The girls look like having a crush on the MC while the other 2 love the black hair girl.... Or maybe it's just a lies.... Still on episode 2, can't suspect someone yet since it might got some plot twist. But the MC sound and reaction after her confession is funny.

I have a doubt. Sawaragi says that her current debt is 7,600,000 but if I recall her turn to made the question was after her debt increased to 8,000,000 so she should be at 4,000,000 after her turn and now be at 3,600,000 like everyone.

4,000,000 + 4,000,000 (cause she tried to speak) = 8,000,000 then she ask her question so her debt is the half 4,000,000 and the they won the game -400,000 so now she is at 3,600,000 like everyone.

Is she lying?

aren't everyone? they said that they have 3600000, it should be 1600000 (except Yutori I guess?).

I read chapter 4 of the manga and the anime miss some part of the conversation between the MC and Sawaragi. In that chapter Sawaragi says that her card didn't say anything about the reduction of the debt if they choose "No" so maybe she is lying or not but will know later maybe

Everything about this quote is accurate! such a dumb show.

no one would EVER agree to do this, I mean fuck 20 million yen is 160k usd and they are high school kids.

Kidnapped and gassed? then they give permission, hahaha ok.

The four people who would have had to agree to pay off the ones friends debts would be fucking saints, to do so. If that was the case than only the douche with the debt would be the betrayer.

Just such a ridiculous show, also confusing at times.

The comparison to squid games is an insult to squid games, in squid games all the participations were DESPERATE with their life situations and in the game they had the option to leave. They built the characters up and gave us some meaning to the plot before just throwing them into fire.

frustrating show, no investment in the characters.

Game rules are not clear and can be changed any moment. There is no winning strategy because there is no internal logic or even a pretense of fairness in the game. It is obviously rigged from start to finish.

In this episode loss/gain on game squares are not revealed in advance. Places are semi-randomly defined by some "observers". There is nothing to plan and no way to meaningfully control the flow of the game. It is absurdly unfair and players don't really play, they are just punchbags. Any additional amount of debt can be assigned to any of them at any moment. They should quickly run it to the finish ignoring ridiculous "debt" and then let the legal system deal with game organizers.

Figuring out who is "the traitor" is pointless. Betrayal implies that some player deviates from winning strategy that is good for everyone to gain something for himself. But with these rules it is impossible, there is no winning strategy. These people are not much of a friends to begin with and we know next to nothing about them. New "shocking" details can be revealed any moment for fake drama and completely throw off any attempt of analysis.

"Themes: High Stakes Game, Psychological, Strategy Game" - nope, nothing of these. Just a pile of random crap. I don't know why this thing exists.

You mistook the situation here. Indeed, everyone both get a question to half their debts so their debts decrease from 4M to 2M and with the win of the first game, both of them get 0.4M as a bonus and their debts now are 1.6M.
The problem here is all characters have the same thought or rather it's because the organizers want they to think that way that they are the only one to have their debts halved.
For example, from Tenji's POV, he might think he is the one with the lowest amount of debt (1.6M) and others all have the same amount of debt (3.6M). However, in reality the numbers are quite different than what they thought. Shiho, presumably has the highest amount of debt (7.6M) but actually, within the range of this episode, it must be 3.6M.
Anyways, you must continue to watch to know because the number of their debt is also a twist that will be revealed in those next episodes.

Bro just said one of the RELEVANT thoughts in Tomodachi Game. TG is a heavily MYSTERY genre. I don't know why there's no such tags/listed genre when the anime announced. Your concerns will be directly answered in the future LITERALLY. Also, welcome to Tomodachi Game! Based from your comment, you pretty much realize now one of the dark nature of the game. As I could see, you have concerns about "winning" the game. However, what does "winning" means in this game? You can easily and obviously gain the idea based from the name of the game alone, "Tomodachi (Friends) Game". As hinted by Manabu-kun, the only way to win the game is not doubt your friends, atleast in the first episode, but you get the point. You can just talk it out and cooperate with just the power of friendship among each other right? However, here comes the goal of Tomodachi Game since it's apparent in Episode 1: to destroy friendship. That I think is their general goal. By maintaining the friendship will make you won and beat Tomodachi Game, however, it will not be that easy as we see the nature of the games and the uncertainty of what those seems organizers are capable of. It isn't just "winning the game". There is another meaningful goal this game has, however, it will be told on the next episode. Specifically, the game is unfair but that doesn't mean you can't win the game. Being a GENIUS alone isn't enough to beat Tomodachi Game. In addition, you actually have to see through the deceits this game (or the manga/anime) is giving you. It's either what your seeing right now is too unrealistic or too good to be unrealistic. Yes, there is a lot of psychological aspect in this too. It already played the mind of both the viewers and first-time readers of Tomodachi Game since Chapter 1/Episode 1. Just again my reminder is don't be easily deceived!

Lmao, build the characters up, this just cracked me up. The MC is useless and didn't get any development at all and in the end, he still is a bad dad, bad person. The only reason he could win was because he wore a ridiculously heavy plot armor. Tbh, I think Yuki from Mirai Nikki was even more brave and stronger than him. I also have to mention that all the game of Squid Game are boring and unjust except the first one, Tomodachi Game instead might looks silly with the kidnap or something else like you said but at least, the author really did put time and effort to create some awesome game with psychological and strategy elements. I could give you a 5000 words essay about how poorly written of Squid Game is but yeah, this is Anime forum, not a Movie forum so I'm not gonna talk more about it.

Haven't you ever asked, "Are they really just DUMB or too good to be DUMB"? This anime is actually a MYSTERY genre. This is one of the strongest point of the manga. We don't have enough backstory of the characters because they are to be reveal further. Geez if the ANIME only put the MYSTERY genre here, maybe anime-only watchers have different approach on it. As a manga reader, when I read this part the first time, I really don't expect much backstory at first because I know that it's a MYSTERY manga, and revelations will be revealed later on.

I love me some mystery but whatever story you're telling if you don't get the viewers invested in the characters how are we suppose to care about them or the outcome? like why hang on to find the mystery when there has been no character development?

That's one of the biggest let downs fooor sure.

There are character developments. Maybe you're looking for a certain development. But actually there are character developments. Maybe not that much. Personally, I'm still invested even though there are not much character developments because of the curiosity and mystery of each characters have. In fact, the revelations of each characters' past got me really invested to them. By knowing a few things about them, really made me to stick and read the manga till the latest chapters. Also, it's still just two episodes, there are 10 Episodes more to show their character development more.

1) Pacing is still awful, a bit better than first ep. And yet again all the rules are just thrown at viewers, go on, pause and read them lmao. You have two seconds to do so.
2) That ending "cliffhanger" is so cringe, I just can't... oh no, she's SCREAMING and crying!! What a... twist, I guess?!
3) Also Tenji's seyuu sounds kinda weird in a fightng scene. It's such a weird nitpicking but it kinda bothered me a bit.
4) Ed is banger tho. I like it. Both OP and ED are great.
5) I think I am going to re-read manga when the show ends, can't really enjoy the story because of all the rushing.
6) That's fun how my major concern was animation quality and it ended up the thing that bothers me the less.

I can appreciate that, I'm sure the Manga was done a lot better!

I haven't read the Manga so I've got really zeeeero information on any of these characters, which has lead to my zero investment. I'll give it one more episode but I predict this show is going to see a TON of people dropping it.

A couple interesting things
- I think it's funny that Tomodachi Game is written in hiragana (ともだちガ厶), instead of kanji (友達ガム), as if to indicate the incredible childishness of it all.
- I like that Mabuchi changed his voice for his different personas. I did think that his voice should have been deeper last episode, but a higher voice makes more sense for an elementary school student persona. Mabuchi-sensei FTW!
- Yuuichi proves to be a rat bastard pyschopath. Which is better than a meek pacifist Death Game protagonist.
- Love Polygon! Love Polygon! Can men and women ever be just friends? (or is it a trick???)
- I love the Gods' chatroom. They're so petty and so accurate to real-world chatrooms.
- "Don't worry. No one will betray us. We are all friends." That's bullshit, and you know it, Yuuichi!
- I love the use of CGI for Mabuchi. It really gives him this otherworldly, uncanny vibe. Is he a man in a costume? Is he a cryptid or some other supernatural creature? Who cares!

Looking forward to the climax of this game!

1 is one of my biggest pet peeves with this show, I hate having to pause and go back.

I believe we lucky to be able to pause and go back. Also as a Monogatari fan I'm super used to pausing to get necessary info. Lol

They may have cleared the first game, but Yuichi already plan the seeds of doubt as their firednship starts to fall apart. We are witnessing a love triangle between Tenji, Yuichi, and Sawaragi as the second game progress by saying something negative behind their backs. The plot thickens and I can't wait to see their continue to fall to pieces.

This whole anime is so god damn bad, the premise is just Kaiji but worse and just outright stupid. Someone stole class funds so now everyone has debt? Where's the contract? Where's my signature? How does this make kidnapping valid and legal?

I'm giving this a chance to ep3 but so far this has been retarded.
This is a Mystery anime and boiii your questions are SOOO RELEVEANT to the story! I encourage you to stick to this one. Your questions will be addressed later and everything will makes sense.

It shouldn't matter what the reason is, though. It matters that all 5 of them are going along with it. What kind of person is just going to accept these random claims of here's a debt and a bunch of arbitrary often revealed on the spot conditions for it to go up and down? That would only make sense if they're all in on it in some way. In on it and not feeling any need to pretend they're not by questioning the premise. Which I guess would mean they're in on it and know all the others are in it, and there's going to be some huge turn around where the five of them are running the game and all their fighting was a trap to get the two girls watching the cams? Okay, I'd be impressed if it pulled that.

Not to mention all the borderline magical stuff like the minority following coin, the writing in the sky, the light up spaces, and the animated cartoon character.

The comparison to squid games is an insult to squid games, in squid games all the participations were DESPERATE with their life situations and in the game they had the option to leave. They built the characters up and gave us some meaning to the plot before just throwing them into fire.

frustrating show, no investment in the characters.

Pile of crap. Random torture of bunch of innocent people for no reason whatsoever.

Game rules are not clear and can be changed any moment. There is no winning strategy because there is no internal logic or even a pretense of fairness in the game. It is obviously rigged from start to finish.

>Squid game is good
>Tomodoachi game is not good and one of the reasons is the game being unfair
>Implying that squid games were fair
Squid game games had some of the most aggrevating death games in the history of its genre, the glass brigde game was literally designed to be unfair for the spectator lolz

This second game is more exciting than the 1st one, as you can see, their secrets are being revealed... and this one is testing their friendship so much that they are indeed arguing already...

whose telling a lie and truth among them?

i just love this series

Cringe Game, the anime.

Just binged the first two episodes. This anime is terrible, actually beyond terrible, it's trash. Characterization, dialogues, directing... all of it such low effort and low quality that it looks like it came out of a teenager's Tiktok posts. Everyone "Suki"s each other like a low budget soap opera scenario yet pushing a stupid philosophical point of "which is more important, the friends or money"

Characters are also dumb. I wish this anime was lives at stake kind of anime where they die, so we could see them all die as they deserve.

People scoring over 7 also have poor taste.

Now that we’re past all the corny set up and into the actual mind games it’s getting interesting. The art and animation still kinda blows, but it isn’t that important for the selling point of this series. I don’t see much of a reason to drop it.

I agree didn't quite enjoy the set up but the games themselves seem interesting

Well said, as many people often tell me "To each their own" meaning everyone has their own preferences and just because something doesn't fit your likings doesn't mean someone else wouldn't like it
