yeah which is pretty unfortunate but i think they shouldn’t have skipped things that can help the watchers understand the mc’s (shinpei) motivation better and how he handles important situations

I don't think they skipped important things. Like someone said before in the topic, I think they just reorder the events and they will explain later what Shinpei did and the purpose of it.

That’s true thanks for the reassurance. Kinda sad that shinpei is getting misunderstood because of that tho

Hizuru is such an intelligent & big brain lady not to mention powerful and beautiful too...i love this type of characters especially when they acts an aid for MC. We finally got see all the things that happened in background through Hizuru's pov on the day of funeral, ngl this series keeps getting better with all reveal...
also, shinpei is such a good mc.

Great episode like always, felt dynamic and the animation is beautiful as always. Loved the center around hizuru, her expressions and her cleverness she’s a great character to follow, now i’m always satisfied with the adaptation so far but this episode i can’t help but felt like they should have not cut some scenes, for exemple there is a scene in the manga when Alan talks to hizuru alone like he did in the anime and he ended up crying asking her what did ushio ever do to the one who killed her (or smth along the lines) i really liked that scene and felt really sad for Alan and I wanted to see it animated to put weight on the situation and how the death of ushio affected the person most closest to her, her father.

But unfortunately that didn’t show up in the anime, they skipped some dialogue too and they could have made some scenes more impactful like the bathroom scene with hizuru or the shotgun scene with nezu and shinpei because the art in the manga in those moments is one of my favorite, if anyone is interested to see them they’re on chapters 24-25-26 i think, but i liked the movement and close ups of Hizuru her crying and her scene with the shadow of her childhood friend was rly well done

This is a nitpick but they also changed the scene where shinpei talked to shiori, he was aware all the time she is a shadow and had a plan to execute in his mind, in the anime they kind of glossed off over that but at least they showed that shinpei knew she was a shadow, he also finds out her parents are shadows in the same moment but in the anime it appeared like her parents got suspicious of him and talked to him first which kinda underwhelms his reasoning but it’s minor so i can overlook i just really love the manga and the anime have been faithful so far and i can see that the staff enjoy working on this project so i hope it will be great til the end

anyways the episode was awesome, felt so short tho :(

Rewind back to July 22nd, and this time we start from Nagumo-sensei a.k.a Hizuru's POV to retrace all of what's happened to deduce Shadows in the background from people whom knew her, and those whom are close to both sisters Ushio and Mio, be it family or friends.

Shinpei's POV (as we seen before) broken down in Hizuru's circumstance state where more mysteries surface and gets clarified, and sure enough, the distinction between human and Shadow only Hizuru can decipher, as such with the Kobayakawa family first being Shadows without a doubt. And fisherman Nezu Ginjiro is her only confidante in this case to investigate secretly.

As for Shinpei, repeating events again and again while discovering more Shadows a la the Kobayakawa family to put two and two together, it's a delicate balance of collecting intel and not being exposed. Decrpying the Taman Shud code leads Shinpei to Nezu, while Shinpei being lead by Nezu to show his true colours based on trust being real or fake.

Nagumo's secrets are slowly being revealed to Shinpei, and what he learns will shake this Shadow plot more.

That is an answer to your previous quote from my answer and also this post.

Yeah, only the next two episodes will tell us if we were right about the reordering of the events.

I totally agree with you about Alain’s scene when he cried. So, I really hope they can still adapt it later in another timeloop or even way later in the anime. Maybe they are keeping this scene for later in order for it to have more impact haha ! Let’s hope ! 😁

Great to see Hizuru's perspective of things. A fresh change of pace; really needed that.

We got a hands-on demonstration of how to check for shadows by Hizuru. Loved how she bashed the shadow of the old man like that.

Subs came out late this time but understandable since they're doing it from scratch.

Holy fuck, I love Hizuru. Great episode! It's really nice to see Hizuru's perspective on the happenings so far in the island. Like Goddamn, since when has the Kobayakawa's been shadows. Was dope as hell how Hizuru killed Alan's shadow, really funny too lmao.

Shinpei warning Shiori about the shadows worked last time and they didn't copy him in the funeral, but he probably didn't talk to her parents like he did here in this loop, so that's probably gonna bite him in the ass later.

On the bright side, Shinpei got allies now that knows about his time looping, let's go. Really Subaru-esque when Hizuru deduced he's a time looper, I mean, it's definitely painful to experience all that shit, so it's comforting to be able to talk to someone about it. Though if Hizuru or Shinpei get's copied, then it's over, they'll know about the time looping. Really looking forward to the next episode.

Damn, this was some episode! It’s interesting that Hizuru-san showed up in the funeral just before Shin and Mio did. We’re starting to more of the whole picture, and that’s an aspect I love to experience in shows like this.

Looks like the memory is being retained in an interesting fashion. At some point, I suppose the reincarnated Shin takes over but all the preceding events move like the usual. I know it’s obvious that this is how it’d obviously work but it’s good to have confirmation nonetheless.

Hizuru-san seemed to remember a bit from the previous timeline too, that’s interesting! Phew, there were tons of awesome scenes featuring her though. I can’t wait to see how the partnership will evolve from here on.

Poor Shiori-chan and her family, looks like they’re beyond saving after all since they come after the respawn point. Panty and well-endowed references, sneaky little fanservice lol.

Apparently, the anime adapted more chapters this episode but it hardly felt like it. Good signs, that. Hopefully, it’ll continue to be negligible like this.

Dang I'd piss myself after that look from Shiori's "parents".

I might've misunderstood that part since I watched the raw, but Shinpei said he was purposely repeating all conversations so that he won't get suspected by the shadows. How come Shiori's shadow parents were suspicious of him this time but not the first time around?
Shiori's parents were suspicious in previous loop too but it was never shown. The only thing changed was Shinpei noticing the shadow. He had the same conversation on previous loop too, but he didn't see the shadow last time so that's why he didn't know everyone was already dead. This time he knew difference between shadow and real ones.

Very interesting. Everything seems centered around what happened 14 years ago and Ryuunosuke. Note that in that scene Hizuru said Haine (or something like that) which is the same name she said in the last episode when first gazing upon that shadow girl thing floating in the sky.

Did you know that this takes place in summer? Fun fact, if you listen closely you will hear the GODDAMN CICADAS IN THE BACKGROUND which tells us that this anime does indeed take place during summer. Also, it's in the title.

Great episode as always. I wonder what they'll do different from now on.
Also, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the shadows only make that glitching effect if the person they're a copy of isn't dead. It's a possible detail that I've picked up on.

Hmm ofc the true reason behind Ushio death was because of shadow being covered. The one that handle her was the one that being showed also had a relationship with shadow. Need more detail about what's his motive doing that, especially what those girl said in the previous episode....

Alright, unexpected slower pace, but honestly acceptable since booba lady took over almost all episode duration with her brilliant deduction skill to identified all those shadows, killed Alan shadow with a blast, and then shot Shinpei with a very nice conclusion. In the other side, very well done job for Shinpei that did try the same thing, but different angle when handling Shiori family, resulting him to avoid being copied, and then figure out Mio get copied yesterday. Seriously, asking Mio like that? You were so creep, Shinpei xd.

He also doing a bold move by questioning all those people, since some of them are actually quite being involved, i'd assume, and must be aware to be more careful around Shinpei. But in the end, Shinpei manage to complete his first objective to meet sensei faster than i expected, and he also share the identity as a time traveler with her.

Now that's some exciting end! While also quiet sad since the next episode can't be out more faster....

Dude burst out in tears because Nagumo is smart enough to conclude he's a time traveler without him having to go through the pain of explaining that himself and sounding like a fool. A perfect way to end the episode.

The episode starts from a different point of view this time, Nagumo's point of view. One thing that really bothers me is Alan's conversation with her. He reveals that there were marks on his daughter's dead body, but somehow he hasn't entertained the thought that she might have been killed and that a further investigation is needed? This detail doesn't sit right with me.

One very interesting thing is, Nagumo was expecting a call, but again, we don't know why. It also seems like she knows Shinpei and knows something we don't know.

I'm going to summarize the points that caught my attention/major points of each episode.
1) 14 years ago, someone died. (This could be related to the shadows)
2) The shadows are trying to cover up Ushio's cause of death. I'm not sure how true this is, but the bruises being concealed with makeup or whatever was fishy.
3) Nagumo got rid of the shadow of Alan, I'm still trying to process how she suspected he had a shadow.
4) The Asako's are dead, but their shadows are roaming the island and probably copying and killing people.
I sometimes forget to finish my sentences.

Can I just say that moving the checkpoint is a really brilliant concept for the time looping genre?
Most anime/games just allow infinite loops, some put an arbitrary limit, but moving the checkpoint creates a solid tension, while also avoiding the "let's just commit seppuku to start again" trend.

Having Hizuru's help from the beginning should change things up big time. Gah, it's gonna be a long week!

If I have to praise something about this show is how it keeps creating secundary tension sources to improve the flow of the show, instead of stalling with the main event of each episode. From the parents twist to the Alan shadow to the code and meeting, while the episode repeated past actions, the change of perspective incorporated a bunch of information that were either obscured or misdirected before, kind of clean to watch

Before I watch episode 6, I'm predicting that Nagumo Ryuunosuke is actually responding to messages from Shinpei from some time in the future, though I can't guess as to how far ahead that may be. Throughout most of these episodes, Shinpei has definitely been narrating in the past tense, recounting events that he 'remembered' from before.

I don't know if this episode will provide me an answer, but it'll be interesting to find out whenever I do!

UPDATE:

Darnit, as expected I didn't get my answer LOL Anyway, super interesting episode! I loved seeing Nagumo's side of the story. Also, learning that Nagumo Ryuunosuke was indeed a male name, as I had first guessed.

Super cool to see how the Shadows move when about to be stepped on! And impressed with how intelligent Hizuru/Miss Nagumo is.

Excited for the next episode~

At the begining of episode 4, she introduces herself as Nagumo Ryunosuke after she kills shadow Mio. Nagumo Ryunosuke is the name of the author of swamp man as revealed in episode 2 and also shown at the end of episode 4. The hunter took Shinpei to Hizuru in this loop because Shinpei knew about her pen name which shouldn't have been possible.

That's also one reason why Hizuru deduces that he's a time traveller since she realizes a version of herself must have told him that info.
