I always find it strange when characters in anime don't take their gloves off when shaking hands. Are authors just lazy or Japanese don't have this concept because it's foreign to their culture?

I think they just don't know better or if they do they have different rules on this.

Handshaking was initially done to proof to the other one that you are harmless and can be trusted. They would literally shake each other's arm to see if the other one has any weapons like daggers and later guns hidden in their sleeves. And of course that wouldn't make much sense if they wore gloves where they could also hide something, that's why you usually take off your gloves before shaking hands. Of course today it doesn't really matter anymore and is just a relic of the past but so is handshaking in general.

Hands are easier to draw and animate when there are gloves on them. That's why so many cartoon characters wear gloves.

Handshaking is dangerous. One time it even led to the creation of Hand Shakers.

It's a good idea to keep gloves on and avoid germs from shaking hands

I've never taken off my gloves to shake hands with anyone, but I don't wear gloves often and hate the whole act of shaking hands. Feels like some weird macho power struggle thing that I just can't be fucked doing.

This is exactly why you need to take the gloves off, though. If you are disgusted or afraid to touch the one you talk to, clearly there's no trust between you and there's no point in handshake in the first place.

the only correct way to do a handshake is by using it as a bait to throw your enemy across away from you

It's to not spend time, frames and stuff on a character taking off a glove. Yes, they could show the hand without the glove, but then "lool where'd dat glove go? lazy, cheap production with animation errors" or something along the lines.

I made this up

When both of them are wearing gloves than why would they take it off?

In etiquette [at least in Poland] you take off gloves when the second person is not wearing them to not shake hands in situations of glove x bare hand.

japanese don't understand the idea of handshaking anyways, in some anime they shake with left hands which is not used in real life. They only know how to bow which is inferior to handshaking.

There shouldn't be any trust among characters in animes with violent plot...
It's just my thoughts... I don't want trust

If there was a virus that makes people appreciate ecchi and fan-service in general, I'd gladly become a superspeader. But only if it's a hot girl fan-service, obviously.
