This is starting to feel too melancholic. I prefer the dynamic between Fern and Stark more.

Not sure if the mini-hiatus was planned but, good timing, since I got to complete all of last season’s anime that was airing and now only have to worry about the current season! In addition, the rating for this anime rly needs to drop to 7.8 or sth, it’s ridiculous how stubborn and poor taste y’all can be in recognizing your own faults and what is actually deserving of a high score… Also, on a semi-related note, hope things are okay or getting better in Japan, that earthquake news was seismic and I’m hoping the production staff are safe from harm ❤️

Sweet wholesomeness every week. Fern and Stark seem to be warming up to each other more as well, albeit slowly, gradually, leisurely -- fitting the feel of this story. Reminding us how nice it is when we live life unrushed. Frieren has multiple kinds of smug smiles, and it was nice to see her real smile so much during the time she spent with her old warrior friend. Interesting question raised about the idea of forgetting the faces and details of those who are important to you as you grow older. Is it okay to live for a purpose or value even after you've forgotten the details? Perhaps relatedly, why did Frieren stop herself from telling him that the Demon King was already defeated?

Interesting theme of "being remembered" in this episode as well. The old dwarf warrior seemed to be forgetting his wife, yet Frieren said she would remember him, and he appreciated it, after previously saying his memories of his wife are his own. Frieren also earlier agreed to carry on the memory of Himmel's party, which she has done. Gorilla Warrior gave himself that name so that he would be remembered, in contrast with the forgotten hero statue, and Heiter encouraged him in this, despite saying that all heroes are forgotten in time.

Was nice for Frieren to be able to reminisce with someone who has lived a long life just like her, and it couldn't have happened at a better time now that person seems to be forgetting their own memories, another memory for Frieren to carry with her.
Sein also seems to be dealing with something from his past as he searches for his friend.
Didn't think we would see any more of Kraft, but to learn that he was a hero in the past was interesting.

Gorilla Warrior and Goatee Priest? Yeah, those names are certainly memorable, lol.

What will Sein do, now that the direction he wants to head in is the opposite of where the others are going?

It was nice to see Frieren express some genuine emotion this episode as opposed to her typical apathetic demeanor.. even if it was just briefly and with a character we're probably never going to see again

Also the more flashbacks we get of Himmel and Frieren, the more I want to reach through and smack this girl in the head for being so dense for so many years

This whole episode felt like a glorified, boring World of Warcraft side quest. The Kraft thing was the only relevant element on this episode, I hope we get more from him, as he has only appeared a single time and his only scene wasn't anything to highlight; everything else was just dense filler and stuff we already know or deduce from the anime's core themes.

The journey north continues. Frieren meets an old friend, Old Man Vol who is a formidable dwarf warrior who is now 400 years old. He trains Stark.

Stein found some clues to his adventure buddy - Gorilla Warrior. We get to know Stein's memorable name too given by Heiter.

Part 1:

Frieren went to see her old dwarf friend. She wanted to stay for a decade, but Frieren said two weeks only. This gag was repeated. Fern is Frieren's anchor because left to her own devises, she would be spending years if not decades on a particular place.

Even for a week, Old Man Vol mentored Stark, and it gave him some improvement.

It was an emotional moment when he revealed that he had a wife who loved that village. That is why he is protecting it. It's a touching moment. Unfortunately, this is the highlight of part 1. Then we move to part 2. If this anime were done in the old days, perhaps part 1 and part 2 of each episode would have been two separate episodes.

Part 2:

They had to deal with a stubborn lady, who gave them errands. With some flashbacks, we learn of his friend Gorilla Warrior and the elf they met a few episodes ago.

Why are they not writing the names in an inscription of those heroes? Too contrived not to do that.

Ayo, Kraft is a legendary hero.

I wonder if Sein will decide to part with Frieren's party, even for a little, to search for his friend in the city he was told about.

The end of the first cour. So far it's been a blast!

I like that there are some individuals besides Eisen whom Frieren calls 'friend'. Most of her 'friends' would already be dead unless they're a dwarf, an elf or God forbid a demon. Voll the guardian angel, it's rather pitiful knowing that none of the villagers knew Voll's true reason, the passage of time is cruel and unstoppable. Even the fondest of memories could wither away. Thanks to both Frieren and Voll catching up with one another and talking about their past, Voll finally gets to dream of his wife. Nice wholesome first half.

So the Gorilla Warrior has been making his name known wherever he went off to huh? That'll make this search considerably easier, especially when he also talked about the Goatee priest. Unfortunately, the place he went to is branched off to where Fireren wanted to go for her certification. Will we see Sein Split off here?

Also, damn, that statue must be hundreds of years old. Maybe more. Kraft used to be a warrior along with a partner of his, I wonder if we'll see more of Kraft.

Two touching stories in this installment: Frieren's old friend, who has forgotten his wife's face and her voice, and Sein, who, amid the cutest flashbacks, is still in search of his dear friend.

It really shows how heart-wrenching living that long of a life can be, Old man Voll's wife was a human, The only thing the passage of time left him was a single promise, not even her face, her voice, the look in her eyes. The reason Himmel didn't confess his love must be this, He didn't want to make frieren experience the pain of slowly losing the memories of the ones she loved. Instead, he built statues of himself in many towns, to remind frieren of how the hero's party looked and that they were real not just another fairytale, far into the future.
