Garbage. Pure garbage. This episode had the full package: Terrible animations & art (The “big” fight looked like a fucking slideshow), terrible dialogue & storyboarding, bad pacing, emotionless to the point that it almost feels like the characters have no soul, … I could go on for a while. I don’t think there are any pros about this episode. I can’t believe Studio Clown is insulting us like this. I’m done with this series.

Holy! That's the most diverse polling I've seen - all of them are in the 30's region. Woah.

I finally learnt that eccentric guy's name, Nimura; he such great character, I always thought that he's carrying a deep secret... The amount of time es he should've been killed. Such a great twist.
In other news, Arima is such a sore loser, just 'cause kaneki wasn't killing home he killed himself; sad way to see him -unless he's coming back to life or did he slice off his head.; I can't really tell (Hide. Please come back to life)

Are Anime-Only aware that Furuta was the one who made the bars fall on Rize and Kaneki at the very beginning of the story and that he is the clown "Souta" working with the Dr.Kanou who changed Kaneki into a ghoul ?

It's a fact that we normally know since WAY before and the anime didn't even mention it recently. It's such a shame.

Oh my.... solch eine verschwendung.

They are just rushing it like hell. I hoped they wouldnt but i should have known.
Only good thing is that touka, hinami and etoooooo are back! :D

But they skipped so much stuff that i am thinking about finishing the manga first after i managed to stop reading at vol 12.

it seems to getting worse with each episode.
I mean come on... was i the only one noticing that art style?

Am tempted to drop, but am committed to completion. Will definitely be checking out the manga in the future.

The last 2 episodes were devoid of everything I love about the series.

Totally agree with the committed part, Tokyo Ghoul would need to give me the plague or something before I even considered dropping it, but this is genuinely terrible. This episode was a bit of an improvement despite the lacklustre animation and poor character handling, but this is one of the best arcs in :re and pierrot could only make it average. I won't spoil anything cos you haven't read the manga (seriously, do read it at some point, it's worth it) but the arc they skipped and this one were real high points for :re and it goes downhill for a while from here. Root a definitely gets more hate than it deserves due to all the needless petty changes it made but it wasn't that bad without prior knowledge of the manga, and at least it wasn't totally soulless like this. They even messed up the TV edit for the op which is so irritating - it just sounds so broken and counterintuitive when the actual song is great. It just sums up how little effort seems to have been put into every stage of the process and while I will keep watching to the bitter end mostly just so I can complain about it every week I don't expect many people will do the same, particularly as it seems destined to get worse from here on out

Disregarding the fact that I have absolutely no idea what's happening, anyone else felt like the soundtracks were completely mismatching the action during the fighting scenes?

This completely killed any hype that was built during the episode, even more so, it felt like I was watching an AMV that had no music in it except for character voices and combat sounds.

Ken and Toka reunion was good but damn was it on bad timing.

It seems like this season is more focus on ghoul side of Ken, but his hair does change a lot like his personality. The shirigami was superb in this episode in fact he was my highlight of the episode.

I still don't get where is Ken's former investigation unit? It seems like they've been discarded somehow and I don't like it.

I actually like the two episodes so far quite a bit compared to the first re: season. Too many manga fans though complaining about the pace though when the 2nd part of the manga this is adapting from really went downhill any way.
The manga's plot only started to fall downhill after this (Rushima) arc ended, i.e. the Goat Extermination arc.
This arc is supposed to be the best thing the series could offer, but they decided to compress it in just 3 episodes, which also means they are adapting the utter garbage parts (rest of the manga) in 9 episodes. Pure excellence! lol

Only watched this week to see how they'd handle Kaneki vs Arima and I have several things to say...

>Episode scoffs over Kaneki being suicidal plot point within minutes.

>Episode censors the hell out of Kaneki's beatdown.

>Episode skips over Arima's "weakness" being his eye and why Kaneki even won in the first place(using sound from his Eto amped Kagune as a distraction).

>A dozen chapters condensed in a single episode with lackluster art/animation/storyboarding. Only reason I watched was because I loved Tokyo Ghoul and this was supposed to be the highlight of the series'... Dropped :P

Also, Ken's right hand looks just fine like new, despite being cut-off by Kanae before. More importantly, during the fight, his clothes magically regenerate too, following his body regeneration. lol
Actually, I agree with your points, being a manga reader myself.

FuMomo-kun said:
I had been looking forward to see the black reaper, and they cut out most of his scenes. Now, he is gone! Did anyone even get the chance to realise that Kaneki vs Arima was a fight between the white and black reapers?

The conversation between Kaneki and Hide had made me extremely emotional in the manga. I had re-read the scene multiple times. They ruined that scene too. Kaneki was supposed to look like a mess when he talked to Hide, but here he looks so clean and proper. The voice actors did an amazing job with the scene. They were better than I'd expected, but the artists were too lazy.

Why are Kaneki's severed limbs steaming? He isn't a titan! He was supposed to bleed.

Kaneki's limbs got healed quite soon. I can ignore that change, though it would have been nice too see him struggle to stick his limbs back.

Next episode, they're going to show some of the things that they have already spoiled in episode one. They could've just adapted it properly, and continued where the previous season had left off.

The revelation of the kings would've been a great way to end the season, but it looks like it would be over by the next episode.

The best parts about this episode were the voice acting and the music.
"What Black Reaper? There had never been such character in the series." -anime-only
Totally agree with your points. They seem to forget how ghoul is supposed to regenerate (shown in Season 1).
Like you guys have said, I think it's the very fast pacing to blame for all this mess.

Whaaat? It feels like an episode at 2x speed. The Black Reaper only lasted 2 episodes lol. At least Furuta was funny.

The other CCG characters are at Rue Island but I think that everything will be rushed like these two episodes. The sad part is that nothing is built-up or foreshadowed, things just... happen.

This is just a worst version of Root A.

As an anime only who has kinda lost interest in this show ever since Root A, these episodes feel so random moving from one point to another with almost no coherency. I'm barely able to follow the story, I have no idea who some of these characters are and well whatever I guess. I loved the first season of the anime, Root A was okay but it's been downhill since then.

Why is Arima supposed to be OP anyway? I have no idea why he's supposed to be so strong. I have zero clue on how Kaneki won, just looks like plot convenience to me. What are these powerups that Kaneki has? When did he get all those forms? I remember he had some weird form in Root A but it certainly didn't look like anything from this.

I have no idea who Furuta is and what his role in everything is? I get that he's supposed to be some sort of mastermind or something but that's about all I know.

The only reason I'm watching this is for best girl Eto, so when you cut down screentime on the only thing I want to see, you're kinda destroying the only thing I've been able to salvage from this show. XD

Well, it was entertaining in general, although Arima-Kaneki fight seems to be rushed.. I expected more hype, that's Arima himself!

I also wish the moment of Touka and Kaneki seeing each other could've been more emotional and heartwarming!
I know they're in a middle of fight, but I wish they could've made it more emotional somehow! Let's hope for a better moment in the future.

One thing confuses me, each time I see new characters I haven't seen before, without explaining their situation or who they are and what do they want? Maybe they're saving explanation for future episodes.. maybe at the moments they die!

Good lord, this is just terrible! Even the tv version of the Op is just so abysmal(why would you want to just butcher the whole song into the shortened tv version, it just doesn’t sound right duh!) , while the full version is actually a really dope song!

Not only did we see the end of Arima’s Fight with the trio early on, we also got to see what in my opinion was the most butchered fight ever in this franchise, Arima v Kaneki. It just didn’t feel like anything when all the fighting was on, it was just rushed and the story incoherent to the point where you couldn’t possibly feel anything for the Characters. Arima just slicing his neck in the end was like so out of place and boy rather hysterical, if you ask me. Clearly, Kaneki took more than sustainable damage throughout the fight and yet seemed more fine than Arima did xD. What was with the sudden power ups? It was just terrible! It made no bloody sense! Even the Hide-Kaneki scene which was supposed to be tear-jerking or at least saddening in some way was just thrown into the fray here and made it like a huge load of crap! I have no words, last Episode was quick as all hell but a little redeeming but this episode just absolutely blows that away.
This Season is definitely already even worse than the previous, ffs.
Seeing Tohka and Hina was the best scene of the episode, really touching to see that little scene between the two. Furuta just being Furuta was creepy but at least his character seems to be somewhat fairly interesting, I must say his VA is doing a really good job. Eto going down too easy was obvious from the manga but here it just felt like Eto was a weakling and nothing like that as we saw in Root A.

Really disappointing! I didn’t have any expectation or even the slightest hope for this show, but even then I’m honestly super disappointed. I couldn’t possibly think Pierrot would do this to such a successful and well-renowned franchise, but here we go. *sigh*

I really don´t know whether is it worth writing again what I liked and disliked.. I mean, the OP is great, seiyuus are great, music is great. Animation and story telling is shitty. I came back to the manga chapters from this episode and felt pure emotions. Here, nothing. Too bad. TG deserves much, much better.
And what is the reason to use masks if they call each other by their real names instead of nicknames? Kaneki´s legs are chopped off and he doesn´t even scream? And why came back to Rushima now? Nothing makes sense in this anime anymore.

I wonder why the studio does not take time and invests more capital and work into such great series. I mean come on there aren't that many great Mangas why do you have to ruin such a great potential 🙄 I feel bad for the author that worked years to his limit and here his work is ruined... Actually, this arc is the last bit of the manga where all of its pieces are interconnected, coherent, and tied neatly to the original manga. Every little development of the characters was explained clearly in the manga, some of which are spectacularly mind-blowing, even.

Well, look at what we get now. Yet a soulless adaptation with a despicable pacing and terrible animation, despite the 6-months break in-between the seasons.

Same here. I'm watching this mess just to see our best girl, Eto.

Extremely disappointed with the second espisode. Even the action scenes were badly directed and animated. The show lacks any sort of appeal in general. I got tired watching the episode.

If you look at it from an anime viewer perspective with no prior knowledge with the manga, you won't understand anything straight from Re. I honestly didn't have many hopes with this season. I mean still, Re: was still understandable to a point.

But this season is just jumbling things up. Too many plotholes that you have to fill with knowledge from the manga. It's incredibly ridiculous and annoying to watch.

I never expected to say this about Tokyo Ghoul, but the first two episodes so far have been complete ass. What a complete let down to the brilliant first season we were given. I can't believe the anime has fallen so low. Dropped the anime.

P.S. forget the manga, they've dumped so much material. I was expecting a much more powerful deliver of "Kaneki, see you later." I mean, that scene was just plain bland. The season lacks emotion and character depth and development.

Haven't read the manga, but it is so obvious that they are just racing through the source material like mad men. I've supported TG for a long time, I accepted Root A, while others thought it was trash. I honestly liked :re season 1, but this is just an insult to the franchise.

It's a sad day when the freaking mobile game has better animation than the anime. I thought they couldn't get worse after season 1 but looks like studio Pierrot is pushing the limit on possible incompetence. Also any idea why Kaneki sounds so dumb? It's the same voice actor as the original but he sounded much better in that. I get why he sounded like this as Haise but it's extremely jarring hearing him like this when he's supposed to be suicidal. I don't even know why I'm watching this. People are worried about Netflix ruining anime when this garbage should be the real concern. How can you be trusted to make a good manga when your given great source material and turn it into garbage? That's some fucked up alchemy right there. And Pierrot got the Danganronpa games creator's new project so no matter how good that should be Pierrot will find a way to mess it up. Ok rant over, the future is bleak.

It did. From my point of view Kaneki´s hair change everytime he is going through some near-death experience or existential crisis (name it however you want). Close to death due to injuries from Arima, he met Hide who encouraged him to continue living. And "reborn" with white hair.

They essentially cut around 10 chapters worth of detail and dialogue that was supposed to make any of this make sense. While it does happen in the manga it's supposed to be a much more impacting scene. The Arima vs Kaneki fight could have lasted an entire episode sadly they just rushed it and hoped you'd make sense.

But because I want to rant, the animation was horrible, Kaneki sounded really dumb for someone who was basically committing suicide, they basically cut all emotion out of this fight, they cut like 60% of the fight out, they censored the hell out of it, the music was extremely off-putting, the Kagune (particularly Yomo's and Ayato's) were completely wrong, they crammed in into 5 minutes when this fight probably could've been an episode long by itself, a pretty bad translation, and so much else. But your right if your talking about only re, this probably is the best fight in it and that's really freaking sad. If your talking TG in general go watch the Yamori fight, that was actually really good, but ever fight in the first two seasons is better than this one.

I think the explanation was essentially

Yes, but in this case I think color of the hair represents some aspects of Kaneki´s personality rather then scientific explanation :)

@Doots I agree with you. The scene when Kaneki awakens reminded me of a phoenix reborn from ashes. Pure beauty. If anything good comes from anime, it at least made me to reread the manga (again).

Anyone who has not done it yet, go read the manga. Seriously.
