To start with, thanks for your words on whether CCS is worth the re-watch. The way you said is exactly how I remember CCS being - mainly light-hearted, pure fun and full of heart and character. I will definitely re-watch it sometime in the future!
Your write-up on Akebi was a delightful read. I know how difficult it is to write reviews (since I've obviously done it myself) but you must have done the show justice! Especially given that Akebi is only 1 cour (as compared to a behemoth like Doremi!) I should give it a go! Btw, you said that Akebi is your fav show since 2017, what show from 2017 did you really enjoy? Also, are there any other really overlooked/underrated shows that you would recommend?
Honestly, Doremi is such a long and dense show that no words I could use would ever do it justice! And honestly, sometimes the fewer words you use the better! To make things simple for you, I would simply recommend you watch this masterpiece of a video review on Ojamajo Doremi: https://youtu.be/A8mZifLJdwA - enjoy!
Yeah, I see what you mean about Clear Card. It seems to be a show made for the fans; I don't enjoy using the word 'fanservice' since it implies a sexual connotation. However, in this case, I believe it is the perfect word for it! I think if I stupidly enjoy CCS on re-watch I might even just try it out too. Let's see!
In terms of CCS, you definitely gave a good case on it. Personally, when I watched CCS back in CCS, I certainly thought that the average episode was great although I think I recall a few more subpar ones (this is definitely true for Doremi too - I don't think I've felt any longer show being 100% consistent the whole way through..!). Regardless, I almost feel like rewatching it after reading your comment! I'm feeling a little nostalgic now - especially since as you correctly said how their tackled themes are very similar.
I also fully agree that Doremi clearly improves as it goes on - although at the same time I personally feel that it is always was a very distinct and well-made show (even though it is clearly a passion project). I also definitely get your argument on nostalgia!
Just one quick question for you and then I will finish up here - do you think CCS is worth a re-watch? I mean in terms of nuanced themes, subtle plot-points that you wouldn't have gotten on first watch, or just general value? Also, is the sequel worth giving a go? I remember when it first came out and I was thrilled - but never gave it a try since I just finished the OG CCS.
Thanks a lot for your whole reply btw - I read the whole thing a few times. If you have any questions for me I would be more than happy to answer! Cheers, Intelos
That's a really fun way to re-watch Doremi. I might do that next time I decide to revisit it (maybe just for Na-i-sho and Dokkaan? hmm) a few years down the line. Must really be an experience watching it real time like that!
Out of curiosity though, and I don't mean to come across as a judgemental person, what makes you rate your top 3 over dokkaan? I mean, I have watched Cardcaptor and Monogatari series a few years back and I really liked them, which is why I ask (although I haven't seen Chibi Maruko yet - was thinking of watching the film only but I see your review suggests otherwise haha!). I especially see people fav Cardcaptor over Doremi too, do you think it has to do with nostalgia and growing up watching Cardcaptor or something too?
Again, you obviously have your own tastes and that's wonderful - am just curious since obviously Doremi Dokkaan is (by far) my fav show!
Oh just thought now to also ask: what made Milky Holmes S3 so bad? And are the first two good (would you recommend them?) since I haven't seen them yet! Cheers man
