Also, I think Inuyasha should count.

Oh I know that one but haven't read it yet. Thank you!

You've lots more Junji Ito waiting for you, like Souichi no Tanoshii Nikki or Kubi Gensou. Or more Aya Nakahara goodness like Dame na Watashi ni Koishite Kudasai.
But for a mangaka you may not have read before, Warau Kanoko-sama and its sequel Koi Dano Ai Dano. Naedoko is one of my all-time favorite shoujo protagonists.

Please recommend me some manga for challenge #43, #44, #49

#43. Read a manga that has a main character that is a professional in their field
#44. Read a manga that deals with something related to Japanese culture
#49. Read a manga centered around folklore or mythology

Thank you!

#43: Eternal Sabbath (scientist), Monster (doctors & detectives)
#44: Ghost Hunt (japanese.... well, ghosts, Buddhist monks, Shinto priestess, etc.), Gugure Kokkuri-san (yokai) or, if you're feeling really ambitious, InuYasha (more yokai)
#49: Samon the Summoner, Mahoutsukai no Yome

Well, maybe you can get some more recommendations elsewhere, I've tried to find the least shoujo on my list. =)

thank you very much! i think i am going to read monster first

Hey, any recommendation for #30? And another one for #60?
Preferably between 20-60 chapters and completed :3

#30 : Read a manga adapted from a video game, original anime or light novel.

For #30, how about the Wolf Children manga? It just says original anime, not anime series, so manga adapted from anime films should be ok. I dunno if it's fully scanlated though, they might have dropped it after YP picked it up. I know I saw the complete omnibus at B&N yesterday though. Looked pretty nice, if a bit pricey. If I'd had the time I'd have just read it there.
Failing that, The Electric Tale of Pikachu is a classic. If that's no good, maybe one of the Zelda adaptations.
Edit: Breath of Fire IV got a pretty legit manga adaptation too, come to think of it.

For #60... maybe Bonnouji? Seems like you read a lot of romance.

Oh wow, these look great and the lengths are perfect! Pretty much interested in reading all of them :p
Stupid of me to not think of Pokemon though, as I love the games and used to watch the anime all the time, should've thought of that one xDD

For No.30 "Something adapted from Video Game, Anime or Light Novel", Does
Dragon Quest, Dai no Daibouken count, since it doesn't follow the story of Dragon Quest but has the same name and universe?

@makotoed https://myanimelist.net/manga/44307/Kakukaku_Shikajika/stats counts

@Bagira20 If it doesn't follow the same story, at least partially, then it wouldn't count as an adaptation, so unfortunately no

That restriction is only for the people doing it on Prodigious difficulty, and the challenges with the "*" are excluded from the 5 volume long restriction

Holy cow I can't even load your ptr list on the mobile site it's too big. Did you just add every series you haven't read? The first thing that jumped out at me going down the list was Blue Spring Ride. That's a pretty good shortish series, maybe give that a try.

Thank you both! I ended up going for About Death as I didn't really feel like reading a romance series. Both suggestions were greatly appreciated either way!

#42 Ookami to Koushinryou
#60 Life
For #33 it's a manhwa but it's really good in my opinion. It's called Can't See Can't Hear But Love
#48 Sakamichi No Apollon or Diamond Dust
For #67 since the second letter of your username is "u" I suggest you to read Umania but you can also look for other manga that you're interested in
#19 Nagi no Asu kara or Hamatora
#41 Love So Life
For #2 is a josei manga but I hope you don't mind since I personally enjoyed it. It's called Aigan Cinderella.

I still don't know what to do with #66 (Read a manga suggested by Manga+ or MyAnimeList). They only rec me things like Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso, Naruto, or Tokyo Ghoul, and I'm doing a Yuri only challenge :/

Another question, would this count as being related to Maria-sama ga Miteru for #69 (Read a manga that is related to something you previously read) purposes, even though this particular Marimite manga isn't in manga relations of the one I want to read?

I don't think it counts. I was recommended Pietà for that very item, and I liked it, you can check it out if you want.

Junji Ito's Cat Diary is a nice little read, and would count for either #42 or #51. I Don't Exist in This Firefly City should do for #41, though I don't remember any ages being given, they are clearly young kids. U wa Uchuusen no U for either #2 or #20. Frankenstein for #46 and Monster for #46 or #5.

Comic ZERO-SUM publish some pretty non-standard josei, but for almost-shoujo josei, you could try Dame na Watashi ni Koishite Kudasai, Ginban Kishi, Jumping or anything by Akiko Higashimura, all very good, fuzzy josei.

There's a sadly overlooked Arakawa short Raiden-18, or Liar Game for some mind games.
Koi dano Ai dano and its prequel are very good, non-standard shoujo, as is the ever-popular (deservingly) Akatsuki no Yona.

As for 'outside of Japan', I guess we'll need one of the admins to decide, I'd like to know as well.

I'm not an authority on the survival manga, but the characters in Junji Ito Collection 4 or Junji Ito Collection 9 are making decent efforts towards that specific goal. Ditto in his more known work, Uzumaki, or you could try Kimi no Knife. School Mermaid is also a pretty fun horror with nice little twists.

If the manga is a shōnen/seinen but with a female lead. Or if the manga is a shōjo/josei with a male lead.

Personally I have read Banana Fish for that item. Everyone should read that manga, it's really great: good characters, good plot, and a lot of actions, dialogs and emotions.

For an adult MC: I see you enjoyed 20th Century Boys, so why not try Monster or Master Keaton? I also see Sanctuary on your ptr, that'd be good too.

As for 61 I'm pretty sure you could do either, as long as you link to the challenge entry you found it on. I'll go ahead and recommend Kakukaku Shikajika, which I read last week for the "award-winning" challenge, but if that doesn't look like your cup of tea you can look through the challenge entries and see if anything jumps out at you as interesting.

I'd say this category is fairly hard to deal with as well. For example, an workplace/office comedy or drama doesn't necessarily count as a discussion of Japanese workplace culture, but it definitely could count. Seems kinda subjective tbh. Honestly as long as you think you can make some kind of case for a series you're probably OK.

Either that or take the easy way out and do something folklore-related.
