Lots of people are hating on the anime just because... CGI, or whatever. 7.52 isn't a bad score, it just looks bad because MAL has inflated values for Anime, something of which I am also guilty of.
However, when trash like Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute! is more highly rated than this one, especially after Episode 2 being IMHO a masterful episode, makes me question the sanity of the whole platform. Even IMDb has the NieR anime at a 7.9.
Kage no is a real trash and its score is unbelievably high, but it is actually really enjoyable (don't really understand why, I generally really hate trashy isekai harems and power fantasies, like Anos Voldigoad's anime, which is the peak for many as an enjoyable but trash show). Moreover, Nier's score will significantly improve if the later episodes will be at least on par with the second episode, but the first episode was really flawed on so many levels, so I understand, that its score is really deflated atm (considering the horrendous quality of shows with similar MAL score) due to disappointment.
Just look at One Punch Man S2 which was a huge letdown after S1, but its score is a joke if you actually compare the show to similarly rated ones, even S2 was significantly better than that rating objectively speaking, but disappointment generally deflates scores.
When it comes to score, I wouldn't be too concerned.
It had a rough start, but I think if the show keeps the quality seen in episode 2 for the rest of it, it'll probably end up better.
The early-season reviews on YT from channels like MB and Gigguk will probably spread attention about the rest of it being good.
And honestly, after getting over the disappointment of the CGI and a pacing that felt like it just couldn't contain itself, episode 1 wasn't that bad to begin with.

Though I'm a huge fan of the games, I do admit that the whole "robot has feelings" plot point is a bit pretentious. But I still think it's not annoying like Vivy for example. On that show you have A.I. that start to have feelings through the power of friendship or similar. Here it at least try to give a vague, but valid reason. But I do gotta appreciate that it wasn't a 1:1 adaptation and it will allow the show to be enjoyable.

Sadly, I have a 90% certainty this will only be a 7/10 anime. The other 10% are for either 6/10 or 8/10 depending on the execution. If we see more montages with no dialogue and focusing on the OST, like the city ruins scene, I think this can be a 8/10. If they try to adapt scenes too abruplty and ask the viewers to feel the same as the players (when the players actually experienced the scene with a better pacing) this can be a 6/10.

I think it definitely has the potential to be an 8+ anime.
I don't think we can expect things to be as abrupt and poorly paced in the future, like episode 1 was, because it looks like it's going to be a 2-cour show.
And the first episode basing itself around adapting the Abandoned Factory Descent mission was bound to be a disaster anyways, because that mission has very little actual story substance and like 3 bossfights against nameless enemies.

Edit: I'm still kinda salty about the fact that they removed one of the bossfights (arguably the coolest) and added the flying battleship, which adds basically nothing except the fact that it extends the CGI part of the episode.

Is good that they don't try to recap everything. Love the new scenes and the side of things that aren't shown in the game. Wonder if that's how Emil became given of the hints.

Switching between different locations and perspectives was a good touch. The inclusion of the game music was also very well timed and put. The animation was very nice. Generally another great episode.

Agreed, clunky CGI aside first episode was passable, nothing to sing praises about but also not as terrible as some make it out to be. The problem, indeed, is that first hour of the game serves mostly as an introduction and gameplay tutorial, I guess they could have fixed the pacing issue by stretching this introduction segment to 2 episodes, but then we would have had 2 whole episodes with virtually nothing that important happening, at least lore-wise. It's after the introduction segment when the game picks up, too.

If this second episode is anything to go by, seems like a faithful adaptation of the game with anime-original content that fleshes out an already existing story is the best way to adapt it, and if they follow this formula, this will turn out very good.

The introduction to the story is nice, but it's annoying that they do it with CGI instead of drawing the animations. I hope this doesn't happen in the new episodes.

Much stronger episode. First one was fine, just a 1:1 adaptation of the first mission. I thought they would be diverging from the Game eventually. I think they are really getting the feeling the game was able to capture and I think this anime will tell in interesting new story.

I could not stand Kage. Maybe that's on me, I had to drop it after some episodes. I honestly don't know how it is now.
And I agree, if A-1 continues to deliver like they did this episode, the score will certainly go higher. However, how the score is now, already feels that it is coming from undeserved hate, even if Episode 1 was weaker, which is something I half expected to be the case, as while the game is awesome from the beginning, it only got me really hooked some 2 or 3 hours in.

I see, so Humans got invaded by Aliens that used Robots to destroy the humans and forced them to move to the moon. Then Humans created the androids to fight the robots.

But... where did the Aliens go? and why didn't they go after the Humans that went to the Moon?

Assuming the Aliens have space ships (otherwise how did they get to Earth?) and I am sure if the Robots are strong enough to drive Humans away from Earth, they should be able to travel space and to the Moon.

Kinda weird plothole here, LOL

___ ___ ___

And then we watched Robots making more Robots, is this Elon's Robotic future? LOL

And somehow... the robots are reading and watching old human books and TVs to learn about Humanity, huh...

So they destroyed the Humans, and now they want to become like Humans... totally makes sense. (tho I think the robot malfunctioned and isn't taking orders from the "HQ" that we saw when the robot was just restarted (and their eyes turned from red to yellow))

And the "radio" mentioned the ppls on Earth are androids while Humans are on the Moon.

"A declaration to android struggling on Earth... ... For the several hundred thousands humans on the surface of the Moon"

Huh... at first I thought those were actual leftover humans that didn't escape to the Moon... (and it's been centuries? where are the Aliens?)

___ ___ ___

LOL @ 9S getting flustered at 2B when she said his voice calms her. awwww.

Tho... kinda sad that the Flower-loving robots was destroyed by the evil robots. sadge...

BTW, how did Humans lose against these robots in the first place? (feels like these robots can be easily defeated, it's not like they're "Terminators" or anything...)

Your questions would be valid if you asked these at the end of the show, but you cannot get answers in the second episode of a show, that has some mystery elements to it as well, none of your questions are plotholes. You will have your answers with time.

Additionally, the biped robots are certainly pretty shit, but they are mass-produced in old, human factories from the available materials by similar primitive robots. There are far more dangerous and more advanced weaponry as well (obviously few in number now), but the war was waged for hundreds of years now, with seemingly little outside support and material from the aliens home planet, so the machines have to scrape by on Earth with what they have, to follow their programming and be victorious.

Now, this was very fucking good. The robots there naturally changing their mode to neutral and cultivating a flower field was beautiful to see whilst also displaying the evolution of the machine lifeform.

It's strange though that the aliens just destroyed the humans instead of stripping the planet bare of its resources. I wonder if the aliens are machines or biological lifeforms. Maybe they're humans themselves...
