This episode is so heart breaking when it comes to Arnheid's death. She lost her son and husband and now she lost her unborn child. I Bet Ketil is going to regret this.

Good Christ, imagine being Arnheid... you've been mortally wounded by the slave master who used you like a fleshlight, you had plenty of chances to kill and escape from him but refused to, you're now riddled with bruises, broken bones, internal bleeding, and you're dying... but, to top ALL THAT off, you've got fucking Simpnar SHAKING YOUR BROKEN BODY like a mad man and SCREAMING in your ear to Wake Up! - which is actually preventing you from passing on to the painless afterlife where your loving family members are waiting for you!

Fuck Simpnar for putting Arnheid through that thoughtless and undoubtedly painful dying experience. Let her be with her >Husband< dude, let her go, literally.

The guy didn't protect his mother or sister, and he couldn't protect Arnheid. What a cunt.

brutality on the battlefield and ketil's men were getting straight flexed on.
thorgil did very well against canute and with a strategic retreat, but i'm surprised he wasn't hit with an arrow or spear or something while running/swimming.
that eyeball poke was so sudden and brutal thoooo, no censorship W but damn. wulf goated af as well.
rip arnheid, it's been rough. it hit me when she brought up their morning chats. CPR scene was a hard watch, just let her go man.

Idk what is but Arnheid’s death didn’t really hit me as hard as it was supposed to. The fight at the beginning and the attack on Canute was awesome. Really tense at the beginning and now with Thorfinn going to talk to Canute. Awesome. But only 4 stars because Arnheid’s death didn’t hit for me.

The current fight, or shall we say this massacre, illustrates the enormous difference in strength between Canute's and Ketil's men. Of course, from Fox's point of view, it's fun when he can brutally kill someone weaker. Faced with such a terrible enemy, he now realized that he's on the weaker side and that there's a high probability he would not survive either. Especially his reaction when he saw the clearly inferior Badger fighting and couldn't rush to his aid out of sheer fear, emphasizes this controversy even more. Once again Snake had to step to the rescue.

I actually didn't really expect Canute to be so surprised by Thorgil's attack as he usually plans for any eventuality. Unfortunately, even with this tremendous advantage, Thorgil was unable to bring Canute down and eventually had to flee, which he audibly resented. After all, Canute's men had to fall back as a result, which gave Snake and Ketil, who unfortunately survived, the chance to escape.

I cannot put into words how hard Arnheid's death hit me. While the title of this episode and the dream from the last one anticipated her inevitable fate, I still wish she had made it. With all of her loved ones dead, it becomes almost impossible to find a reason to live on.

"Why do I have to live?"

Thorfinn in particular understands these words only too well, as he asked himself the same question not long ago and was looking for a reason to live to escape his inner emptiness. Arnheid's injuries were bad enough as it was, and with her lost will to live, there was no way she could be saved. To see Thorfinn and Einar desperately trying to keep her alive after Arnheid's last words was heartbreaking and lifted to something indescribable by the voice actors and the OST.
I feel particularly sorry for Einar. Once again he had to witness the death of a loved one, leaving him absolutely hopeless and helpless. Of course, with the appearance of Snake and the still unconscious Ketil, those feelings turned into anger and hatred as he now found the target to avenge Arnheid. I don't think anyone other than Thorfinn could have brought Einar back to his senses, for which I'm sure Einar will thank him at some point. Through his own experience, Thorfinn knows that Einhar's anger and hatred could not be quenched even if Ketil were dead and therefor was able to find the right words for a beautiful speech.

Thorfinn's character development is incredible. For him the fight is not over yet and especially with Arnheid's death he is all the more willing to prevent further deaths. His current self reminds me a lot of Thors who would certainly be proud of his son.

I've also never seen Thorfinn with such confidence, which makes it even harder to predict what his reunion with Canute will be like.

Just look at this man's eyes and his determination.

Can't wait for next week.

Phenomenal episode.
Ketil's men are brutally slaughtered by Canute's army. It was not even a contest.
Snake saved one of his men from a close call and ordered a retreat. That was a smart call. Those vikings are savages.

Thorgil striked back from behind and almost took out Canute. However, Canute deflected the blow.
All that training prepared Canute because this man can defend well. But Thorgil's brute strength overwhelmed him.
Canute's body guard came just in the knick of time tho.

Arnheld passing away under her last breath was tragic. Thorfinn couldn't successfully use CPR on her. Poor Einar. Man confessed his feelings to her but there was nothing that he could do.
Einar completely broke. Rest in peace, Arnheid. She can finally meet Gardar and her children blissfully..

Animation for the opening battle went way harder than I thought it would. I really like how they made it as gruesome as possible.

Keeping Arnheid alive last 2 episodes only for her to die here was brutal though.

Rest in peace Arnheid I still had a little hope she would make it but her condition was too critical, I loved that Thorfinn kept Einar from killing Ketil because it would put him in the same curse as Thorfinn, respect.

I was really scared that Canute would be killed by Thorgil's sneak attack but thankfully he was trained for combat so he held Thorgil off long enough for Wulf to come to the rescue and force him retreat.

Next episode we'll get a confrontation between Canute and Thorfinn and we might to see a certain panel I've been seeing animated looking forward to that!

Must have forgotten that line because that was pretty bad ass when Thorfinn's like... I counted about 100 soldiers still in Canute's camp so I should still at least make it back alive. Could be Thorfinn's dark humor, but he is a bad ass so... :P

The title couldn't be more fitting to describe this episode as a whole.

The fight continued to be heavily one-sided, with Fox, whose internal monologue showed how he did enjoy killing here and there, was petrified after seeing how brutal the Jomsvikings butchered everyone in their way. His comrade, Bear, whose fight had some really nice animation to it, had to be rescued by Snake before calling for a retreat. This caught Ketil completely off-guard and when he tried and failed to stop one soldier from retreating, he was then attacked himself.

When that happened, Thorgil got up to level land just as Wulf left Canute's side to see what happened to Ketil, so he launched his stealth attack. Since he was running in the grass and made more noise than needed, Canute heard this and was barely able to block Thorgil's attack. Wulf got back and then went all out, but he wasn't strong enough to take out Thorgil, who responded by squishing Wulf's right eyeball before making his retreat.

After that, came the saddest part of the episode where Arnheid died due to her injuries, just after she confirmed to the others around her that her unborn baby was also dead. Thorfinn's attempt to resuscitate her was admirable, but at that point, Arnheid was beyond saving. As if the timing couldn't be any worse, Snake, carrying a heavily injured Ketil, arrived, which sent Einar into pure anger. Thorfinn was able to stop Einar by punching him hard in the face after he too got punched before consoling Einar with truly inspirational words. ='(

After Arnheid was buried, Thorfinn decided it was time to confront Canute once and for all. Leif objected to it at first, but after hearing Thorfinn's reasons, as well as voicing out how proud he was of the citizens who escaped war and settled in Iceland, Leif promised that he'll be waiting for Thorfinn's return.

I can only hope that Thorfinn will return safely. It's going to be tough on him, which the preview for the next episode showcased pretty well, but I have faith that he can pull this off.

This episode was great, poor Arnheid, I wanted her to survive and live a happy life with the dude but I guess the main characters can't have a happy ending here.

At least Snake and Thorgil survived, I was pretty sure they were gonna die, I like those characters but man, poor girl, and kudos to the voice actress of that girl, she did a magnificent job doing her voice. My only complaint is the OST, the emotions on this episode were pretty good, but it needed a better OST, with a better emotional OST with better melody I would have shed a couple of tears here so yeah, having a good OST in these moments is extremely important to get me in the mood.

Apart from my criticism of the OST, the episode is pretty good.

The battle was brutal. No censorship from Mappa. All those voice actors made the scenes even more disturbing.

I love how Canute defended himself, all that training has paid off. And his main guard ain’t giving up goddamn.

Thorfinn’s speech to Einar is great, I love when he starts preaching to others!

Lol Thorfinn implying he can defeat a 100 kingsmen, that’s cold. I can’t wait to see how his conversation with Canute goes.

This was absolutely Heart wrenching. Every aspect of it.

The realisation that Ketil has lost not only his farm but his family. That line "justice lies with those with power" (along those lines at least) hit HARD. All those bodies and Canute is still trying to act like the good guy. I dont know what to make of him.

Then Arnheids death, Thorfinns eulogy, Einar's rage it was all too much. Even through it the pain Thorfinn had telling him to let it go, he's still hurting. It was well done, I felt the pain too.

Keen for the next EP, its been years since Canute sent him into slavery, I wonder how he will react seeing Thorfin after all this time. Also to see Thorfinn's reaction upon seeing him. Has time changed him or will those emotions eat him alive?

Well, after the beating she took, it was inevitable. Kinda wanted to see Ketil's reaction to that but it can wait.

Thorfinn's line here was so badass though, only 100 men, worst-case scenario, he makes it back alive. The absolute confidence this guy has now, you can even see it in his eyes. Next Monday can't come sooner.

A quick search anywhere online, even with just the online encyclopedia, Wikipedia, could tell you that.

"Vinland, Vineland,[2][3] or Winland[4] (Old Norse: Vínland) was an area of coastal North America explored by Vikings. Leif Eriksson landed there around 1000 AD, nearly five centuries before the voyages of Christopher Columbus and John Cabot.[5] The name appears in the Vinland Sagas, and describes Newfoundland and the Gulf of Saint Lawrence as far as northeastern New Brunswick"

Badger even after his arm cut off was still fighting and the animation go hard for that one, Wulf also being a good vassal for the king sacrificing his eye. Arnheid passed away and it was a really sad moment a lot of emotions running through Einar, Thorfinn and Einar trying to save Arnheid and Thorfinn telling her about Vinland just how his father did in ep the first episodes. Thorfinn tryna stop the war is gonna be hard but only 4 more episodes to go, this arc is coming to an end.
