Thank you for the dedication in replying to me as well then haha I can understand this is maybe not a discussion anybody would like having without getting headaches. xD I would lie if I said that this discussion didn't enlighten me in some way at least because some thought was definitely put into it. And yes, I can understand what Shinkai meant, it's indeed the concept that matters and not the explanation in this case, but I think it's even more of a reason why it deserves its 6. And, yep, i don't think it was as properly dwelved into as it could have been ..but that's me. haha

I happen to be a big fan of the Nolan movies and tend to like them on the first go, but no, even after reading that analysis, it just doesn't cut it. ^^’ Now, I might have just appeared like looking for confirmation from somebody else in my comment on InvestorX's profile, maybe I sounded like somebody that didn't put much thought into it, but I didn't expect to have to explain myself. So since I was sent an article, I shall do my best to explain why I think certain parts remain off no matter how one tries to analyze something (besides, I am speaking of the form, the execution, the conveying, the storytelling, the narrative threads and not just simply of the meaning when I say that Kimi no na wa is just okay).

(I took several lines or paragraphs from the article and I’ll try to explain why the article doesn’t convince me. You can also feel free to skip all this if you’re too lazy or don’t care to read my reasoning, I’m not trying to change your opinion, I’ll resume it at the end xD)




After this huge wall of text, whether you have read it or not, I can reach the conclusion that the article was as superficial as the movie itself which doesn’t exactly help me change my idea. They delve but do not dig. And if you have read my wall of text you might have realized, but I’m going to still say it, that I didn’t dislike the movie for not understanding it, I find it fine/okay BECAUSE I understood it. And again, it’s not like I didn’t like this movie, I can see there was a lot of effort and detail put into it; I just find it average and, yes, after this article, I now find it also overly pretentious and overly ambitious for all the other issues that it brought to the table. I just don’t think it deserves the myriad of 10s exactly for the reasons brought above !

What is to love here, without overthinking it, and what most people love about it is the "idea", the concept, which is entirely subjective. The idea of star crossed lovers just works and I'd lie if I said dramatical and impossible stuff don't touch me, but in this case I just couldn't because it expected me to nod along way too much. I wanted to like it, I usually like this genre, my love for Jun Maeda should say it all, but there are times when it works and times when it doesn’t.

However, thank you for the analysis and the nice comment despite not agreeing with eachother. ^^ it is rare to meet people like you.
