Konosuba. Funny, Not Serious, Comedy in every Second of it. It has a few serious moments but it focuses solely on Comedy. Its anime you can sit back and laugh at without expecting much from.

So far No Game No Life is my favourite with KonoSuba and Re:Zero next in line

Once the Mushoku Tensei anime comes out then it'll be up there amongst them as well if they don't butcher it though

I haven´t seen that much of Isekai, but so far I would say:

Youjo Senki / Saga of Tanya the Evil
Log Horizon
KonoSuba
Overlord

Some people say Re:Zero and No Game no Life. I havent seen them so I don´t include them.

I'm a fan of Log Horizon, I like the style it goes for and the concept I think was what made it good. It made it unique and likeable since I hadn't seen anything else like it before

If you want isekai you should probably stop watching anime and start reading LNs and manga. The ideas are more fully explored and there's more variety. You don't rely on the producers picking something you'd like and adapting it well. Isekai can go in a lot of different directions, they range from the most absurd comedy to the most edgy seriousness. It really depends on what you're looking for, unless the "isekai" tag is all you're looking for.

Overlord is fantastic for DnD style world building and really gets across this vibe of "all my friends are busy and we can't play anymore, I'm going to keep this torch lit while I wait for them". If you've ever belonged to a community that fizzled out that might resonate with you. It's also filled with humorous insight about the inefficiencies in large organizations and how the intention of the executive can get warped by layers of middle management. I feel like this author really is pouring a lot of life experiences into this one. The anime misses a lot of good disparity between what people are thinking and what's happening.

Youjo Senki is like, it's like a psychopath who has properly integrated into the working world explaining why your human emotions are terrible and he's totally justified in his selfish ruthless behaviors. It's pretty convincing and gets across just how duplicitous and hypocritical humanity is. The main character is just as hypocritical and spreads just as much evil as everyone else, and I'm pretty sure that's the point. The anime misses a lot of God's perspective and the main character's manifesto-style justifications. That last episode though, that was perfect.

The one this season about the book girl, well it's source material anyway, does a great job portraying the miserable conditions and massive disparity of wealth in old feudal society. Also it does a good job properly showing how hard it would be to just go and invent things even when you know what you're trying to make. I don't like how bright and clean the anime looks but that's just a nitpick.

The one about mom coming along for the isekai adventure, that source material is hilarious. The whole thing is a brutal pisstake of the escapist fantasy of kids trying to escape their overbearing parents. Unfortunately the anime was a weak adaptation with awful comedic timing.

I could recommend isekai for days but it would fall of deaf ears unless I knew what you really wanted. When most people complain about isekai it sounds to me like an emotional kneejerk response. They identify as "a person with good taste" and have associated isekai with "bad taste". In that case there's no point making any recommendation as they will always hate the show.

No Game No Life is awesome, Konosuba is great (watch the movie!!)

I'm afraid MAL hasn't added anything like this yet... *sighs
Even AniDB has the isekai tag.

  1. Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi (best movie)
  2. Tenkuu no Escaflowne (best mainstream series)
  3. Ima Soko ni Iru Boku (best critical acclaim series)
All of those are still entertaining and relevant after nearly 20 years, some of them over 20 years.

I'm someone that generally doesn't care for isekai, but I'm really enjoying Konosuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World!, mostly due to its comedic value and it essentially being a parody.

I haven't watched them, but I've heard good things about Re:ZERO - Starting Life in Another World - and Overlord.

On a side note, I would say Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu SO FAR holds this title. It is almost there, trying to fight off its origins as a Japanese pop-culture in attempts to reach heights considered worthy of literary piece.

Re;Zero is Hot garbage,
NGNL is art,
Log Horizon is a great starter,
Konosuba is like Re;Zero if it was done properly and way funnier instead of cringe, Overlord is solid,
Gate is one I come back too often,
Reincarnated as a slime is interesting if you like monster development in Anime and RPG,
Death March to Another World is solid even though it gets hate for practically no reason,
Also SAO season 1 is the ONLY half-decent one, (if you don't want to see rape in the others)
Isekai Wa Smartphone is also like Death March and gets hate for the Main character, but still a nice show.

Except konosuba and Youjou senki almost all Isekai anime are really good. But if you want names then:
Sword Art Online by story
Zero no Tsukaima as comedy
Tate no Yuusha for progress of MC (not OP from start)
Gate Jieitai for idea
Kenja no Mago for enjoyment and epic fights

Drifters is really underwatched. It's by the same author as Hellsing so you know it's gonna be dark and gory.To have historical figures fighting each other in a fantasy world is really awesome.I completely enjoy that show. And lol Hitler as Drifter made me laugh my ass off

konosuba is pretty good, although it'll probably lose to kumo desu ga when that anime finally comes out
"I like young-girl sexual creations, Lolicon is just one hobby of my many hobbies," he says.
I ask what his wife, standing nearby, thinks of his "hobby".
"She probably thinks no problem," he replies. "Because she loves young boys sexually interacting with each other."

Re Zero Kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu.

Don't watch any spoilers or ANY resume at all. Just go in episode 1.

Truly a good Isekai with a much more realistic quality to it. Especially for characters and relations. Also the story develops all the time, that feeling is one of the most fulfilling ones with any manga or anime. And necessary imo for it to be truly good.

If you read a resume you will spoil yourself, just go head on!!!

Full list of what I consider the best isekai anime. Note that I'm excluding anything where a characters mind gets trapped in a game or something, since I consider those to be their own thing.

In no particular order:
Youjo Senki
Konosuba
Gate
No Game No Life
Re:Zero
Sheild Hero
Kiba
Drifters (I really want a second season if this)

Honorable mentions:
Reincarnated as a Slime
First couple seasons of Overlord
Cautious Hero

No, I'm not perfect, but I hope you see my worth

@mokkocchi Kyo Kara Maoh is one of the worst, it's all about a 82 year old hot gay dude harassing an underage straight boy to go gay for him. Familiar of Zero is yet another trash isekai that romanticizes abuse just like kkm.

Also Inyuasha is time travel not isekai.
