The series has its flaws like dry parts, snail pacing, convenient plot twists (e.g. imperials turn braindead when iserlohn fortress is involved), and underdeveloped elements like the Terraists. Additionally the one causing the most grief to us viewers, besides the death of some beloved characters (I personally include the enigmatic and controversial Oberstein in this group seeing how vital he was to the plot), being the Narrator spoiling crucial events. Nonetheless for all my gripes, as a whole I still view this as a great series to follow with its many twists and turns on a true galactic scale, where I can see why it's praised by its many fans to this day.

it finally ends, reinhard goes out and so does oberstien. pretty decent ending, series has a bunch of really good moments scattered throughout the show but also a load of tedious moments. some of the character interactions and execution of emotional moments/deaths which were sprinkled across the series were easily my favorite part of the series. inconsistent animation is not too big of a deal to me, grand music and pre-2000s aesthetic of the show was top tier though. favourite character would perhaps be oberstein, i think he's the only one who was consistently interesting to me right from his introduction. good but definitely not the greatest show ever, as i heard- feels like a similar experience to when i watched breaking bad.

Beautiful and solid anime. Not a flawless one, but full of great elements done very well. I'm glad I gave it a try.
I also enjoyed the final episode and the way that the whole story ended like.

Outstanding in every way. The series transported me to space battle nirvana, at times made me feel like I was watching Star Blazers as a kid in the 80s again. Except a more serious version with strong political message and cautionary tales of both dictatorship and democracy. Another highlight for me was the amazing classical music. I added about a dozen songs to my playlist as a result. Even the cheesy OP song managed to pull at my heart strings. 10/10

Wow, I don't even know what to say. It really feels like I just witnessed something significant.

Keeping it to discussing this episode, I think Oberstein really did plan his exit like that, or at least accepted the possibility. He leaked info to the Church of Terra, I'm sure he picked a room other than the real one to supposedly be the kaiser's sickbed. He's a dog person, after all.

Speaking of the kaiser. We don't always go out how we want or deserve, but if it had to be like that, at least he was with Hilda and Annerose and got to see his son. I think there was just a void inside him nothing in this universe could fill any longer. I think the show captured the feeling very well of what it's like to observe this kind of event, as it always does.

It was a wild ride, but I'm glad I saw it through. I'll have to pick up the gaidens sometime soon, but I doubt I'll ever see anything that quite captures this feeling ever again.

Awesome ending for an awesome series, Reinhard who dies after unifying the universe echoes the death of Alexander the Great and I find it interesting that a man who only lived throught war dies in his bed.

Great series 10/10

A beautiful ending to a beautiful show. RIP to all who fell in this dumpster fire of a conflict. Oberstein in particular got me by surprise, but it is really a fitting death now that all of the realm's political enemies are dead and buried. He really stood out to me as a character and I'm glad to see how well he was handled. This show has excellent writing all the way through. Feels sad almost to know that it's all over and I have to think about what I watch again though lol. Incredible.

Episode one to one hundred and ten, the journey was perfect. The wide cast of complex and well written characters is out of this world. The cast is a significant highlight of this show with each having there own journey. The story as well is perfect with many action packed moments along with deep dialogues between characters and how well written it is.

This finale episode was amazing with Reinhard von Lohengramm's beautiful conclusion, I really liked the music played. Oberstein also had a solid end and I really wanna know what was in his will, Rest in Peace to the both of them and all the other amazing characters we lost.

The final scene with Mittermeyer his wife and Felix was a masterpiece.

The legend ends and history begins.

Man what a satisfying ending!!! Overall, this was a nice watch. I can see why people lauded as a masterpiece, but for me there are large pockets of episodes that were just slow and making me fall asleep. I prefer a more modern anime style, so it was hard to watch some of these episodes with an art style I’m indifferent to. It’s not a masterpiece in my books, but I can definitely recommend this to others who may like this type of story and characters.

The payoffs were great and there were so many compelling characters. I definitely resonated with this world and story because so much of it is applicable to these crazy times where I am from.

I do want to check out the remake eventually because that seems to be more my alley compared to the original. Will be some time though as I need a breather to digest what I saw and analyze the entire story from start to finish.

Greatest series ever.

As much as I would like to do a quote post and leave it at that, I won't. I will say it was the only series to /actually/ make me cry manly tears and the only series that could manage to kill off my favorite character with an entire season to go and still managed to make me like it the same amount in spite of that.

I also have to admit that, much like Karin, I'm tsundere for Julian. I wasn't really that high on him early on in the series, but by the end...such a man.

Exactly my thoughts too.

I kind of wish Karin played maybe a bigger more vital role, but she was still cool and it was nice to see her warm up to Julian eventually.

I know its been years since you said that comment (holy shit more then 15 years). But yes, i wish she could do more, but that is life, not everywone will get big gigantic roles for narrative sake. I wish we could see her in the future with Julian though, but i will be real... I was never much a fan of Julian, but like you he grew more on me. But i think in this ending that we didnt see more of Frederica Greenhill, i feel she should had talked with the Kaiser or see her talking with Hilda. Would be so good seeing that.

And just finished the show, holy shit what a ride. FOr years in this place or other anime circles i heard of it, but i didnt had much interest. It was too old of a show when i heard about it (late 00s) and i wasnt much into politics and war and such. What did i miss all these years. But now im over 30, i think i watched in a perfect timing, i feel maybe younger me would like it, but not LOVE IT, like i did now. Its like the perfect show, most plot points goes somewhere and its so "realistic", for example Yang death, not some cinematic last stand or something, sometimes like and history is like that, disapointing, this show is full of that.

I feel Reinhard is inspired from Alexander the Great and King Charles XII of Sweden (Hilda father even mentions him), brilliant strategist at war, conquers all and dies young. Even Reinhard son was called Alexander.

Amazing show, if someone is into history and politics, this is the show. Even have a little romance, human society, duality of man. Showing how complex people are, for example Trunhint. In the end i left out thinking if he was just playing the role and was a true democrat republican to the end? On how despite people not believing in democracy can be good people and people who believe in democracy can be horrible people. Damn i just loved this show, i felt like watching a documentary, loved when the narrator was "in the future historians will *insert something about the character actions in question* it felt so real.

This is not only one of the best Anime ever, but one of the best stories displayed on any form of media.
