Among people who know me I'm the one who can eat anything, no matter how strange it is, and find it very tasty. I guess I've found my kind of show.

Well this one definitely feels like it has some slapstick comedy along with adventure.
The Opening will grow on me and it suits this kind of anime I think. The manga has a high enough rating, Hopefully this is a good adaptation.

Not a bad first episode. Art is great as well. But what the hell is with that ultimate goal of saving his sister, but at some point. Being digested is not a binary state where at one point you are okay and the very next second you are poop. Also are they assuming she has oxygen in dragon's stomach, why would that be the case? Am assuming since we didn't really see her get eaten, she's not in the belly anyway and that's why the rest of the crew through plot-convenience are not rushing in.

Watch out issekai, cooking shows are taking over.

Walked into this anime blind and only watching this for the sole reason that it’s animated by TRIGGER the goat studio and the fact that this is a gourmet show and I love me my gourmet shows😩 (Food Wars, Campfire Cooking in Another World for ex.) and I was NOT disappointed🤩

First we got Laios who was spacing out thinking about food while his team was being molly whopped💀 then Marcille who is too funny with her reactions she’s too jokes at how Laios is so interested in eating monsters😭

Then we got Chilchuck who gives me Killua vibes with the way he sounds just like him and the fact he’s so chill and nonchalant and I like how he’s always siding with Marcille whenever Laios be saying he wants to eat monsters🤣

The animation and art look really nice I love the opening especially the second half of the opening the animation and the song kicks up + I noticed the person who sings it also sang the Spy x Family opening 2 which is nice I like his voice a lot🔥🔥 Other than that I’m really looking forward to the next following episodes this finna be one hell of a 24 episode ride🤩🔥

So I gave the first episode a go because the manga is pretty infamous for what it is however, can't say it looks like anything special or out of common from other fantasy shows around. However, 1 episode is never enough to judge a series and don't think it's fair to do so, so I'm asking the fans of the original work, does this show get better or more interesting? or is it just an episodic "what are we gonna cook today" type of thing? No hate ofc. Everyone is free to enjoy whatever they want, it's just a genuine question.

Gotta say tho i rolled my eyes whenever Marcille was complaining about anything and everything.

No, it's not. Well, first third or half is mostly a cooking thing, but there is a big plot just around the corner

They have done a great job so far, this is one of my favorite manga, hope Trigger gives this series the quality and effort it deserves. And hopefully the series gets more popular since the anime is now airing. THe manga is absolutely WORTH the read, as well as this anime is worth the watch. You are in for a TREAT ;)

@MeanEYE They have no reason to assume that she is alive so they work under the assumption of having to ressurect her from whatever remains they can gather from the dragon.

Ooo, I didn't expect it to be like this but it's fun in a good way. The scorpion hotpot actually looks like a lobster soup with that slime as the seaweed :'3 it looks so good! The second menu also looks yum, though not really anything out of the ordinary. Senshi is really a great chef, cooking all those monsters with a straightforward and steady manner lol.

The only thing that bothered me a bit was... Marcille. Hmm maybe her behavior is meant to be funny and cute, but it's just annoying to me. "First you say "I'm fine with anything" then hate whatever we suggest, you're that type" right.......

Senshi already thinking of making Dragon Oyakodon 😋
Ooh getting exposition of the anatomy of this world's flora and fauna. No doubt the way Senshi described how to prepare slime is based on jellyfish.

I love the focus of Dungeon Meshi. You always see fantasy anime go about their travels/adventures but rarely address the aspect of food.

Now, my boi, Laios, will solve that for the party by eating monsters. Tis the season for elves, and Marcille and her many faces quickly grew on.

I know this will be a great weekly watch.

@MeanEYE I see what you mean and them being very weird about mortal danger can throw you off but them being this way is it's own thing since revival is a thing in that world so they've sort of warped their perception about it. All I wanted to clarify is that they aren't that stupid to assume that Falin would be alive at this point. Laios even asks Marcille and Chilchuck if it would be possible to revive someone from dung so he's somewhat aware.

The lack of urgency from the people involved regarding a, from the viewers pov, urgent matter could be it's own plotpoint. All they know after they met Senshi is that they have a time limit and that they have to procure food on the way and that they failed before due to not having food and they are down some people and don't know how usefull Senshi would be in a fight yet. Rushing it or riddling themselves with anxiety over what may have happened to Falin isn't going to help their situation so they have to tackle the steps one at a time. Anyways I'm rambling sorry.

@Arkaniet this is why skipping a meal once they were out was so out of place. This is what gave me the sense of urgency. Main character literally says we don't have time for a meal let's go back to dungeon. Then they run into Senshi and all of the sudden they are sleeping and enjoying food. It's a weird way to start the show is all am saying. They could have handled her death differently. Perhaps by not showing it, adding layer of mystery or outright her corpse lying on the floor and her not teleporting with them due to some other reason, like getting aggro from the dragon or something similar. Hell, even lack of mana could be used as an excuse why she didn't teleport herself and the rest of their gear. Oh well. Am rambling as well.

By now I have started two new shows this season. Both had tentacle flowers sexually assaulting girls. Both had blond girls in a blue dress with a red bow.

Only one tried to impregnate the girl(s) with its seed and it is not the S&M one.

@MeanEYE Couple things. The MC didn't know how much time they had which is why he somewhat immediately wanted to back into the dungeon which is plausible. He knew that she was most likely dead but also knew that they needed to find her remains. Once they reach the dungeon he tries to show what he has in mind to do to get to Falin, so they take a bit of time there. And once they talk to Senshi about the deadline they know how much time they can work with and therefore know how quickly or slowly they can proceed. That being said Laios is a very strange character overall but most of them are so they all have their issues with one thing or another.
I'm also no expert on the material but some things you mention will be relevant later on and you're supposed to pick up on them being weird.

Very decent first episode. There was a lot of exposition at the beginning I didn’t 100% pay attention to, so I may not completely understand the lore, but I got the gist. Seeing Marcille’s reaction to the concept of eating monsters made me laugh a few times. Laios and Senshi’s enthusiasm for monsters is interesting, and Chilchuck is just kind of there. While this episode was interesting, I wonder how far they can take this concept. Will it be expanded on in cool and fun ways, or will it remain stagnant? I guess I have to wait for more episodes to find out! (7/10)

@breebearani so far Trigger only fucked up just 48.6% of anime they've released.
So there is a chance, albeit not too too promising.

The way to not be disappointed is to keep you expectations low.
Don't get your hopes up.
@SlayerGoury Trigger has DITFXX, GL, Kill la Kill, and edge runners. They're a great studio. The chances of this being good are pretty high. Don't count them out. You just sound like a miserable person that hyper analyzes every little thing in an anime to make themselves feel like they're a galaxy brain savant of anime knowledge. Just enjoy it, why be so miserable?

Followed the manga to it's finish. As far as adaptions go, it's pretty good. Marcille's faces are spot on and still funny in anime-form.
However, like the manga, it has a very slow start. First couple episodes will be run-of-the-mill. Kill monster(s), cook, then watch elf be funny, before interesting stuff starts occurring. As more character's get's introduced the story does start to pick up. I would say 3 episodes in is when it'll get really interesting and start showing more of the mystery behind the dungeon.
Trigger is the right studio for adapting this. Not surprising since they also animated that Dungeon Meshi promo few years back.

This is my first Trigger anime, and my first food-themed anime.
I had trouble enjoying the funny scenes because throughout the episode I was worried about his sister.
I was relieved when I found out about the revival system though.
I guess it'll take another episode for me to have a clear opinion for this anime.

@SlayerGoury ugh deleted my original comment because I forgot how miserable the MAL community is and I know that if I kept it up you would not be the only person to leave an edgy reply. Just commenting to say that I honestly think the hate for Trigger is overblown. People who think Trigger is bad have not actually watched truly bad anime before. Sure their endings can be cheesy, their characters can be a little rough around the edges, and their stories have plot holes, but I think the people at Trigger genuinely have passion for what they're creating and it comes through in their shows.

I find so many anime fans can be so ungrateful to the teams that work so hard on the shows that they consume. I believe that Trigger is a company with passion for what they're making, and I'm just excited to see how they adapt one of my favorite mangas. If a different, less-impassioned studio was adapting Dungeon Meshi, I would probably just avoid it.

I also honestly don't understand the ideology of keeping expectations low for shows. No wonder you don't like many Trigger anime, you're going into their shows with a negative attitude looking to nitpick and anything that you don't like just confirms your bias and makes you dislike it more. I just can't see how I would enjoy anime watching it that way.

That's about it. Just so tired of the negative, ungrateful attitude on this website. Have a nice day.
@breebearani

Love a bit of Trigger love. Not all their anime are great, but they vary widely and usually have unique flavour or edge.

…didn’t foresee them foraying into the cooking genre though. Keeping my hopes up they pull this one off!

Great episode, started right into the action, animation on point as exspected from Trigger, very intersesting worldbuilding and fun characters. The premise of of using your enviroment for ingredients to survive is really creative and the cooking sequences are great. Cant wait for future episodes.

It's nice having a hobbit as a main character (well, technically a halfling, but really same difference, kind of like orcs and goblins). I've definitely seen them in fantasy anime series before, like Isekai Shokudou, but generally, like in that show, as side/supporting characters or recurring minor characters of larger ensemble casts rather than the central focus.

I can definitely see a character like the elf start to annoy me fairly quickly though, as characters who yell over every little thing or are annoyed, grossed out by, afraid of, etc. everything tend to do.

Absolutely love the manga, and excited to see it animated. First ep wasn't bad, but something felt off about the humor, like they kept missing every beat for me. I think it was a combination of faster pacing and so-so voice acting, where they were kind of rushing through every joke. But I'm guessing they're probably trying to get through the slow beginning of the story quickly to make sure they get to the more action-y scenes later on. Hopefully they don't cut too much early content because it really does help establish the characters and their relationships well.

I think a lot of anime-only viewers are going into this expecting a big serious battle shonen and will be disappointed to learn that it's more focused on cooking, world-building, and character interactions, at least until the main story line picks up later on.

The visuals are gorgeous and I'm loving the OST so far.

I actually really liked the first episode, especially the disgust at having to consider eating whatever they kill in the Dungeon to survive this quest to save the sister. I'm an AO and haven't read the manga, but for some reason I kept feeling this might go the direction of that one Fate cooking with the Emiya family show. I kinda hope it does.
