Fuck, scene with Tarou devouring his mother while his father cries in agony got me like nothing before in this series, I almost felt like throwing up ;( And of course Ryou is Satan, he was mad since the beginning, now I just hope there is some kind of God in this world as well...

... was that white light enveloping the world at the end of the last episode supposed to be nuclear weapons? If so, why was Ryo troubled by the use of nuclear warfare? Up to that point human extinction appeared to be according to his plan.

What the hell Ryo is playing, I can't understand...

Was Taro eating his mother? holy shit. Did she just... let him?

And it finally needs to be said, the credits music is grandiose, anthemic, and epic in a sort of way strikingly similar to Yuki Kajiura's compositions with PMMM and Fate/Zero. I love it.

Man, I knew Ryo would be the evil guy since the first time I saw him.
But what exactly is he??
A demon? Or perhaps... god? An angel?

Well, let's find out!

How Miki's parents ended up was so sad.
I knew what Ryo was up to from ep 1. You could tell by his actions throughout the episodes.

Welp, that was absolutely devastating. Even if I can see Miki's family dying from a mile away the moment they've split from each other and ran from the house, their deaths were more brutal than what I have imagined. Seeing his dad in agonizing shock trying to put down his demonized son who's been eating his own mother and failing to gain the resolve needed was very hard to watch in an emotionally stressful way and how he and Taro got shot down by the military so cruelly because he still tried to protect him was heartbreaking.

As if Ryo can't be a bigger asshole than he already is... He threw Akira under the bus and showed a butchered version of his attempt to save everyone from the demons who were trying to massacre what's left of the partygoers all the while confirming humanity's worst fears and manipulating everyone through the media by telling them to kill everyone who shows the slightest dissatisfaction with what's going on in the world. That rapper shooting Akira was a big no-no because if he really was a mindless demon this whole time, he should've eaten Miki long ago.

That ugly-ass secretary was an archdemon and Ryo's the ringleader all along...

Holy fuck was that an amazing episode. It started at 100 and never slowed down. Jeez, I really feel bad for Miki's dad, what fucked up scene to walk into. That wholesome family didn't deserve such a horrible end. And Miki and Akira's crying man, shit was hard to watch.

Fuck Ryo. Fuck him. I love how the show has been hinting that Ryo was really a demon/Satan all along. I remember that scene where Ryo is explaining that demons have zero empathy and have a need to destroy, while in the background it shows him at the party gleefully killing people. Really hope he gets brutally killed.

This got intense, really intense on so many levels.
I feel so bad for the father that had to decide whether to shoot his demonized kid or just sublime, what a horrible death that was, he was such a caring father and a nice person overall to pass like that, it was heartbreaking, hell itself for him to be in that situation, like, what the hell would you do?
I think it's time for me to drop my respect for Ryo once and for all, because that was just too much, what a horrible friend to unveil something on broad television and just after he helped Akira stay off the spotlights for so long, I can't figure out what's going on in his vicious mind at all.
All the stuff with that jungle tribe and him being regarded as a prophesized figure led me to believe that Ryo was never a human, to begin with, probably a hybrid, some kind of alien that descended from a far away galaxy, he's just way too different from kids his age for a human being, and everything with the Code-Geass-like flashback only emphasizes that further.
I have a gut feeling that Miki will be okay with Akira being a demon, but those other dudes surprised me, they were acting like such a group of wholesome bros until they pulled out a gun with what looked like zero hesitation.
All of those other devils came out from nowhere, that gigantic dude looks like the real deal he might just be a challenge to bring down, and that's not all, he looks like he's of a great leadership status to have all of the other minions follow him.

So, I criticized Ryou for his exploration last episode. And although I understand it's still cryptic here and not great for a first timer, knowing Ryou and coming back this episode was super well done in my opinion. With 'Beautiful Serene' it's definitely one of my favorites.

I still don't exactly understand why the government knew who he was and were even trying to nuke him though. How did that get out? Also to this point I still don't understand who was clearing up the evidence. Anyways I'll spoiler tag the Ryou talk since it inherently takes in knowledge of the end of the series.

As for Miko I understood that Miki influenced her before but now I'm seeing that I was right about the snapdragons dying. I think Miko realized that even when she was treating Miki as a mere object to surpass that she could step in and do more than Miko could ever do and further she was still kind to her. With those events I think the switch in her development went from "I want to surpass Miki at any cost", to "I want to become like Miki and emulate her", and through that we saw her try and act selflessly this episode. She tried to tell Miki what happened so Akira wouldn't have to and she rushed into the hellfire of demons to save him. Both remind me more of Miki than Miko!

Speaking of telling Miki what happened, this episode has some truly heartbreaking moments. This time the way the father asked "Why God?!" got to me. I always loved how you saw him struggle time and time again, wanting to shoot his son as a demon but being unable to, even sacrificing himself to attempt and protect him at the end. But the way such a man who preached love and devoted himself to God was breaking down and asking why on earth this would happen to him got to me the most this watch. Then of course Akira loses the only family he has left, feels he's partially to blame for getting there too late, and almost dies himself. That's one bad day. Now all he has left is Miki and Ryou and he's not liking Ryou recently. The moment Miki asks him how he's going to tell Miki about her family you can see on his face that it was his family too.
Later when he tells Miki and she walks away and both start bawling has always been one of the standout scenes for me. It's a moment of pure loss and misery and I think it's captured well.

Lastly, the dub gets Miko's voice pretty dang good! And it masters those rappers voices, I adore them and their manner of speaking even though the raps, other than one, unfortunately aren't dubbed. Also, the Ryou speech wasn't in comedic engrish so that's another plus!

I fucking knew it. When the dad opened that curtain to the tent I knew Taro was going to be eating his mother. Damn. The dad couldn't even bring himself to kill him and in the process was gunned down. Look like Akira couldn't even save him either since in the next scene was him next to 3 graves. Miki's whole family is gone.

BETRAYAL! DAMM! Ryo just exposed Akira. What the hell man. Still don't understand what he has to do with that light. Is that creepy red demon with the face his secretary? They look like they share the same face.

I wonder what Miki thinks of Akira since she knows he's a demon now.

Best episode of the show so far. While I felt underwhelmed with how the show handled the deaths of Akira's parents, the show did such a fantastic job with the mental breakdown of Miki and Taro's father and how the amount of sudden mental conflicts rushed into him and made him afraid to shit while crying and losing his mind, whether to pull the trigger on his kid for becoming a demon or to stop since obviously, it's his flesh and blood. The way he kept on being indecisive, starting and stopping was brilliantly handled, although maybe a tad overexaggerated at times but given the gravity of the situation and how everyone else around him were losing their minds and killing each other due to fear, it's perfectly justified. Ryo's speech at the end to the whole world pretty much was great and holy fuck he was not afraid to go full heel turn on Akira with the betrayal when he revealed that Akira was a demon all along to the world. The music made it even more sickening and awesome to watch.

That scene with Maki's family broke me. I don't tend to cry at shows, but that whole sequence stunned me.

I'm a dad. While I don't have to worry about people demonizing like the show, that whole family storyline taps into a very adult fear of everything going haywire too quickly.

Akiko knew that taking Taro away from her family was the only way to keep the rest of her family safe... Geez, that's still a hard path to take. And then Noel shows up too late... That was brutal.

Miki's dad breaking down has to be some of the best character acting I have ever seen in animation. Everything down to the smallest detail felt completely raw. Voice acting from the seiyuu was outstanding as well. That will always be a powerful scene.

I’m confused about this ‘twist’ everyone is talking about. Is it what Ryo revealed; that demons come from humans? Because we knew that from the very beginning with that sabbath scene lol.

The twist in talk is relevant to the upcoming repercussions in the ongoing episodes. The revelation by Ryo is not done from the standpoint of the viewers but from the vantage point of the citizens of the world this story has been set in.

Of course, since the first time Ryo is really sus. What is the point of him to get Akira and change him into devil? and who is Ryo? I thought Ryo who save the world but my opinion is really wrong. He is the one who turn the world into a disaster. It is the time for Akira vs Ryo, and the battlefield is the world, a friendship battle. This fight will be interesting.

I read the manga years ago so I knew the twist in store for Ryo...but hadn't this series already given it away with his murder of the photographer or his indifference to the lives lost in his scheme to expose Koda? It's not much of a surprise how evil he is, just that he isn't even human.

It's hard to feel sorry for Taro when he murdered his own mother; frankly he deserved to die....which, oddly, it does not actually show. He's clearly not hit by any of the gunfire but then it just cuts to Akira in front of three graves. Very strange story choices.

Incredible is all I can say for this episode. Just incredible. I mean wow not only do we have Ryo make things worse for humanity but he also outs Akira on national TV to not just Japan but the entire world.

God I really felt Taro and his dad’s pain just the inner conflict and turmoil that happened during it was just intense. Not only what makes it worse is that Taro along with his mum were together in the tent when this happened, he transformed into a demon and proceeded to eat her but he was fully aware of his actions, the dad didn’t want to shoot his own offspring but they ended up getting shot for their troubles by the trigger happy police. No wonder Akira and Miki started crying the moment after the news of their deaths had been said.

What a magnificent episode, bleak yes but a magnificent episode.

Well I'll be damned. An actual good episode that, surprisingly, doesn't even have any action... and here's the kicker, NO NUDITY 😱

I knew that someway, somehow, and at some point, this prick of a "friend" named Ryou, would backstab Akira once he had no more use of him as a tool. But to announce to the ENTIRE WORLD.... yikes. At the rate we're going, with Ryou gaining some powers or something of the sorts, this will lead to a final battle between the two.

Fuck Ryou. All my homies HATE Ryou.

@IzanaSolos Technically Xenon fought Akira in the middle of the episode. It just looked like crap. Also, the kid in the Amazon called Ryo "Satan" and then the other devil came to pick him up for some reason. Pretty clear at this point what Ryo is.

The scene with Miki's dad was pretty good. As an impressionable little kid I guess Taro just absorbed the evil of society and turned into a low-level demon. Honestly kind of silly but it was a genuinely emotional moment. The soldiers just annihilating them all was almost comical though. The show was all about hammering on the gas pedal up until now so it sort of flubbed it when it required a little holding back.
