I just started the 2022 MRC and I have a question:

I'm a physical manga collector and almost exclusively read volumes officially licensed and published in English. Therefore, I'm usually far behind the most up-to-date chapters released in Japan/via scanlation. Is there any way for me to specify this for the challenge so I can use on-going English release manga even though I won't be on the most recently published chapter?

Thanks!

Yes, just make a note specifying you're reading the physical version, and you can just be up to date with that.
You do have to, however, be up to date with the latest physical release in that case, not just the latest volume you have.

(Users who asked questions before, I'll answer a bit later, this is just a quick answer.)

Hi can i please get a manga recommendation from one of the mods for item 95?

I don't have any preference for genre but would like for the chapter count to be under 200 chapters.

Hey!
About Death, Ai-ren, Akira, Ansatsu Kyoushitsu, Bokurano. :)

With the update of the genres and themes, I had a question about challenge 49:
(49) Read a Gender Bender manga.

The Gender Bender genre has apparently been renamed as Crossdressing, but the manga I was reading doesn't have that genre anymore...

Do I have to choose a new manga in the Crossdressing genre for that challenge or can I proceed with Kokoro Connect?

Pls don't write animeS or mangaS >.< // + <50 man(g/hw/hu)a not in MAL. // Join my >manga club< here!

You can proceed. :)

The long answer is that it's not like the manga is now about something else, this tag just doesn't exist in MAL anymore, but it's still in other databases, and it's still about it, in the end. Manga has always been valid as long as you can prove it.

I'm close to finishing my first run of the challenge and starting my second run, so I thought I'd ask ahead of time for something for (95) Read a manga recommended by any MRC staff.

I like horror, mystery, crime dramas, samurai and martial arts, and nonromantic slice of life. I'd also like a recommendation that isn't already in my PTR list, since many of the titles there are earmarked for Manga Reading Club challenges. Thanks in advance.

Hi. I'm looking for a MRC staff recommendation (#95)!
I like a lot of genres but maybe my bests are RomCom, Drama, Horror and Psychological.
I'm new in manga topic. Please recommend me mangas that you like very much. But not yuri or yaoi, at least not for now.
I prefer completed series with less than 10 vols.
Thank you so much :3

Thanks for the recommendations. I like various, I'm already reading Prunus Girl, the characters are interesting and the plot really intrigues me, I think it's something I haven't seen developed in the main characters.

By the way, about the challenge. Is there a prize for completing all the items (127 + free space)?

Hi there! You've got quite a lot of good manga in your PTR so it was a bit hard to narrow it down. This is what I came up with:

- Yagate Kimi ni Naru
- Once Again
- Inu x Boku SS
- Nijigahara Holograph
- Doubt
- Litchi☆Hikari Club

Hope you find something you enjoy!

Hi! Just have a clarifying question:

I know I can reread manga, but I'm unsure how to mark the dates for a series where I will reread the first bit but have never finished the second bit. In 2021, I read 13 chapters of Boys Run the Riot but never finished it because I couldn't find the other chapters. I recently found all 4 volumes at a local library. I want to reread chapters 1-13 and then finish the series for this challenge. How do I mark the dates for that? For instance, can I keep my initial start date on my manga list (11/4/21) but screenshot me adding in the reread chapters in my manga history to show I reread it during 2022?

You can do whatever you prefer on your list, but you should put the start date as whenever you start rereading it for the challenge. :)

Hello everyone , could I get a recommendation ? :D

Anything is fine , but I'd prefer to read josei , mystery and psychological (not longer than 50 chapters) .

Thank you!

Edit: (110) Read a manga used in one of the MRC badges of any year.
I have problems with #110 , where can I find it?

Quick question here! Hope it's the right place to ask ;)

Does a manga have to have at least 5 volumes for this particular entry:
"(18) Read a manga that started publishing in the year you joined MAL." ?
I just joined MAL a couple of days ago so I'm not sure if there is anything being published so quickly to have 5+ volumes in a single year

Hey! Good luck with learning Japanese. :)

It doesn't! That rule (5+ volumes) is only for manga that you started reading before this year, so anything you start now can be any length.

Hi everyone!
Can I get a recommendation for item 96:

(96) Read a manga recommended to you by another participant in the discussion thread.

Don't look at my PTR, I would like to read something out of my comfort zone, so preferably Romance, Josei, Shoujo, Historical or Isekai.
I'd prefer if it was something under 20 volumes and finished (even axed is fine, just not publishing or on hiatus).
Thank you in advance!

It's a leftover from the Choose Your Difficulty categories of previous years. You only have to pick one of those choices and erase the others.

Thin king about starting this challenge and one question, since I haven't done this in a while and I couldn't find it in the rules. What is the starting point for the manga I've read? Does it have to be stuff I read from the moment I start the challenge or can I use stuff I've read from earlier in the year. For instance, I read Goodbye, Eri last week. Can I use it for the One Shot challenge if I sign up today?

Normally anything that you started on January 1st of this year or later is 100% fine so yes you can use it, just keep in mind that the starting date of your challenge should be the date you started reading the first manga that you used in it, instead of the date you post(ed) in the sign up thread.

Pls don't write animeS or mangaS >.< // + <50 man(g/hw/hu)a not in MAL. // Join my >manga club< here!

I was wondering, with the genre/theme restructuring that happened since this challenge was made, does Magical Sex Shift count for the "Read a Gender Bender manga." item since it was split off from gender bender, or is does only manga tagged as gender bender count still?

Previously started manga is allowed (also starting from your current point) as long as you have at least five volumes left to read and complete it in 2022. If it is still publishing, you must finish it up to the most recently published chapter.

I was wondering, with the genre/theme restructuring that happened since this challenge was made, does Magical Sex Shift count for the "Read a Gender Bender manga." item since it was split off from gender bender, or is does only manga tagged as gender bender count still?

You can use both Crossdressing and Magical Sex Shift; if you prefer you can also use MangaUpdates' tag Gender Bender

I don't know whether this question has been asked but i am curious whether you need to start a manga from the beginning or are you allowed to start from your current point if you are reading it already

Previously started manga is allowed (also starting from your current point) as long as you have at least five volumes left to read and complete it in 2022. If it is still publishing, you must finish it up to the most recently published chapter.

Thank you
Also, in regards to your answer to the other person, maybe that rule should be rewritten in the rule post in that case, since as the way it's written now it reads as if you don't need to finish manga and only need to read five volumes.

Secondly, I would like a recommendation for challenge no 95. I like action, psychological stuff. Would prefer something that's finished and is around 75-100 chapters.

I see. Thanks for the answer.

No, sorry, that won't work. It'd pass if he was actually transformed into a fox but since it's just a mask...

I'm talking about that fox on his arm (main picture 1st volume cover - didn't notice him at first, too).

Hello, could somebody please give me recommendation for (96)?

I would prefer something that is not very dark and is completed. 20-200 chapters would be lovely, but it´s not a requirement.

Thanks
