First episode seems really rushed for me. Maybe because I've played all the games so far and have spent time looking for the right evidence.

Wasn't expecting anything for this anime (didn't even know there was one until today) so I found this ok. I'm going to watch a couple more episodes to see if they improve on some things.

I've never played any of the games apart from a demo on the 3DS (though I intend to play the games someday).

I didn't mind the animation, I overall liked it, I'm going to keep watching it for now.

I find the comedy moment to be weird and awkward. Also, I didn't really enjoy much for the way they handle the court case. But I'm looking forward for it. I have not seen any anime that do solving case in the court.

OP song is ok. So far, what I like about this series is the ending song Message by Yasuda Rei xD

The theme is cool, but there were some "what the hell" parts like when Naruhodo was blown because the witness shouted. Why did they end it like this? I liked her? :'(

Anyone else felt that the comedy the games are known for was adapted in such a way that it seemed forced? For example, at one point Phoenix/Naruhodo says that everyone should get together and think on how the witness's testimony was contradictory.

That moment seemed so forced that it killed the momentum and tension that had been building to that point. As a conseqence, the following sequences felt out of place and "Rushed" because they are trying to go back to the "tension" vibea

The first episode was fine. This episode was based on the tutorial case and there isn't much to actually animate. I'm sure that starting next week, the series will become more enjoyable and "robust" in content.

The first episode seems "rushed" because they cut out all the: "Pressing the witness for extra testimonies" segments. In the video game you would be pressing every statement to gain more information. Even then it's just the first case ever, you can complete it without actually pressing any statements, which happend in the Anime.
You've just contradicted yourself... You say it's rushed because they cut out the "pressing", yet you also say the first case can be completed without any "pressing".

It's rushed because they've inserted unnecessary things that don't serve to build up any tension, like Larry/Yahari butting in too often, shots of the classroom trial, Phoenix stumbling at the first opportunity to present evidence, the ED, and a long next episode preview.

-Maybe- the next episode will be better with...

Mod Edit: Added spoiler tags; please hide plot details.

I replayed the case for fun, only thing that's gonna annoy anime only viewers is that the 2nd case also displays the murderer, which isn't the case later on, but people might get the wrong idea that yuo'll always know who did it.

Actually it quite popular outside Japan too. There are around 7 Phoenix games that got translate into English

Anyway , I think I'm okay with this even I don't like Yuji Kaji as Phoenix's VA. Hope that rest of the series don't rushed like the first one.

You missed a thing, the "Games" are popular, this episode wasn't even popular between AA fans.

Anyway ... Yep, comedy is a genre here, remember this. But It's not at all, AA have a serious side to walking side by side with comedy, however this adaptation (episode 1) focused in goofy side too much, wasting time that would be used to do a better explanation from the case.

It's not that they found out but rather an "As it turns out"-type of story. He simply confessed after getting rabies.

I haven't played the games so this is just an opinion from someone that just saw the first episode and knows that it's based on the game but know nothing about it.

and ... wow. . maybe it's just meant for the fans for the nostalgia of it? I thought the episode was average at best. I'll watch more cos who judges anime based on ONE episode.. and maybe / hopefully it'll pick up from there.

The adaptation is pretty faithful, but I'm not feeling it, it lacks the hotbloodedness from the games, especially when the culprit goes berserk.

Same, it just doesn't capture the characters well. Feels too subdued.
Also the animation quality is balls. A-1, couldn't even animate the five people one the side? They had to use CG? For shame.

All what was needed to be put in this discussion already over, yep this first episode was a bad adaptation . But have a thing that I'm not understanding, is your problem guys about the comedy? Isn't allowed a show about a attorney to have comedy? I didn't know these rules.

Just letting the synopsis here, is nice to read synopsis before to watch shows because their proposal will not change to your will.

SYNOPSIS
A rookie lawyer Ryuuichi Naruhodou stands up to save his defendants by proving their innocence from unusual cases!

Is the defendant guilty or innocent...? Believing his client's innocence Naruhodou stands in court and battles his rival judges. With the word of "OBJECTION!" and limited evidence, Naruhodou makes a comeback when all odds are against him and seems like there is nothing more he can do. Don't miss out on the comical episodes between him and his mentor Chihiro Ayasato, assistant Mayoi Ayasato, rival prosecutor Reiji Mitsurugi, and numerous unique characters! The anime also depicts the childhood relationship between Naruhodou and his friends. With the skills inherited from his mentor Naruho reveals the truth!

(Source: YTV)

If it's to be a good adaptation, it will be serious in some points, but comedy will be always there, "few" or "much" always be there, If you have some problem about it know that is better to you drop it now, go search for some mature non-anime shows is my recommendation. Japanese people are crazy, you already know this.

I like the idea of the anime, and it's actually pretty good but this first case was too easy but i'm hoping that it's just a "soft introduction" of the series.

Watchable but not a good anime. It's faithful I'll give them that. Better than Digimon Reunion mostly because they have a good script to fall back on. I hope they improve because I want a good adaptation I can recommend to my younger siblings who aren't old enough to play the game (it's too hard for them funnily enough....we have a large age gap between us, 15+ years).

Music they need to use better remixes of the game. Like, I don't know, use the orchestral or jazz ones. Or do it like the recent game which have higher quality remixes.

The pacing was oddly fast for an episode 1 A-1 anime. They usually do their first episodes really well and then rush the rest of the entire season. It makes me wonder how they are going to fill out the rest of the season, or if they are planning on adapting more than one game. They kind of skipped all of the 'Press' dialogues and went strait to the chase. A missed opportunity to introduce a bit of drama/pacing variance for folks who haven't played the game.

Well, it follows the game's tutorial case step-by-step. If they do the same thing with later cases, things will get considerably more complex.

I liked the out of courtroom scenes more than the courtroom scenes themselves. The concept doesn't translate well from game to anime. Still, this is just the first episode so I'll go easy on my judgment. I can't very well quit without seeing Edgeworth or Von Karma in action!

The presentation seemed to follow the games to a T which I think was a bad idea. The green text overlays didn't mesh well with the rest of the art styles in my opinion. Also, Phoenix's eye brows seemed a bit weird too. The rest of the art and animation was good though.

Absolutely appalling: bad art, bad animation, bad characters, bad plot/mysteries, and downright horrible CGI.

I never played the Phoenix Wright games, so maybe I'm missing the point here, but still I don't think an adaptation should not feel like a direct port from a Gameboy Advance to my TV.

Maybe I'll watch the second episode, since I actually had a good laught at how bad it was, but I can't yet see myself sitting out the entire season.

I haven't played much of the game, just the first two cases, but its like people dont get this was a comedy case and a TUTORIAL case. Its adapting a game and from what ive seen of the game again two cases. It was fairly faithful although a bit fast paced. One more time this episode adapted a tutorial case.

Soooo I just watched this earlier and I was a bit disappointed with the animation or art style (maybe it's because I'm still used to the Bones/game's art style). It was weird seeing/hearing the Japanese names as well.

Btw the opening looks cheesy as hell. It makes it look like Phoenix is some kind of the new transfer student running late for school, shame that they forgot to add the bread. On the contrary, the ending looks good I guess....

Hope that things would be better next episode, can't wait to see Maya and Edgeworth!

Just here to see what's so popular about this jury game.
Compared to the lacking pv, the trial was better than expected with wacky characters, kind of Danganronpa feel. Screen captions/setup/Cg courtroom feels gamey, guess it's going for comedy.
Things happening quite abrupt, already two dead acquaintances of the mains.
The Thinker clock seems fun, do they sell it somewhere?
ED song quite nice.

This episode was disappointing.

I'll ignore bad animation and controversial voice acting. They're the least important thing, I can deal with them.

But:

They overdosed on goofiness. A joke here and there makes sense, but most characters behaving as they did? Nope. Especially Phoenix. Some things work in the game form, but not in anime.

Pacing was off. I don't mean that it was too fast or too slow, but it was uneven. Some things where way too fast, and some were too slow.

Gamelike UI. Seriously. I'll give the green captions a pass. But flying hours? Giant "Testimony", "Cross examination", "Objection" and "Not guilty" captions? WTF?

Magical finger pointing. Seriously, should I expect a hadouken in the next episode?

Some dialogues sounded like ripped exactly from the game, I was expecting Mia to say "Click 'Present' to use evidence to contradict the testimony." It really felt like a tutorial for the game.

Also, out of all things in the game, they dropped the toupee toss and kept the confetti?

I'll give the show a chance for few more episodes. This was just the tutorial case, so no wonder it's meh.
