Why have the characters died in the order they are shown in the ending song?

Has anyone else noticed that?

Its been the exact order of deaths so far and its really bad writing. Almost, head scratching level.

Yeah it's pretty lazy but something interesting is how snake appears after everyone who's already died.... I'm guessing that's foreshadowing something.

He's gonna win and ask for his head to be reattached, then go on to live as a free zombieman.

Yeah, it is likely leading to something.

Not to mention you know a character is toast when they get a flashback so this predictability goes deeper than the ending song. I wouldn't even call it lazy. Its more... why? Who sat there and said it was a good idea.

Oh shit, literally didn't even pick up on that till you mentioned it. Probably because I just didn't really care enough.

Going off the ending then, looks like Rabbit (and subsequently snake) will die as well as dragon. And that'll end up leaving Tiger, Ox, and Rat as the final 3. Dying in the order respectively.

I agree, that's actually lazy as fuck to basically spoil the entire thing like that.

Yes, this has been kind of obvious since episode 2/3. They're going in reverse zodiac order. The show(and author) knows this and is telling you this on purpose.

I know the show knows about it, but it is still really stupid. It literally spoils the death order.

Know that thing called "Art"? That insignifact for many matter, substituted by "entertainment" for the masses? Yes? No(.)?
This story is heavily inspired by the 12 zodiac animals legend, it is not the ending but the story that matters. You know that Rat will be the last man standing, he might not even have to kill anyone at all, so what? There is a ton more to this story than simply knowing who will die in what order. If you can fathom more than one dimenion of moving pictures.

Art?

Story?

The story is terribly written my man. The ending is just one of many shitty things wrong with the writing in this anime. From the predictable backstories before they die, anti-climatic fights, fights where most zodiac have underestimated their opponents and died and its a trope at this point, rushed 6th episode, actions contradict character personalities and much more.

The show cares more about showing you how & why they die, instead of when they die, hence why it spoils the latter basically from the beginning. Obviously not everyone is going to like that decision and I can understand that. I guess it doesn't bother me as much because of the setting. If this wasn't a battle royale it'd bother me more, but since it is we already know that only one person is supposed to still be alive by the end, so chances are the people you're rooting for are going to die regardless.

Maybe the show would have benefited from being 24 episodes instead of 12 so we could have spent more time with the characters, but even then it wouldn't have changed the death order. It's not the best battle royale series by any means(there's an actual manga called Battle Royale if you want to read a great story), but I'm still able to have fun with it.

Wouldn't consider bad writing if it's just an ED song but that was a massive fail, they weren't even trying to make things subtle. Which is retarded as shit.

Technically he's still in the match. I guess his zombified body will be dealt with in that order.

And at OP, nice observation.

It also happens to be the reverse zodiac order, just saying.

Given that monkey and sheep didn't die in their character focus episodes, I think they're planning to do a little more. The order looks like it may just be the order of character backstory focus episodes.

Also, after talking to a friend who is a bit of a mythology buff, he said the story reminded him of the Great Race, which was supposed to be how the zodiac got its order. Given that the show is flat out translated as Zodiac War, the reimagining of the story seems to be what is more important in the writer's mind.

As others have said the ED order is just the Zodiac Order in reverse (which also so far has been the order of deaths). I remember that Nisio said that he wanted to tell the story of the Zodiacs as not that many people know about them and judging from a lot of people's response to this series it seems that he was right (for me though I'm well aware of the story of the zodiac race and even some of the different versions of it). The way I look at it is that this is a retelling of a classical story/folktale like say Romeo & Juliet. We all know how the story of Romeo & Juliet ends (unless they decide to change from the original story's ending) and you wouldn't say "oh it's so predictable that they die" in a modern retelling of Romeo & Juliet.

I kinda see this as a modern retelling of the Zodiac Race but instead of the animals all racing to a finish line they are in a battle royale killing each other and the order of their deaths (as seen so far) has been the order of their placement in the race from last to first. And there's some neat things put into the writing here and there (whether they actually add anything to your enjoyment of the show is up to you) for example there's an old saying "don't use a beef cleaver to cut a chicken" (meaning don't use something excessive like say an industrial torch to light candles on a birthday cake) and episode 3's title is "cutting a chicken with a beef cleaver" and well you know what happens next. There's also other similar things like that that I've noticed here and there when it comes to character's personalities, the way they die, their abilities/powers and I'm not surprised if I totally missed some of them.

Not at all. You could always skip the ending. I never actually said the order in the OP. It should be obvious not to click the thread if you havent seen it.

Technically snake is a wild card. In the story of the zodiac signs snake does not really participate in the contest. He just earns a place because dragon uses nepotism. So as long as he dies before dragon is ok.

A lot of bad writing throughout the show though. Maybe the worst I have seen in a long time.

Tbh, just knowing the tale of how the Chinese Zodiac was made (or even the order of the animals) is already an spoiler. When I saw how Boar was the POV character in the first episode, was killed at the end, and seeing how the next one was centered in Dog, I already realized where deaths were going to go.

But, anyway, considering Snake died the first (and even if you count his corpse as a participant, then Boar is still not the first casualty, since Dog was killed by Chicken before she used her birds to finish zombie Boar)...

I'm just grateful that we are not going to have another trollery of the level of Katanagatari, since it seems deaths are not going to be off-screen.
