ED isn't going to die and even if he did he'd come back. So a cliffhanger would only give an illusion of suspense in which you fool yourself into wondering what's going to happen. When really, at the back of your head, you know ED will be ok. Really enjoying this anime :D I was wondering if they could manifest a philosopher's stone using animal souls o__o
