That was a nice slideshow
Let’s hope they put the budget in next weeks fight because if that one also looks like this I’ll just lose hope

The commitment that Mirio put in to rescue Eri was amazing. R.i.p his quick. Also Toga's and Twice development was pretty good.

fire force was already schedule to be 2 seasons from the begnning wasn't it?

your second point is invalid though because the last remaining chapters of Mob Psycho usually have 100+ pages per chapter right? so they can do a whole 1 cour

as for Fire Force ye but this season there is this incident about an original anime (tennis show) that got cancelled midway through lol so no anime is safe anymore even if they are planned ahead like Fire Force was even given a good 6 months just to return for the sequel

1. More like 30 to 60 with not much really happen in those chapters other than slice of life and brocolis, let's not forget seaosn 1 and 2 adapted 92 chapters of the manga

Is it just me or was this episode pretty weak visually ?
I mean the final clash was just a slide show and the animation in the entire episode was rather limited, also correct me if I m wrong, but did they reuse that shot of the glowing fist from the earlier seasons?

Nice episode! Mirio unstoppable and put up a fight even without quirks! For those think he's going to be disposed of the series, he won't, so you can chill.
But for real, the episode gave me goosebumps.
BUT, it's a shame that they done a slideshow at the end of the episode. Like, what the fuck, Boku no Hero is one of the biggest franchises right now and they do a slideshow fight? Come on, I was expecting to see Overhaul getting his ass kicked by a quirkless boy. Very disappointing.
And they also cut a lot of the flashbacks, and the best part of it. Nighteye saying he could be strong, the Big 3 friendship, everything. To be honest, I was expecting much more from these moments.
Also, in the manga, they kept track of time, so it's explicitly said Mirio fought with them for 15 minutes, 5 which he was quirkless.
Nice episode, but it could've been so much more it makes me sad.

Go back and watch the damn episodse you damn retard , yes unfortunately it's true ,

Not to metion this season has been plagued with a bunch of still frame shots at important moments and now this slide shit show , i wasn't specting sakugas everywhere but some kind of animation would be good because if i wanted to see still images i would just read the damn manga

This is why nobody takes you idiots seriously because nothing you say is supported by facts.

I know I'm supposed to feel emotional but every episode feels the same this season. Some inspirational internal dialogue about the meaning of being a hero (feat. some flashbacks) and yelling about being a hero while fighting with the enemy and repeat.

I feel sad for Mirio even though I was expecting this outcome. The foreshadowing was very obvious.

Eri should use her quirk against Chisaki.
If you read Eleceed you're automatically my friend.

So, basically, the whole plan of Chisaki resolve around the quirk of Eri.... and the bad guy decide to "shoot" Eri... with the medecine who "eliminate" your quirk. Make senses... I just like to imagine what would have happened if Mirio did not manage to get in front of her in one second.

I assume Chisaki would have killed the guy (or maybe torture him first).

But, anyway, don't worry, our smart villain know the hero will "save the girl". Well, considering that :
- Eri does not really need her quirk, actually, without her quirk, Chisaki will stop using/torturing her,
- Mirio without quirk could die before rescue arrive and then you have Mirio dead and Chisaki get away with Eri.

Well, seems like there was actually no reason for Mirio to "take the bullet".

Sure, that makes a nice scene and everything, but, I'm not really conviced about this. If you want Mirio quirkless, just have him protect Eri from some stones falling which covers the whole surface so he can not protect Eri otherwise and then when he is on the floor, just shoot him. It would make more sense (at least for me).

I am going to say something weird

The "Animation" part is just a part of an "animated" show, not the most important one. If people only care about animation then there is no reason for this medium to exist, or to create interesting story/characters who actually *Blend* with the animation style
Gintama doesn't have crazy animation, and it doesn't need it(Crazy Sakuga would ruin it)
Am i trying to be defensive? No, i don't even think i am a huge fan of MHA, i am just tired of people whining about animation, from OPM S2 (negatively) to Demon Slayer(positively)

Were S2 and S3 animated better? Yes
Do i care? No

What about the episode?
Like always, i watch MHA for the writing, world building and storytelling
And, like always, i liked all of it, Mirio is a great character and some consequences will be felt
Animation wise? I thought it was good, especially the slideshow part, a quirkless guy shouldn't fight with cfazy flips or incredible action, he is just a normal dude, the most important part was the meaning behind it

i agree with what u had said here :)

Finally, an episode worthy to be compared to S3 1st cour. Although you can really tell it didn't had a really big high stake as the events of that cour, and the static image mid fight killed the mood. I belive the director knowing this would happend really focused on the best thing MHA has to offer: Yuuki Hayashi soundtrack (which by the way, also finally showed so amazing OST for this season). Even if the story wasn't really intense, the soundtrack make the whole episode breathtaking

So seems like this arc is going too last only 13 episodes or 14. Does that mean they adapt , Remedial Course, USJ Festival and part of the pro hero arc ? And end on a cliff hanger ??
Shows Endeavor becoming #1 Hero
Maybe it ends with him fighting High End. Think that should be what they adapt last

Lemillion, the hero in all of us. :(

Great episode, I'm with a lot of other people who mentioned this episode deserved so much better. It was the biggest moment of this arc, watching Mirio fight against Chisaki and eventually giving up his own quirk just to protect Eri after working so hard to master is own quirk is the single biggest act of self sacrifice in the manga, perhaps till date. It was emotionally charged and full of heart and while I won't say that it was completely butchered, it was great and emotional too, this episode needed more of that Bones touch that we've been spoiled by thus far in the series.

I wonder if Bones had to devote people to the movie resulting in what happened to this episode. :(

That moment where he shields Eri with a smile on his face and gets hit. T.T

Here's to hoping the following fight against Overhaul gets the sakuga it deserves.

1. Mob psycho bombed in japan
2. they will not make a season shorter than 12/13 episodes and there isn't enough material for that (the 2 Ovas are possible but again the anime bombed)

disc sales are irrelevant now lol Mob Psycho is big on international streaming sites like CrunchyRoll

Megalobox, Dr Stone, Fire Force did not do well on disc sales there in japan but they all got sequels thanks to legal streaming profit

International streaming alone isn't enough of a profit to warrant renewing an anime unless those sites contribute directly to financing. Besides, I wager illegal streaming is still the dominant form of anime consumption.

I don't know about Megalobox but Dr. Stone and Fire Force are ongoing Shonen and they never sell as anime. For Shonen, the anime is mere advertisement for the actual revenue generator - merchandise and manga. That's where the bulk of their profit comes from and what incentivises manga publications to contract the anime studios to produce more seasons.

They waste the animation budget on pointless flashbacks and make the fight a fricking slideshow, the production of this season is laughable.
How did the manga editor allow this to happen! All of these flashbacks should've happened earlier, not in the middle of the fights!
I put up with this for the last few episodes expecting Overhaul's fight to be the selling point of the season (since it's the only thing that had any build up so far), but apparently it's just as bad as the rest of the season.

I liked the episode... but I agree, the fight deserved better.

It was fine, sure. It certainly wasn't bad animation, and not even in the 'can't have bad animation if there's no animation' way, either. The direction was disappointing, but the art and soundtrack were up to snuff. It delivered, it got the point across, it was perfectly adequate as a fight scene.

But, come on. This is the emotional highlight of the arc, and 'perfectly adequate' is what we're settling for? Nah. This should be where the creative team puts in all their effort to improve on how it was in the manga, because this is the moment that people should be thinking of when they think about this arc. Yes, I know it's basically just Horikoshi skipping over the rest of the fight and going, "This, but for five minutes" after Lemillion gets shot. That, to me signals a grand opportunity to really showcase how he's fighting without a quirk, how he's still holding out two-on-one, and really sell to the audience what's going on through visual means.

That they settled... I'm not happy.

It's a shame, because this is one of the best arcs in the show so far, but it's been let down by the direction and by creative choices beyond its control. What I'm saying is, this is the One Punch Man S2 of BNHA.

sure although BONES studio is part of the production committee of Mob Psycho and they are high up there in the ownership rank

China is another legal streaming profit place and im sure Mob Psycho is doing great there considering MAL stats says Mob Psycho 2 got 300K+ members and we got a lot of Chinese users here on MAL from the looks of it

i notice that if the member count is 250K-300K (out of 6 millions members currently) for an ongoing anime its considered popular already across the anime fandom

Ok, can I ask why some people here are being so harsh on this episode because of just the slideshow part? I don't really get it TBH. Apart from that part, the episode was really great overall, majority of the fight between Mirio & Overhaul was pretty intense, having solid/genuine tension throughout, having a ton of well-animated high-speed moments. Yeah, some cool sakuga in that part instead of the slideshow would've been great, but that doesn't take away that the remainder of the episode was really solid in terms of action, animation & intensity.

This recent negative hate bandwagon against MHA that I've been noticing in the last few months is really sad for me to see as a big fan of this show, I feel like that a lot of the hate in general is really undeserving.

Sorry Mirio, you're not this series main protagonist. You're a side character and your screen time to shine is just ended. Deku is the MC so of course you're gonna lose. It's plotted for Deku to fight Overhaul.
But what's up with that animation. Why the slideshows? Movie? No! Mirio deserve better fight scene than Kirishima since he's top 1 student and against the main antagonist Overhaul.
Also, I still see unnecessary insert of flashback. For example, the part where the villain shoot Eri does not need a replay of what Mirio said before. It's already predictable based on his quirk. At least give him a fight scene he deserve if he's gonna lose.

It's not one of the best episode like people say it is. Bone need to step up their game.

I’m a big fan of the show, and its hate is sorta justified. The arc is dragged out wayyyy too long for its own good. The exposition should’ve been shorter and the way fights are planned out and animated make it shy away from the quality we’ve seen in previous seasons.

Upon further reflection, I feel that Mirio losing his quirk is a cop out. Now Deku won't have to prove he's worthy of One for All because his competition is gone. Would have preferred it if Deku had proved himself on his own merit. Unless I'm wrong and there are still complications about who deserves to be All-Might's successor, I'm a tad disappointed.

Exactly. The sad part is that this episode actually did have pretty solid choreography and animation for the most part during the Mirio vs Overhaul fight, characterized well in the several high-speed moments.....apart from that slideshow part. And that technically wasn't even bad animation, because instead of some sakuga they just put a slideshow of images in those brief moments...that's all. Yeah, some sakuga during that part would've obviously bee better, but some people here are ignoring that the quality of the remainder of the episode was pretty solid, whether in terms of action, animation, intensity or tension.

Anyways, I'm also hyped for the next episode, hope that they're are saving some solid sakuga for the Deku vs Overhaul part.

Well....nah. Mirio is great, but Deku has gone through a helluva struggle and hurdles in the process of properly master One For All, having to suffer so many broken/busted bones for the sake of it. He is totally deserving of it. ;)

People expect better from what's been toted as "the best shounen in years", especially from a studio that have absolutely nailed animation like Bones. People just have higher standards nowadays (as they fucking should considering this was supposed to be one of the biggest highlights of the arc, making it a fucking powerpoint slideshow was unacceptable)

This episode managed to make me both hype af and sad af, knew it was coming but knowing what's to come never makes it any easier. Animation wise sure it was a bit underwhelming but it wasn't as bad as it could have been but also nowhere near as good as it could have been but that's how it be sometimes.
PS: in the manga Toga makes a face that's waaaaay lewder looking when explaining her quirk it's almost pure Ahego

Nice powerpoint presentation by the way.

For those who say the animation is not important, spoiler, it is. Specially in my hero, which biggest moments were always a showcase of how nuts they can go in order to exceed the manga. The anime not only have to live up to the hype, but also be better by adding movement, sound, voice and a group of things that made the anime adaptation superior to the source material... or that´s how it was until the last season.

This has been the most disappointing season so far. Not only the manga readers hyped an arc that have been from mediocre to okay, with some villains that are even more forgettable than the League members, but also the emotional moments are not handled as well as before. All of those things are what make MHA stand out as a shonen, if they do not exist, this is just plain shonen with nothing special.

Also the fact that Mirio was nerfed immediately after he was introduced, and that Midoriya is going to be gifted in a few arcs only proves that this is going downhill. I expected a lot more to be honest, and specially about this arc, considering most of the best moments or panels in the manga have been adapted in a very unsettling way. The movie is definitively cutting the work, talent and budget, and S4 (which apparently is the best arc so far) have to pay for it.

Finally someone who says it how it is. It feels really weird considering Bones absolutely floored me this year with MP100 S2 having some of the best animation I've seen in general for the medium yet they've clearly massively skimped out with BNHA S4.

wtf, that great fight was shown in a slideshow manner
how great would it have been, how powerful it have been if the studio decided to bring the old director back and animate that precious fight
i am angry but the emotions were super high in this one
3/5 for not giving us proper animation
hey Horikoshi didn’t even give that fight panels so be happy we got what we did

They waste the animation budget on pointless flashbacks and make the fight a fricking slideshow, the production of this season is laughable.
How did the manga editor allow this to happen! All of these flashbacks should've happened earlier, not in the middle of the fights!
I put up with this for the last few episodes expecting Overhaul's fight to be the selling point of the season (since it's the only thing that had any build up so far), but apparently it's just as bad as the rest of the season.

Those flashbacks are canon the slideshow is anime original. They added those scenes that Horikoshi didn’t bother to draw to please the fans and all were giving them for their effort is shit and hate

Lmao, people are actually saying shit like this? It's fucking studio BONES. If they were going to put this little effort into making it an actual fucking slideshow they seriously shouldn't have bothered.

Not everyone read the manga. This isn't about pleasing the fan. The selling point of anime is its animation. If it's not for that, why bother anime adaptation. Just stick with the manga.

Did you see Bone's previous works on fight scene? (Ex: Fullmetal Alchemist, Noragami, Mob Psycho, Bungou Stray Dogs, previous seasons of BHA)

The adaptation shouldn't be too faithful that it doesn't fix the problems from the source material, they should've known better than to waste the budget on flashbacks when most of them could've been cut, and the slideshow doesn't make up for anything.
