They switched to comedy pretty fast, it's expected to be honest, since this is just a 12-13 episodes anime. If my memory serves right, didn't Yuu said something about a certain person in one of the previous episodes?

This was a very strange episode of two distinct halves. The first ten minutes of the episode were absolute shite, focusing too much on really, really crappy comedy (fuck the magic spells) and a song by Yusarin that was absolutely awful. From this, I was prepared to write this episode off as a disaster, but boy I was wrong yet again. The second half was far, far stronger than the first, especially that moment after the singer of ZHIEND finished singing and Nao's brother regained some degree of sanity. Not only was this a fantastic moment, it felt like it has helped strengthen the relationship between Nao and Yu, and I'm sure the concert will do the same if it all goes off without a hitch. The song ZHIEND's vocalist sang was really nice as well.

I bet there's more to ZHIEND's vocalist than we're being told so far. She mentioned something along the lines of trading away her eyesight with God, which seems like a very strange comment. I bet she has some kind of power, and I'l be interested to find out what kind of power that is.

She would get Misa killed with her power.

The ep was nice, music is pretty good(but not in compare to other Maeda or GDM songs), but... Don't you forgot about the plot? Now I understand that it was for nothing, but I thought that after 6th and 7th ep's there will be something mysterous, interesting and it will answer our questions about previous episodes' weird and obscure moments. MC's development is not what I expected for.

I dunno, it just seemed, with the conversation they had on the bus and Sala's whole "atoning for her sins bargain with God" that the bargain had to do with her powers but you may be right . . .thanks for your help. Also there's the fact that the brother really liked ZHEND so Sala's presence and singing may have really helped him . . but as you said, that's definitely some out there animu logic.

If Sala had any power, I would think it'd be telepathy. She has a really uncanny and accurate way of knowing exactly how Yuu is feeling and what he is thinking, which she claims (rather unconvincingly, imo) to deduce from sounds he makes. She also guesses correctly that he was not always as nice as he is now.

Though it's likely just because she is supposed to fit the cliche of an extremely wise person with a disability.

Initially I thought she had some power too, but I don't think so. I'm not sure where the "bargain" part will be justified.
But on the other hand, blind people are really sensitive to other people. Kinesthesia is quite an uncanny thing we are not accustomed to because we use our eyes all the time. But I loved it when she mentioned that she knew he was breathing despair the whole time. It's really true. The tone of people, their breathing, their voice and the way they act... they can tell you so much and blind people get attuned to that. And they will usually have good intuition. So for Sara to trust Yuu to take her all the way to the hospital was not uncommon. It's a different matter that meeting Sara was a convenience of the script for Yuu's wish fulfilment... allowing Yuu to help Nao's brother thinking he was somehow helping his own sister, that he could do something for others and feel better now.

I think singing and voice do have the capacity to cure people. Just because we see it in an anime as part of a plot makes it less credible is funny. But yeah, I don't think just one session would work. For that matter, on the one hand, her singing without music will definitely have a different effect than them playing a cd with the guitar chords and drums. But they should have showed that difference.

The way Tomori spoke on the phone, she had given up all hope and scared to hope again. I wonder if she'd tried to make her brother listen to the songs. She was scared it would be an empty attempt again so she didn't want to drag someone into her personal matter, so she preferred not to get involved. Yuu was free to do what he pleased.

Pretty good episode. It was enjoyable. Not very many cringe moments for me.

rookieanimedude said:
Her background was awfully confusing (I don't know if this is because of the poor English translation, or poor writing), and I don't get where her blindness is supposed to have come from. Did she blind herself, or use some type of power . . . I just don't understand what they were going for with her character. Still, watching her bring Nao's brother out of the depths of instability was awesome (even the English pronunciation was so-so).

As for the rest of the episode, I agree with a few others here who were worried about Yuu recovering too quickly. He doesn't seem weary enough. Apparently, he's recovered enough that he can already put on a smiling face for others? I don't think Maeda accurately conveyed how broken he should still be.

Agreed to all of the above here.

I'm quite liking Sala so far, even if she's a bit confusing. She's really pretty for one. I wonder if her blindness has to do with powers? Who knows really? It might be. But there's a chance it's unrelated too. Then again, with all the foreshadowing, it could be. And Sala's Engrish wasn't terrible at least. Could have been a lot worse. Yusa's Engrish was pretty bad though.

In my opinion as well, Yuu seems to be covering a bit too fast. I feel like there's not much - not nearly enough - depth to his emotions. The smiles don't look strained. It just doesn't feel quite right.

Looks like next episode might have some reveals. Hopefully.

I just want to add a gif that I saw in the comments section for the episode. I think it's beautiful, so I want to share it.

We still don't really know how Yusa's power works, though if I had to guess I'd say she has to have an extremely strong connection to the spirit in question - her sister would obviously be the strongest candidate in that respect, not Ayumi. Also, given the fact that Misa is always the one who initiates the possession, I think it is likely that the limitation of Yusa's power is that she can't control who posseses her or when. So to be possessed by a spirit, said spirit would have to know it can possess Yusa, because it is the one who must initiate it. Ayumi didn't know of Yusa's power before she died, whereas her sister presumably did.

Wait, Sala was voiced by Sawashiro or I'm going mental..?

Simply appaling episode, in my view, after such grim events the anime shouldn't switch back to cartoonish comedy at all, now this almost like Akame ga Kill.

But all is redeemed by that song, jesus, so good.

Ehh you know what I mean, 12 or 13, there is no difference.

I like this anime as I like every Key's production. It has that specific vibe which causes that I can't wait for next episode. Charlotte is not something which I rate 10/10 (for now), but it IS something different than usual anime. This is the reason why I like it that much.

That means absolutely nothing, considering it doesnt pick up for 6 episodes. They could have easily just cut out three episodes, and had the same character devolpment.

Honestly, the number of episodes is no excuse for poor pacing and character development that definitely exists in some places. They knew how many episodes they had to work with from the very beginning. If the story they had wasn't going to work in the time they had, then they should've made alterations so it would.

That said, I think there were rumors of a second cour or After Story for this floating around. Not sure.

Song is definitely good.

But so many haters for the comedy. True, I'm not a fan of it either and would love to see it gone, but we should remind ourselves that the tragedy was only in his life. Everyone else is going about their usual daily lives. So when he does get back to school, he'll be faced by this sudden irritating loudness which he even comments on.

And there was quite a long standing shot of the food from the canteen. He was remembering Ayumi's omelet rice at that point. And all that loudness in the council room was to take his mind off of being depressed, so was the setup to go to the concert.
Yuu is dealing with his reality. Pacing could have been slower, sure, but I think it's okay. Knowing that Tomori was with him alllll of that time when he was off being nuts also obviously has an affect. He wouldn't want to drag her into his depression again like that.

Well, you had decided from last week that the show would have become bad if it had switched back to comedy again, so it's obvious that you wouldn't have liked the episode. even though the cartoonish scenes had the purpose of letting Yuu show that he actually enjoyed being in the student council, so they're a necessary segway from last week's change of mind, as they clarify his reasons for coming back and flow naturally from last week's sweet and light-hearted ending.

Yeah, I'm glad they included that remark at least. That Yuu recognized the silliness and what his return to it signified. However ... the return to "cartoonish comedy" was still unwelcome to me. It felt exactly the same as before, which I don't think it should. I had hoped Ayumi's death would represent a fundamental change in the show, but it feels more like a blip, an interruption.

This show does some things I like, and I haven't had a bad time watching it, I've been enjoying it as it comes. But at this point, I feel as though whatever potentially amazing or interesting twists / revelations / foreshadowed shenanigans happen won't be able to pull the whole shape of the show together in a way that satisfies me. I'm sure it won't be so bad as to make me dislike the show as a whole, but I'll probably wind up wishing they used their time differently, and feel that the show wasted a chunk of its potential.

I'd like to be proven wrong, but each week there is less air time to capitalize on the interesting portions of the show. Here's to hoping.

Yeah, we already proved that we'll always disagree on this, but I love every single second that the show spends showing the student council members interacting and being silly. I should eventually write something about why Charlotte's comedy works so well for me.

Still, it's not like this episode was just comedy, it was the conclusion of Yuu's character arc, and Sala was like a foreshadowing-machine...

That was a wonderful episode. The only gripe I have is that Yuu didn't really react to Yusarin's PV. I was hoping that he'd remember how much Ayumi loved Yusa's music and begin to tear up.

Still, that's just one small thing. Sala alone makes this episode a 5/5.

Kind of silly how he doesn't seem to be sad at all that his sister is dead - he's just like "oh well guess i have to make dinner myself now".

And apparently the parents don't give a shit about the death of their daughter aswell, i think they were working overseas or something right?

Well....already too far into this to drop it so i'll guess i'll just go along with it... just waiting for the sister to be revived now
