@Neptune_000 No. The kid is a trope that did not belong to this story and is poorly written. Do you have any idea what would happen to a kid talking like that to any period warrior/knight/viking/etc? He'd be bitch slapped into oblivion to remind him to show some freaking respect. NO kid spoke that way back then for good reason.

Insufferable barely scratches the surface of how poorly written his interactions are to fit in a trope. Its enough for me to drop this season if it continues, cant stomach it, just forced annoyance that S1 did not have. Even his very first appearance. He straight up rammed into a priest on a wide road and just essentially flipped them the bird. No. Just no. The fact he was able to leave that scene walking is beyond me.

Nah the kid sucks as a trope for this series and the whole trope does not fit. Giving it one more episode for either an abrupt 180 or he just dies off and dropped from the story. The forced tragic story is a hackjob. None of this was in S1 and it was better for it.

TLDR: Kid has to go
@rygrath yeah my thoughts excatly, he ruins any story there is since it all f centered about him.
Show called goblin slayer but right now its Red Wizard boy that is the f main, and then add the drop in quality of the shows graphic, plus so many up in the face shots so they do not have to do surroundings, making the flow of the show feel very gritty and bad.

The party being tolerant towards an idiot who would normally be a red flag for experienced adventurers is kind of par for the course. GS is about saving lives and killing goblins. Also, Elf archer has chilled significantly, so her not backhanding him into a wall makes sense. I am disappointed that his only real comeuppance was nearly getting crushed and nothing else. Also, the animation in the fight scenes was really lacking. Motion lines galore. I can accept this if only because either censorship is hitting hard, or the studio is putting more focus on later in the season. Who knows.

I do like that GS is having an existential crisis right now. Even if we put aside all the good he has done, that one death had consequences regardless of whether or not reality aligns to GS's perspective. I do love character-building arcs, so I'm hoping this has a significant payoff down the line.
"Thorkell has no resistance to getting kicked in the f-in head. To be honest, neither do I." -Captain Mack

"You've faced many life-and-death situations. But that does not make you an adult. Finding more fallen-out hairs on your pillow, watching your favorite stuffed-bread disappear from the convenience store... the accumulation of those little despairs is what makes a person an adult."-Nanami Kento

"When a piece of media is bad, it's much easier to nitpick the less significant things because they're seen as a part of the problem. Alternatively, it becomes more difficult to nitpick something like a masterpiece because even the flaws are seen as contributing to the overall quality of the media." -Paraphrasing Mauler

Just a thought, but wouldn't it be cool if Goblin Slayer has some sort of mental episode from this and mistakes the kid for a goblin?
Just thinking out loud is all :)
If that's the case, then it's more suitable that it tells the story of when he first started being an adventurer. But his village was attacked by goblins, his sister was tortured and killed before his eyes, he was trained by goblin, and then he hunted goblins his whole life, so I think it would be weird if that happened.

Holy moly, this episode was awesome! Several minutes of slaying goblins. That troll added even more epicness to the battle itself, haha.

Damn, so the annoying brat really did look familiar for the Priestess before, back in the first episode. His sister was a member of the very same party to whom the Priestess also belonged during that tragic quest when all members but one were killed.

Poor Goblin Slayer. Hearing about someone suffering similar fate and about many adventurers still considering "losing to a mere goblin" as a sign of inferiority and a reason to laugh at such person... these things must've been really hard pills to swallow by Goblin Slayer.

I'm wondering if an A.I is doing Goblin Slayer II, everything seems to be a poor quality caricature of what an A.I would think Goblin Slayer would be like.

So the priestess girl didn't lead her own independent party after all, Goblin Slayer and crew babysat her through the whole Quest. (it's not an adventure) So basically the whole thing about her proving that she's worthy of achieving a higher rank or whatever is completely wasted, the Guild would see that she's still going on quests with a bunch of Silver adventurers making the entire experience irrelevant due to their presence, she's still being carried despite her being the 'leader'.

The dialogue is weird and cheerful despite the constant whining of red head, the rock music playing over the top of the 'action' is cringeworthy, it feels so out of place because it's just regular Goblin Slaying. The Troll looks absolutely ridiculous, a complete joke, like the love child of Slimer and the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man from GhostBusters. The way it was slain was quite frankly stupid in comparison to how monsters were dealt with in the 1st season.

I couldn't take any of it seriously and I felt absolutely zero danger throughout the entire episode, I actually yawned at one point during the fighting.

The Goblins acted retarded. the girl Acolyte who was captured seemed none the worse for wear, a few badly animated thin nails that looked like pins in her hands and cheese wire wrapped around her wrists to bind her to the chair and that's it. In the first series captured people were utterly broken mentally from the ordeal, from what the red headed kid said it's more like when they 'lose to a Goblin' they have to deal with the red cheeked shame of a little bullying at some snooty Adventurers Academy, oh noooo.

Predictably the red head is the younger brother of the other arrogant red head female wizard who died at the beginning the 1st season, Goblin Slayers the only one that this kid "won't acknowledge", I bet Goblin Slayer's absolutely torn apart that he hasn't earned his esteem... oh wait, Goblin Slayer does have a little hissy fit, a good cry and throws up over beingthe girl's murderer or whatever they're trying to spin for dramatic emotional effect.

Red head learned nothing from the quest and almost got everyone killed, why's he even a part of this group? He's messing with the entire chemistry of the team, nobody even likes him! Even the viewers probably want him dead and out of the way this very episode so they don't have to suffer anymore of his teenage angst.

Everything about this new season is sub-par to the point of extremely poor, feels like an extremely low quality Isekai anime, another one where the rating is heavily padded due to the franchise and nostalgia.

I'm almost certain now that this anime doesn't have the capability to pick itself up out of the gutter where it's plunged itself, I'll watch episode 3 and then most probably drop it.

@SoulReaper01_ I think you need an eye check they put light reflection on eyes in a dark cave, shadowing, color warmness, animations are too bad. It's like changing graphic card of a pc from 2070rtx to 1060gtx. Years made you have forgotten the season 1 quality.

after the movie, the show kind of felt stale, like what's he gonna do next? Kill goblins? But the end of this one with the reflection of his sister might cause him to change his ways a bit.

@JeruKs FYI I was being sarcastic,as if he did mistake the kid for a goblin, the kid wouldn't be around to winge so much ;)
And,another FYI,as for who trained Slayer-san,I take it you mean Burglar? - If so,he isn't a goblin,he is a Rhea.

Quite thorough strategy planning.
rewatched 2 old episodes. OP & ED are a leap cooler than previous. S1's cg blood & cg characters are now 2d with better smoother animation, tho a few framings too close. Seen many sequels that suck, so props to Lidenfilms improving things.
oof brat & Orcbolg both had oneesan, and related to Priestess. Orcbolg ptsd returns.

Uses some nice elements to keep the party going. Things could have gone so wrong with this episode but we saw none of that. Goblin Slayer proving that he is back on his BS. Nothing can be done but to be excited for episode 3.

Episode 1 kind of scared me but I believe I need to go back and watch the movie as well.
This anime pairing with Mushoko Tensei season 2 has me set for fresh fantasy.

Red haired mage isn't just inexperienced or impatient. He's not just angry or emotional. He's AGGRESSIVELY stupid. He's lucky enough to be paired with an entire team of veteran adventurers for his first mission and he doesn't just refuse to listen to their advice, he actively gets angry when they try and teach him and then sabotages the group.

I hate aggressively stupid characters, especially when their aggressive stupidity endangers those around them. I don't care if he has a tragic backstory. Unfortunately, he seems to be a main character, so he'll probably live.

This episode was much better than the last one, but the direction of the fight scenes felt a bit off to me, not the biggest fan of this change honestly.
Either way, we got some Goblin killing this episode, which is always more exciting! But for real, that red hair kid is SO ANNOYING. He could have had himself and the team killed, and he's just so annoying. I really hope he has a massive character development or just disappears.
The team managed to complete the mission and save that adventurer.
At the end, it was revealed this wizard kid is actually the little brother of the girl mage of the priest's 1st party, which for me came as a surprise because I didn't connect the dots at all. It makes sense now why the Priestess recognized him. And it does seem that affected her a lot too, bringing up hurtful memories from that traumatic event (even I had my own trauma from that 1st episode remembered , and it has been 5 years).
Now, I was a bit confused with Goblin Slayer's reaction. First, I like how they are giving him more human traits, character development is always appreciated. But I didn't really understand if he was having hurtful memories and having a mental breakdown because he wasn't able to save the Priest's party back then, and had to kill the kid's sister to put her out of her misery, or was it because, just like the red-haired wizard wasn't able to protect his older sister from the goblins, Goblin Slayer was also not able to protect his sister from the Goblins back when he was a child? It really makes me wonder what was the reason, maybe both? I think we will get an answer to that next episode, but 1st I'll need to watch the said movie, because apparently the volumes 3 and 4 of the Light Novel will just be forgotten.

Never thought GS would take that heavily. It wasn't entirely his fault and couldn't do anything. We all know it was noob party's fault that got them and fall
into demise. In adventuring swinging a sword or casting a spell isn't enough to help you but preparation and adapting in some situations. Despite the wizard brat's
failure to obey commands and go out on his own, the GS and the rest we're able to handle it.

My dude, a party is key to having a better and safer adventure. Now the red-haired kid is getting on my nerves. He doesn’t know anything, and he’s acting like he knows better than people who have far more experience than him. His actions are so incredibly reckless. What an annoying character to have at the beginning of this season!

That was a bit disappointing. Not just the nudity but even the gore got censored. I thought this season would be better than the first.
@DarkDooM2 IIRC, the gore is true to the LN in the anime. I believe she "only" had nails hammered in her fingers. Maybe the mangaka chose to cut them off because it seems less graphic. (For example, I'd go for amputations over open fractures any day of the week, imo.)

Another low ranked adventurers fell victim to goblins. As per the usual with this show. For some reason this show just refuses to grow and develop. Why are they still sending low rankers to take on goblins? And these places where goblins congregate, shouldn't there be like an association or agency whatever that destroys them? Then goblins will be forced to camp out in the open where they will be easily seen. And after goblin slayer and his gang clears up these goblin nests, what they just leave em there so goblins will camp in them again after some time? And the characters are all the same too tf none of them has grown. Nothing fucking changed. You know with these fantasy worlds, 99% of their problems would be solved if they just used common sense. Like these adventurers that kill monsters? If us modern humans are in their place, we would've hunted every single one of them to extinction. Man, this show is really frustrating.
