| Not a cartoon, but I literally just finished watching Westworld, which just made me think how anime is centuries away from being what it should be - good. | Isn't it basically this way in the western cartoon community towards anime as well? Some users on this site are pretty defensive when it comes to cartoons vs anime, siding with cartoons. I can totally see someone posting about anime on a western cartoon forum site and getting circle jerked on just as easily as people on MAL do in the vice versa scenario. Though the majority of them on this site are just bait topics. All in all, all communities are pretty defensive. |

| Well majority of western cartoons are trash. A high percentage of them are meant for kids while the opposite is true for anime. Only good western cartoon that I can think of right now is South Park. Legend of Korra was pretty good too. |

| Because it is true that anime is superior to Western cartoons. I can easily pick out more than a 100 anime with great stories, characters, animation and soundtrack, but I'll have an extremely hard time doing the same with a cartoon. Because there aren't many good cartoons. Most of them are aimed towards children and contain very childish toilet humour. Also, the animation looks extremely same-y. Now anime is a very unique form of entertainment. It is aimed at all age groups and many different demographics. Anime has something for everyone. Anime is varied, it has many different stories. Stories which cannot be replicated in its western counterpart. Why? Because first of all there will be an uproar if even a hint of nudity or blood is shown on cartoons. Second, if someone in the US suggests making something like Evangelion or Serial Experiments Lain or Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita, they would get laughed at because they're crazy. American cartoons are just not creative enough to match anime(and they don't have to). There are a few good cartoons from my generation back in the late 90s and early 00s, but that's gone now. Cartoons back then were good enough or even better than anime. This is 2017 though. Western cartoons can never catch up to anime. And that's that. |

Little by little TV networks canceled the good cartoons and replaced them with trash, and started to fuck up the few they had left. I think the only good cartoon left is Gravity Falls. | It's because western animation has, with the exception of Disney and some DreamWorks films, suffered badly in quality for decades, while at the same time anime was expanding and increasing the general quality in it's medium. It's called the 'animation ghetto' for a reason. In the last ~15 years or so it's started to turn around, but that stigma still sticks around. |

| You'll also occasionally see someone parades the superiority of Marvel cartoons. Some people like to use their hobbies as status symbols. It's irrational to dismiss a gigantic movement/genre of art. Such people are no fun. |

| It's so I can laugh at the beautiful hypocrisy when they talk about non-anime fans being prejudiced and ignorant and not knowing what they talk about when they say all anime is for kids or tentacle porn. Anime fans are just as prejudiced and ignorant when it comes to anything non-japanese (western animation or live action for example). It's really more a human trait than something related to any particular medium or fandom. |

| Well, in my case, my low opinion on western cartoons is that they tend to be mediocre episodic comedies, just not my thing. And I'd say there are more than 10 anime better than Avatar, but as quality of storytelling is decently subjective, and I just don't find Avatar to be super engaging like everyone else does, we could argue this all day and get nowhere. |
