| THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- It's off to cram school for Yaguchi and Yuka, while meeting some new people and learning to draw faces from gypsum statues. The one prolific person being Yotasuke Takahashi a.k.a Sekai-kun, and his sculpture drawing is simply out of this world, even if this is his first attempt. An oil painting session, and the cross-dressing Yuka sure is outgoing, while their trainer Ooba-sensei gruels Yaguchi over his drawing that seems unworthy of Geidai standards. While Yotasuke and others like the braid-haired Haruka Hashida stood out for their individuality, Yaguchi is easily left behind. The damnation that Hashida deems Picasso as something beneath his level, it's the studious way of analyzing oil paintings at the Morzon Art Exhibition. Yuka acted like a girl with someone he was posing to have a date with, but even that wasn't working out. So what to do? Go for the lesser of the promise. A contest in Summer, and is what Mori-senpai has already surfaced with the ranking. With that many capable artists like Maki Kuwana, Yaguchi better step up his game if he doesn't want to be like Mori-senpai. It's a challenge to not miss the point. |

| Well, the cram school arc has begun. We're at chapter 6 in the manga. Yotasuke and Hashida are pretty much the two that stood out the most. I love their designs, pretty much the same as the manga. And Ooba-sensei is finally here! She might be a little harsh but she's one of the best teachers that you can get. And a pretty important person for Yaguchi's development. The other students in the class have experience from the past which Yaguchi doesn't really have because he started off late. You can see a huge difference between the analyzation from Yaguchi and Hashida. He's not fond of Piccaso's work. But his way of analyzing thing is very satisfying. Summer contest is going to be pretty hard. If you look at Hashida, Yotasuke and Maki. Then it's pretty hard for Yaguchi to get somewhere in the top rankings but we'll see. |

| Now they're at the cram school and now and Yaguchi is still learning stuff and boy does he meet some of the best in the class and saw their drawings. No wonder he feels like he's nothing in front of him. He needs to learn a lot but he's definitely improving. Another good episode IMO and I think Yaguchi has to do a lot more than that since there is a lot of competition in this field and if he wants to keep up with the best in the game in the summer contest. |

| wtf??!! i didnt expect that ryuuji was a guy ... i hope animation goes better for next, it seems much worse than last two episodes |

| Definitely a lot better than the previous episodes. Still felt rushed at a lot of points (when suddenly he thought about painting while painting the stuff and the next second they were already appraising the finished paintings) but the other chars and the trip to the museum ... made it more interesting. Especially liked the guy with the long black hair. (Great and fitting voice actor!) But the other guy also was nice. And some competition upcoming. Now I'm looking forward to the next episodes. (Didn't do so before after only eps 1+2.) |

| This continues to be a bad adaptation. Not visually stunning and a pace that is way too fast. I can’t connect to any of the characters or their struggles because we have hardly built them up. The trans reveal would have been much more of a bombshell if Ryuuji was given more screentime and we actually got to know their character. I can tell the source material is good because I can sense a that a good story is in here, but this anime is not good. I’ll give it another episode and go from there. |
| I liked the new characters that the rivals are joining and that are not eccentric at the level of exaggeration, the competition is starting and we were able to get to know the character of Ryuuji more. It shows that he is a man and that we could see her wearing pants and short flannel |
| oh this was so nice, great to see yotasuke finally. and hashida!! time to get serious. yuka dealing with any of that hurts me, its so sad bc they deserve better. good episode, cant wait for the next |
| I've just caught up and... on the animation department I guess I expected more from the trailer. Maybe that will come later but for the moment all those tips about art may make the ride worth the shot. |

| Yaguchi has a lot of competition. Ooba sensei seems to be a strict but kind teacher also. Ryuji is transgender it seems also. Looking forward to the next episode! |

| It doesn't seem like the pacing has improved much since last week. But I once again liked the story Yaguchi seems to be the type with a lot of potential since he's the protagonist and all so I can see him fulfilling it and becoming much better later down the line |

| Aaah here we have our first proper trap of the season, Ryuji. Almost had me...but I got suspicious, my experience in anime has taught me well of the signs. I can't get enough of the opening, so catchy. |

| So the anime seems to be doing it’s own thing. This ep adapted some of chapter 4, while cutting out a lot. And then the episode jumped to chapter 6 and adapted all of it. This even included some of chapter 7. What happened to chapter 5? Well, episode 2 adapted most of chapter 5. But in other words, the anime is just rushing through the manga, picking what parts the director wants to include, and cutting out so much. As a result, the pacing is soooo rushed So we get the “big reveal” about Ryuji, even though it was clear from the start they are a teenage boy cross dressing. In the first chapter of the manga when Ryuji first appears, one of Yahuchi’s friends refers to Ryuji as the “cross dresser” but the anime left that line out. Also, the subbed version I watched for this episode was slightly different compared to the manga. Like, the manga didn’t use “transvestite” and the manga used “love” instead of “liking.” Be curious if the Netflix subs will be different, because these fansubs totally changed the context of the conversation The anime continues to be pretty mediocre. The visuals haven’t improved much. Ryuji looks so much prettier in the manga, where as in the anime he looks so dopey because of how badly drawn he is, due to the artists keep keep drawing him off model. Because of the list visuals, it totally takes away from the emotional weight of the story. Also, the lack music is still weird to me. And when the OST does kick in, it’s not very good? So while this anime is still watchable, the only reason I haven’t dropped it yet is because I’ve been reading the manga, which makes up for the mediocre anime. I don’t enjoy being so negative towards this anime, but there is really not much I can say positively about it right now |

| Okay episode, although the pacing is terribly fast. This is one of those anime adaptations where watching the anime is way faster than reading the manga due to how much content is skipped. The scenes are so erratic with the weird/abrupt transitions, it's like they're only cherry-picking which scenes to adapt by how much it advances the storyline. All the important character interactions and art concepts are missing. Which essentially is like what Yaguchi did for his paintings in this episode. Painting/adapting the parts in a superficial and surface-level way and not getting the core components. The awkward animation doesn't help. Well I still enjoyed the episode. So many new faces popped up. Hopefully the animation would improve at least. |

| People seriously need to pay more attention. Ryuuji (Yuka) was already hinted to be a guy since the beginning. Anyways, pretty decent episode overall. Yaguchi is struggling quite a bit to find the essence of his art and the sequence with Yuka opening up to him was indeed quite touching. |
| Wasn't too happy with this episode, pacing was way too fast and the animation seems to keep getting worse. Dropped my rating for the show from a 7 to a 6 |

It was an interesting episode. I really like Ryuji, she is so beautiful. The new two characters are also interesting, especially this guy xD  |

It just doesn't feel realistic to me lmao Though I do like the addition of the guy with the pigtails, I hope we get to see more of him in future episodes. The girl with the black and brown hair too. She literally said that she would die if the society does not accept her wtf Also I've read the whole manga, she identifies as a woman but it's portrayed as she's crossdressering to be liked by men and not because of gender dysphoria I mean, dying if society doesn't accept you isn't a thing that only applies to trans people, it applies to the whole lgbtq community. And that's fair, I have no clue how she's portrayed in the manga. Either way though, if the creator is trying to portray Ryuuji as a trans woman I have to agree it's a bad take since I'm pretty sure trans women aren't trans because they want men to like them and it just kinda reinforces misinformation about transgender people. |

| Could relate to Yaguchi in the beginning. It's like entering a new gym with many dedicated people. The atmosphere is contagious and motivates you to work harder. Then you notice the few gifted people xD Talent is certainly op, but I also liked that they brought up the importance of subjectivity and expressing onself. If you got passion and a vision you just gotta be yourself. Embrace your style and some people will recognize the beauty in it. Yaguchi is obviously still an newbie exposed to overstimulation and has yet to find his true style beyond just telling what makes other styles work. He has to implement the gained knowledge his way. It's ironic, he made the first step to do what he wants, yet he's limiting himself again. Ayukawas's struggle was also interesting and I like the new charas. Pretty engaging watch so far. Now I'm curious to check out the manga since it suppsedly offers more in depth character development. |

| Ohh! Ryuji is a guy! Well, like what they said, it's normal. This episode shows us that Yaguchi has still so much to learn about painting, about arts. Other people on cram school are obviously experienced, compared to him who is kinda new. He definitely needs to find what he actually like to be able to produce great paintings; like what Ooba said, there's something missing on his art, that's probably "him" / his own touch or personality.  |

| Hm... I don't know how to feel about this show. It has great premise and some interesting characters & themes to explore, but seems to be inhibited by weak directing. I'm gonna wait for one more episode. If it's not improved, then I'll switch to the manga. |
