I heard the author has some problem with her company/publisher/whatever. And won't write a new chapter until it give in to her.
You can search up for more info, but that's the gist of it.

I got tricked by the MAL finished status when i started it, it had the potential to end in my favorites and i got disappointed when i saw it was still ongoing.

That's why i usually avoid ongoing manga, you will never know if it will be finished ot not.

The avatar imo give me a idea on the type of personality that person has, for example your avatar give me the impression that you're a open minded/easy going type of guy that embraces his love for ecchi.

While for the person I quote he or her avatar would give me the impression that he or she is a elitist scumbag. Don't take it personal btw, just using you as a example since your avatar standout the most for this example.

So imo, I either think it is character they like or that character is like a mirror to them self, or it could be both.

I think its the character they like or the character that they think looks cool or good as an avatar image.

Always been a huge fan of the Hayate no Gotoku manga, and my favorite character from the series is Tennousu Athena. Will however change it to a Kaiki Deishu picture in not too long.

Already been said but an anime avatar is usually a character the user likes or a character from a show they recently finished, or perhaps it's just the show they are most obsessed over at the time.

It's a little hard to find a gif for an avi on google images since the restrictions are pretty strict so I just use any character I like that I can find.

The user either simply likes the character, or uses the avatar to represent their persona.

In my case, it's mostly the latter. While I think that character looks awesome, he gets less than 1 minute of screen time so I don't consider him one of my favourites. But I chose this one because of the expression, which I use to convey a side of myself. I want to make it apparent that I'm not a happy or nice person, and I despise the world. Thus, I only use avatars that are fitting.

Exactly the last one for me, though I also like her Character in General.

Never mind that. Don't you ever get so attached to your forum pic that you have a hard time changing it?
Yeah + I'm too lazy to change it, anyway. Or more like there won't be any cooler Girl than Hibiki Ganaha for me, so I don't even bother.

I just assume that if it's an anime avatar the the user likes the character/is one of their favorites.

My avatar is one of my favorite characters.

For me it can be their favorite characters, a specific mood (all depends within), or their representation or persona.

Either it's a design they like, or it's a representation of a franchise they like.

I have learned that on MAL, having a black-and-white forum image instantly makes everyone think it's a manga image, which it's not for me,

I think that some possible reasons are: They like that character and the look of the pic enough to let it represent themselves to other people in the internet, it's their favorite interests and they want to let them know how much they like that said franchise, they want to make a first impression by using a picture related to their online and/or real life personality, or they want to get a reaction out from certain kinds of people by using a memey kind of avatar lol

Idk what others think of mine but I guess I can say that it's a bizarre combination of stuff I really, really like kek

Well my Avatar has no meaning whatsoever. i only choose it so that people may identify me on this forum infact i don't even know that from which anime/manga/Ln it is from(can anyone tell me?) so i think that their are some people like me too who don't give much thought about choosing their avatar.
