It was cool the way Raphtalia and Filo took down the Spirit Tortoise.

Just when they thought they finally defeated the Spirit Tortoise, Ost just had to ruin their celebrations in an amusing way.

Okay, we've established that a lot of the story has been cut, and I get why. If you're into the story and read the novels, you don't mind the training arcs and such, but it can be boring in an anime. But this feels so wonky, I guess is the word I wanna use...

I'm glad I'm a novel reader, and I feel you need to be a novel reader in order to get any sense of what going on. Things seems to be all over the place, not only in terms of the story telling, but also in terms of cinematography. Some shots doesn't seem to make much sense and could be easily cut, while other would are missing. Just a quick line or two from someone saying something about something to explain why events unfold, or simply show it on screen. It feels so messy, almost like if it was a film student or something directing it.

I don't want to trash talk it, because I love this series. But some of the creative decisions just seems so strange to me. There is also so much cg, and it looks terrible, at least some of it. The turtle looks to be lagging when it's moving, almost like it's made and programmed with less fps then the rest of the anime. It looks like cg in anime looked 3-4 years ago, and they've had much more time to work on it. Granted, I know many of the delays were due to covid, but still.

It feels rushed, and it's a shame. Granted, this arc isn't my favorite, and the author really starts hitting it home in terms of great writing around vol. 10 and onwards, after this arc is over. But I still feel it's being done a bit of a disservice.

My biggest fear is that people will drop the series very quickly, if they haven't already. And given what's been teasted in the opening, there is a lot of really good story to come. And Shield Hero is a really good story, it would be a bit of a shame if an anime adaptation that doesn't live up to the quality of season 1 in terms of production would be the thing that kills that buzz for the series. And unfortunately, I fear this might be the case, unless things improve very soon.

I totally agree, I had to explain what in the world was happening to a friend who hadn't read the LN and knowing what and why things were happening definitely helps the experience

After all the planning and the execution... it's still not over.

First of all, I'm not surprised that Naofumi took the lead in this entire strategy since he's one of the smartest individuals within the series, if not the smartest. Secondly it's sad to see how many people lost their lives during this battle.

My favorite part was the combo attack from Raphtalia, Filo, Naofumi, Oust, and Rishia in order to decapitate the Spirit Tortoise.

But still.... THE SPIRIT TORTOISE ISN'T DEAD?!?!!??!?! WHAT THE HELL IS THIS THING MADE OF?!?!?!?!

It's such a shame though. Granted, this arc isn't the greatest, but it deserves a lot more love and attention then it is getting. As a huge fan of the LN series, I want more people to watch the anime, fall in love with it and start reading the novels. The anime isn't doing that, it makes everything look like a mess. Anyone who might have been at the brink of wanting to give it a try after watching the first season recently as the new season was about to start airing, most will have been turned off from the series. The score of the anime has also fallen with each airing episode, not by insane numbers, but still.

maybe it's because it's been a while since s1, maybe it's because some story stuff was cut, maybe bad directing, but i had a hard time really getting into this fight, or feeling as much at stake as i could. i wouldn't say it was terrible, but idk lets see how the rest goes.

You can tell the studio does not like this turtle arc. The cast gets too big and we fall too far from the central cast, nor are their parts emphasized like they should be. And yet I guess it's integral to the story.

A big dumb turtle though? What was the LN author thinking? Bahaha. I hope this turtle plays into something down the line.

And decapitating it wasn't enough? Yeek.

That was an intense battle. Even if they cut off its head its still alive? Yeah, it shouldn't be too easy to defeat on this one episode.

The Shield Hero Party raises their banner to charge in alongside with all the available forces; seeking to inspire but also serving to draw the Spirit Tortoise’s defenses away from the others classic tactic.

Everyone plays a part with the various nation’s forces wearing down the Spirit Tortoise and our heroes taking down his familiars with Ost helping to even the odds with her gravity magic. Though the efforts of the armies seem to be ineffective even with their concentrated attacks they receive heavy casualties but thanks to the Commander’s sacrifice the advance of the Spirit Tortoise was finally halted.

But, unable to proceed it can now utilize its long range attack which has devastating results. Thus, the only thing to do is to close the gap by getting close to the Tortoise itself where it is avoiding launching its spike attacks. Thankful the mage forces are able to combine their magic to cast a spell that creates an opening for the Shield Hero Party. With their combined skills and efforts they are finally able to completely sever the Tortoise’s head emerging victorious but of course at the cost of Ost’s life . . . BUT ACTUALLY NOT!?!

As Ost is still perfectly fine and well; meaning that the Spirit Tortoise is not actually dead! Rishia’s reaction to her still being alive was pretty funny and cute. But, damn even taking the Tortoise’s head clear off didn’t kill it even after everyone’s efforts and sacrifices; I wonder what it will take to fully bring it down? Overall a straight forward episode; I wonder what will happen next and will our heroes’ actions bring whoever is controlling the Tortoise out of hiding? Guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Pacing is way too fast as of this episode. Character introductions and character moments feel way off. They never did have a sequence where Granny actually joined and the new characters just feel hollow.

Nice fight with the Spirit Tortoise.

Just when I thought "RIP giant turtle", it was revealed that Naofumi and his troops did not succeed actually in defeating it.

I wonder what's gonna happen next.

Great action scenes! It was lovely to see how the nations specialize in different styles of warfare and the once despised Naofumi led them to a victory. What was a little infurating was how slowly their party made up their mind and moved but then at the soonest convcenience Filo and Raphtalia just jump huge distances in seconds.

I don't think I'll ever like the use of CGI in anime. Looks so out of place.

It is a Spirit Tortoise. Can't defeat the supernatural through purely physical means.

The Queen can be seen like the Supreme Allied Commander. Wonder what role is Shield Hero in such context.

This arc feels like the scenery is based on Sino landscape. The tortoise is a whole mountain on its back shell.

I actually thought the turtle CGI was actually well-integrated lolol, maybe I'm just used to playing video games with that type of CGI ye, at least this isn't worse than that Arifureta CGI because a fucking turtle doesn't move as fast any other monster and at least it's a preparation to start and shove everything on Naofumi, also Raphtalia and Filo's taking orders from Naofumi was a pretty swift move and Ost is kinda cool when establishing that curse technique of hers. Also, Eclair is sexy hot with that armor and who is Eclair's VA, forgot to ask that lol. People seem to be conservative about Rishia's presence, I didn't find her that irritated in all reasoning.
@CQLLIST Definitly NOT, the CG for the Turtle sucks, look to the OP, where you can see it animated for barely a second, the part with the eye, a proper animated one would have been much more, but of course, lack of budget for it.

The OST was oustanding btw, its usage sucks but nearing the end glimpses of Kevin's mastery could be heard!

Ok, we've finally seen the spirit turtle, but my god the CGI. I mean, it's better than the CGI crap that Arifureta had? Totally, it's better. Not much better, but better all the same. I still have to say "yuck", for god's sake, I don't like CGI. The first season of Tate no Yuusha was infinitely better, why did the quality drop so much? Did they run out of budget? They took so long to release this season and they give me this CGI? I saw a lot of comments in this thread saying that the CGI was fine or at least not that bad and that's what they're happy with, FUCK, IT'S HORRIBLE. Let me ask myself, why do producers insist on using that kind of animation on big monsters? And why is it almost always used only in Isekais?

Well, leaving aside the terrible quality of the animation, the story is boring me a bit too, I still don't understand the purpose of introducing Ost Hourai's character or why Rishia is wearing a Filo costume. Maybe I'll figure this out later, but at the moment I'm confused and bored.

An episode with more action than the last ones, and it seems that the Spirit Turtle is yet to be destroyed.
However, I found the battle underwhelming and not exciting, didn't do much for me honestly. Also, the plot of this arc is making little sense, and the new characters are not interesting. Not enjoying this new season as I thought I would, it lacks the depth in the story and double-sided consequences of what happened, like in season 1. Also, the pacing seems off.
Let's see if this gets better as the arc goes on.
