I was so caught off guard how much I loved this show!!!!!!! The SECOND Shiro had his hair slicked back from the water, and you could tell who he was. And Mimihime gave him the button, dude I was crying. Such a great tie in. I love different timelines, and I especially love when they are done so well.
Maru and Kiruko are so perfectly balanced, it’s very pleasing to see. They compliment each others flaws and highlight their strengths. Once you can rely on a character dynamic it makes the show a much more reliable and enjoyable watch. I love that they don’t deviate from that- and I hope they continue to stick to it
The show does a really great job of managing your anticipation. Right as you start to guess on one aspect, they reveal something completely different. It expands the world for you and answers some questions, while also asking more. Just enough clues along the way for you to make your own guesses, and just enough answers to reward you and keep you driving for more. Seriously loved this show

Tis but a scratch!! A monty python reference!! In the flashbacks, Kiruko did look rather sad. With the flashback I do wonder if Robin previously r***d Kiruko. Man what was that cliffhanger?? Someone please tell me there's going to be a 3rd season.

Desperately needs a season two. So many grand ideas and plot lines are introduced that just get perverted and fall apart.

Great ideas, terrible execution. In hopes and belief of the potential this anime has, 6/10.

That's a lot of open ends for a show that hasn't yet announced a second season! Here's hoping they do soon tho. It was a really good one!

I don't even know anymore. I was skeptical when in the first episode there were a bunch of guys who tried to rape and possibly murder the protagonists and then they made smalltalk with them. But this. What the actual fuck. "Hey am would you mind not hurting my rapist thx" Are you joking? The apocalypse was not the worst thing happening to mankind but this attitude of getting hard by being the victim and then just "make up" with people who want to do the most inhumane things to you? Absolute garbage, I hope it doesnt get a second season. I don't even care about the hiroku , tokyo or the origin of everything anymore. It was a good show to some point but I can't watch people acting like this.

Well, I do hope you'll never have to deal with a rape victim because this attitude will hurt him or her double.

Don't get me wrong, every episode was great, even the one with bad animation/"stylized", and even this episode was great...but this season finale was insultingly unfulfilling. I was pissed at the end of the last episode with the "Robin rapey scene", not so much because of the "rape" (though that did tick me off) but because it came out of nowhere and I knew that it was drama BS that was going to take up valuable time from the finale that could have been used instead to answer or resolve one of the many mysteries. And I was right, this finale wasted so much time with the drama BS that no new answers was really provided for any of the mysteries most people actually cared about. All this insulting distraction caused was for the audience to question whether it was rape or not, and most people left thinking it was rape anyways. The show didn't even bother to answer whether it was actually rape or not, and it's not even resolved since for sure Robin is going to crop up again somewhere down the line, and now Maru wants to kill him the next time they meet.

At the very least I thought the season finale would show something like what happened to Kiriko after Haruko passed out before the brain swap. You know, answer something...anything! to give us some satisfaction of a payoff before the long drought before the next season, if there ever is one. But no, not even that.

Again, very good anime, but that was ridiculous stingy when it came to rewarding a season's worth of investment with payoffs. I get there's fun in the journey which is why I say every episode was great, and there's hidden rewards in rewatching with the knowledge I got now, but that still doesn't answer nor resolve any of the things I want to be. Very unsatisfying.

Goddamnit robin! If I were Maru I'd tie him up and cut skins and nails, hands, etc so that he won't die and will keep screaming self until dies.

Masterpiece anime and best ending 10/10

This has been a great show. But I hesitate to give it a rating because I feel like everything hinges on the developments, and there are just too many open questions at this time. I really hope they make a season 2.
Just sorting out my thoughts... We know that the director woman was trying to swap bodies to remain forever young, which is apparently a train of thought multiple characters have had throughout the show, to fuse with the hiruki. So there's an original alien/monster or whatever it is that's the core of the facility, and all the children are born from it. But according to the scientist, they have to be 13-15 years old to gain enough stability for the transfer to take place. I think we can also infer that none of those children have ever reached 15, and have all died one way or another, probably to that disease that reverts them back to monster form.

When Tokio broke into the incubator with that other black haired girl, it left an impression on one of the first generation babies, which then took the form of Tokio's actual baby next to it. So we know there's a 1st gen and 2nd gen test subject that was mixed up. I think it's fair to believe that the director inhabited one of these, which the other one must travel back to kill "to make everything better". The fact that Maru's older sister in episode 2 died of the same disease, along with his ability, proves that he came out from that lab, and is likely one of the hiruki himself.

This also means the monster forms the hiruki take can be inspired by something they've seen, and the oldest of the children in the facility drawing all those artworks probably played a role in that. Meaning all those kids are probably the hiruki.

Since Maru is 15 years old though, it means he's probably going to get that disease soon if he was actually the 1st gen copy, or if he's actually Tokio's child and successfully avoided getting the disease, I wonder if the director then failed to maintain her consciousness since she would have the disease...?

---
Anyways, it's not like this kind of plot hasn't been done before, but this probably had one of the best executions.

They proceeded to hold them up at gunpoint (even though the gun was uncharged - the would-be attackers didn't know that) and have the gang take them back to their base where they strongarmed them into getting what they wanted from them before leaving. What else were they supposed to do? Wag a finger and look at them sternly while giving them a lecture on ethics instructing them not to attack future passersby when they know the group won't give a shit about what they have to say and it won't change a damn thing? Act on the surface 100x more angry and aggrieved than they actually genuinely feel because it's a post-apocalyptic wasteland world and the implication is that offscreen before the start of the series they have probably been through this and similar shit a hundred or a thousand times before so they're emotionally blasé, burned out, and past it all? Not everyone experiences and reacts to events in the same way or has the same baseline temperament and the situation presented in the show and how the characters react to and navigate it is unique to that world and them.

Not not hurting. Not killing. Because he had already pummeled him numerous times with strong punches against a hard floor and the guy was bleeding from his face/head at that point. Not continuing to go on any further and actually kill him is what she said.

a great anime and no season 2 immediate announcement :( I hate it when that happens. this one deserves several seasons indeed.

now my only gripe with this final series of events: it's almost insulting to sexual abuse victims everywhere that something so dense and serious is treated here in a "oh well 10 mins after I'm ok and won't be depressed" kinda way. no trauma no PTSD, just "well, got raped such is life." makes it feel as if the entire event was just gratuitous sex violence and cheap shock with no real consecuence to the plot. maybe in season 2/next chapters it could turn out that he has PTSD or some sort of sequel but so far it seems like it will be treated like just another quick obstacle in our journey.

but oh well, asides from that this was a great feast for the season.

this was my biggest issue with the finale... it might change if season 2 actually shows the effects that all that SHOULD have on Haruki, but we'll have to wait a long time to check if that's the case

I'm also not sure if the show dealt the best way possible with the gender issues overall, it really bothered me several times...

other than that, the setting and plot (as confused as it is) are incredibly interesting to me, absolutely my cup of tea, and I hope to see more shows like this

This wasn't even an ending. The season just... came to a stop. I wouldn't even call it a cliffhanger, the story is still only half-way up the mountain.

This show is basically impossible to rate at this point. I can easily say this was a 9/10 (or even 10/10 depending on the mood) in terms of the experience of watching every episode, but at the same time a 5/10 when I look at the story as a whole and the frustration I'm feeling now.

This HAS to get a Season 2, and I WILL be there to watch while it's airing, instead of catching up afterwards like I did Season 1.

But it's still so disappointing that the production team could not make a more satisfying cut-off point in the story...

Sawatari mixed the babies up last ep. A bleeding wound around his head... could he be Dr. Sakota? He knows about brain transplants and Hiruko.
Well, he decided the one with the circle will be sent back to Tokio so even if he got the clone mixed up, at least the child that Tokio is told is hers will most likely be Maru in the future, based on the name.

"Noah Project". With how everyone in the room reacts to the lame naming sense... IS AOSHIMA HARUKI AND KIRIKO'S MOM????

Maru's beat-em-up animations were so cathartic. When he's angered, he goes all out. The guard right at the door thought he knew how to fight.

Kiriko's lingering memory of Haruki has Robin's voice say "Since Haruki's a deep sleeper". He wanted to repeat the act with Haruki awake and aware hence the mirror last episode. This affirms the suspicion that Robin raped Kiriko., eventually leading to her shooting.

Bhhhha bet Robin cornered himself, bet he thought he could jump or throw Maru out the window but nope...Maru saw the result of the atrocity committed on Kiruko. He completely overpowers any move taken by Robin to run away.
The biggest catharsis; Maru's repeated battering of Robin's head into mush.

Sawatari and other staff members arrive with Tokio Jr., they withheld teaching sex education and reproduction to the children for so long, but now as the facility is being bombed, it's vital, that Tokio knows the child is hers and Kona's. Having only called her child cute once, the director has figured out Sawatari and Aoshima are doing a coup and comes to take the body she think she deserves. Hmm, was the medical robot in Tokio's bedroom disconnected from Mina or is Mina just playing along so the director doesn't suspect that Mina was working behind her back, too?

With the instruments coming closer to harvest her child's body, Tokio's maternal Hiruko instinct kicks in, her lesions are red not black and unleashes a bright flash.

Shiro, who fumbled explaining his feelings inside the nursery, confesses to Mimihime... Mimihime reciprocates and gives him one of her buttons, a memento he would keep until death.

I think Kiruko stopped Maru's beatdown from totally killing Robin because she remembers the last time he declared that all his hands were good for killing. While he wouldn't have been attracted to Haruki, he declares he may not have been attracted to Kiriko either, his way of saying he thinks of Kiruko as a new person.

The Ministry of Reconstruction had black caped uniforms like a cross between Meiji period Japan and the Empire from LotGH. A Hiruko is in one of the rooms; I knew it, there were way more skeletons in the filtration plant chief's closet.

The four who made it to the outside of the outside are in a boat (must be the "Noah Project") heading towards a brightly lit city, a view they've seen for the first time in their sheltered lives. With that, we know these scenes are pre-Great Disaster.

The first Hiruko unleashed onto the world may not solely be them as Shiro and Mimihime remain human in the future and we know Ouma ends up in Usami/Shiro's hospital basement, Kuku becomes the fish. Hope we find out what happens to Tokio, Kona and the rest in the next season.

It's a typical anime for manga advertising. But anime itself due its story nature is a mess which wants to be emotional so hard but lacks a character development just like I assumed it will be when finished first one episode. It's almost always about the way but rarely about the destination, then what is the point to make some pretentious story with many characters? Just because people want it? And then still makes manga and anime at slice of life pacing with a typical romance, 101 cruelty scenes and especially unfunny humor. In chapter 39 Haruki thinks all of sudden like he is Kiruko in fact and simply doesn't deserve to be with Maru and cry about it, what is this crap and where author is going on with his fetishes like 'let's put consciousnesses of brother and sister in one bowl, mix them, and then push them both to have sex!'? Let me guess, author will end this story with a sex scene between Maru and Haruki with Kiruko at the same time with a mirror around to see it better? Shyest propaganda of perversions I ever seen. Despite how aimless this anime felt and other cons it still much better than an obvious source of author's inspiration - Shinsekai Yori.

Aawww, that confession from Maru was so good, for him it's just pure love, no matter who's inside of that brain.
He loves the person he knows and that's it.

A lot of unanswered questions, I'm really excited to learn more about this world.
I think they did a fantastic job building this world, the mystery was great.
Learning about the facility and how these children are in fact Hiruko (Man-Eaters) created to experiment on. - The director wanting to transplant her brain into a working body that wouldn't die from the "disease".

Fantastic anime though, animation / art was just beautiful and story was really interesting.
Can't wait for Season 2!

They should get done with Robin, he deserved nothing less than that. Maru is more rational than Kiruko, i know your're so nice but letting the pest go is a mistake. The past of orphanage also didn't get told in full, what happen to tokio and her child and Kona with 5th grade. It feel there are continuation to this

the fact they totally shove away what happen to Kiruko and just move on is weird and left a bitter taste to my throat. This anime is like more sexualized version of neverland and shin sekai yori.

From what I'm getting from this.

Maru is the son of tokio and Kona and when they escaped the dome place that's when the disaster take place not long after.

So there's two timelines going on, past and present.

The whole girl getting rape is pretty dark, they moved on like it was nothing.

Obviously there's so much missing in the story

@xONLYINHUMANx I do know Maru is Tokio's son but the other Maru's twin fate is not revealed, after Tokio using her power to protect the Maru clon and the fact Kona will become Hiruko is only makes their future more mysterious. How they become hiruko in the first place and turn to be monster in the future is what i was curious about actually.
