I'm actually wondering if it'll change each week now until either she gets to safety or is revealed as a zombie. It'll be like the OP has its own mini plot going on.

The Op will change when stuff is revealed in the anime.

Once again, not enough Kurumi. Kurumi is awesomeness, and love. Eh, pretty good mall episode.

Uhh. You've been leaving under a rock? HOTD was decent. Too bad it stagnated to D.Gray-man level release rates.
If you like your western series too, then I recommend AMC's the Walking Dead. It will teach you all the stuff you need to do in case of a Zombie Apocalypse. Also, it's highly entertaining. On that same vein, Zombieland was hilarious. Then there's Shawn of the Dead...

Where do you get the info about their hearing? Or are you talking about zombies in general?

As for the sight, it seems that they can actually see. In episode 2, when they went to the school library, a zombie appeared and for a moment we got to see through his eyes. The vision was grey or greeenish and slightly distorsioned, but he could see Yuki-chan.

I'm talking about the zombies in general. Its on google results. I actually bothered to look it up because I was watching the episode with my bf and he mentioned it, which was something that had me curious. So I wanted to see if it was a true fact about zombies.

Also, about their eye sight. Episode 5 kinda made it look like they couldn't really see, and made things kinda confusing. Many believe that all zombies see are blurred shapes and a difference between light and dark. So they might be able to see, maybe with poor sight. Or at least can sense you, especially by hearing. Plus their eyes look like they are all gouged out with no eye balls.

Idk, this is just something that made it seem so. I don't really watch things or play games with many zombies. So who knows for sure.

Something else that bugged me about this episode was that for all the risk they took getting there, you'd think they'd have cleaned out that supermarket of every canned item. I also thought that school store was ridiculous--it was more like the local 7-11.

I'm mostly willing to let those sorts of plot conveniences slide given how fun the premise is. Also, to be fair, if they had overloaded their backpacks they wouldn't have been able to run with them, so it's not like they really had the opportunity to stock up too heavily on foodstuffs.

but you didn't know it was a flashback until they found out about taromaru and miki

It's a zombie apocalipse series, it's not for little kids who can't pay attention at the screen.

next episode will make it the fourth flashback episode in a row

At this rate it would be more convinent to say that it is the main timeline and the first two episodes were a flashforward.

SPOILER

Kurumi is the first one to die among them. Then the other two will follow until Yuki is the only one left. Hence, the last seconds of the ED where she wakes up alone and the text "Sweet Dreams" appears.

I was blamed for passing spoliers off as speculations.
But passing speculations off as spoilers is something new.

On the episode. Well, it was all right, but what's with the stop on their way to the mall? Will they make it on the way back? Doesn't seem likely though as the next episode will center on welcoming Miki to the group. So, I hope, they'll insert this scene somewhere later? Cause it would be a waste to totally cut it out.

dw, a few other people already did it, even though

but i mean, you know....why not ruin the fun for other watchers who haven't read the manga if we have the opportunity.

about the episode itself:
* +1 on the "all these flashback episodes in a row are getting tiresome
* +1 on the "Taroumarou scenes could have been used to put better stuff from the manga there"
* I would have liked it better if they first showed Miki getting on the piano and then the "did you guys hear that" scene. It would make more sense to actually show the character asking for help first
* I liked the way they hinted that Yuki isn't delusional 24/7

There Different zombies not Same in Movie Games Anime and Tv series real people not anime.

In highschool of the dead Zombie are blind but they use sense hearing and sense smell same in Gakkou Gurashi.

In Resident evil there Two kind of Zombie the First zombie Can see you Other second zombie blind but can sense your blood heat your still alive where you go they follow you if you far away enough they cannot sense your blood heat.

The walking dead zombie they can see but they sharp hard to kill if you pro in kill there no problem to kill them plus this zombie are stalkers better go away to them why they increase more number by calling they fellow zombie by use they sound if you had car or motor bike better go away to them soon.

I love the way the puppy took the can of ginger soy beef and ran off! XD I wish Kurumi had been able to load up on food before she had to leave, though. Doesn't seem like the girls were able to gather much this trip except for a writing pen, a teddy bear, an alarm and two extra mouths to feed.

I wonder how far in the manga this show is going to go, and if there will be another season. I like that we're getting all the flashbacks out of the way, but once that's done I'd like a second season with a consistently flowing timeline.

My guess: they had a friend ready to play a movie. Zombies are easily distracted and seem to partly remember their old lives so if a movie started playing they'd likely start watching it.

Something is strange. It appeared that onset of zombocalypse was pretty chaotic and it happened during a day, yet girls could somehow just drive to their destination unhindered. I would expect roads to be jammed with crashed cars and littered with corpses.

Also the mall was packed with people but now there are no corpses at all. It's... pretty tidy, considering.

The fact that a couple of girls seem to be the only survivors worries me as well. I don't expect too much, but my suspension of disbelief is really tested here when not even token explanation is given.

we didn't see what happened during their way to the mall, they may have encountered some obstacles, we can't know

copses, there are no corpses, any corpse becomes a zombie, and zombies move, so in a way the corpses moves away xD
as suggested by yuuri, since the zombies are partly acting on their previous memories they moved away since it was a week day

Great episode of Gakkou Gurashi! We finally see how the girls ended up meeting and finding Miki. The place that Miki was living in was filled with zombies and she was basically trapped so thank goodness those girls went on a field trip that day. When Yuki had that brief, vague flashback of Megu-nee being attacked by zombies, it pretty much confirms that Megu-nee is indeed dead and turned into a zombie and no longer here anymore. I paid close attention to Kurumi and Yuuri interacting with Megu-nee and they never talked to her directly once or even looked at her. Even subtle hints like Yuki saying 'what about Megu-nee' and Kurumi was like 'she'll be fine' and then suddenly Megu-nee appeared right after. The OST was really good and fit perfectly with how creepy it sounded and made some of the scenes more intense.

I was wondering how the scenario outside the school would look (and be handled by the cast) and they did a decent job of it IMO.
I was happy to see them put an explanation for the zombie (if only a small one) about their movements (in which they have some recollection of their past life) As i can't stress it enough when zombie shows don't talk about the zombies at all. For instance, Origins (how it started), how they hunt, etc.

I'm starting to grow fond of Kurumi more and More each episode. But that Scene where she opened the BARRED door made cringe slightly. idk bout everyone else but if i saw a barred door in a zombie Apocalypse i'd be less inclined to open it.
the true leader of the group is Yuuri, and good on her for thinking on the spot how to handle the large group of zombies.

And then theirs Kei...who's probably either dead or Long gone. Speaking of which the OP now shows her surrounded by zombies in the mall, so it's probably safe to assume she's already dead?

So Yuki saw Megu-nee's death and that's why she went into denial. Interesting.

I really liked this episode, it had right amount of action and feels to it. I just wonder how long they will stay in flashback mode... because at this point I'm thinking if it wouldn't have been better to air those episode before first three.

Kurumi is so cute In that swimsuit and Rii-san's oppai ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Meeting with Taroumaru was pretty fun! Yuki was adorable as always!
The cinema was creepy it was full of zombies.
Kurumi is a strong girl, I wouldn't bother opening that door.
Mii-kun going out and trying to find Taroumaru and the others.
I thought they were gonna leave Mii-kun behind.
But thanks to Taroumaru and Yuki, they ended up following them and saved her.

Yuki seeing a flashback when Megu-nee was tring to save them and ended up dying.
This confirms the death of Megu-nee.

how both the anime and manga handled this flashback is good, but you didn't know it was a flashback until they found out about taromaru and miki. in other words, there should have been a clearer explanation of it being a flashback, because the scenes with the school gang in the last episode made you think it was still the present time, and not months into the zombie outbreak. i'm still enjoying the anime/manga, but i just wanted to point that confusion out.

Hm... I noticed that episode 4 was showing a flashback because Miki was at the mall when the outbreak began, and she is conspicously absent from most of the school scenes, suggesting that those school scenes are concurrent with Miki being at the mall. Episode 4 ends with them in the car, and episode 5 continues with them still in the car. I might have been helped by reading somewhere else that Miki wasn't with them from the start though.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but... I really did not pick up that Megumi was one of Yuki's delusions. Maybe I should avoid reading this forum due to spoilers. >.< Rewatching this anime from the start after finishing it will probably be interesting.

Things that suggest Megumi is not a delusion:
-She doesn't vanish from the story permanently like Yuki's classmates in episode 1.
-Other characters are seemingly able to talk to her. The idea that they're talking to her even though she isn't there is... workable, but a little contrived. (Arguably, only as contrived as Yuki talking to her classmates in an empty classroom.) They'd have to carry a conversation with a person that only Yuki could see and hear. Contrast this with episode 1, in which Miki noticeably fails to perceive any of the students in Yuki's delusion. (Although it could be argued that Yuki is constantly giving them enough information to perceive Megumi.)
-She is able to protect Yuki from the zombie in the library. That seems like a difficult task for one of Yuki's delusions.

Things that suggest Megumi is a delusion:
-She is strangely absent in a lot of scenes and shots.
-She interacts mostly with Yuki.
-Kurumi drove the car. You'd think they wouldn't resort to that, unless Megumi really wasn't there. (Fair to say, delusions can't drive.)

Lastly... Kurumi, the cinema is barricaded from the outside. That implies the inside is compromised. >.>

Yep and that's part of the enjoyment of reading the forums, and seeing everyone's speculation/guesses on what's going on or what's going to happen next.

What makes forum reading even more entertaining is how the anime is changing some things from the manga so even the manga readers or second guessing themselves in certain area's of the show. >:)

I think my favorite thing about this anime so far has been how engaging it is with it's audience. Every episode I find myself watching it over again just to see if I missed any clues or subtle hints. It's also made it fun to come to these forums and see if someone else spotted something that I missed.
Not many anime's have done that for me so at the moment Gakkou Gurashi is my favorite anime of the year.

Though I do have a few gripes with the logic of the actions taken by the characters.

Being chased by the horde of zombies could have been prevented if Kurumi just barricaded the door again. At least that could have served to buy them some more time and possibly even prevent Miki from being cornered. And at the end of the encounter, they were just walking out of the mall. What happened to being chased by the zombies? Apparently the noise was enough to stun the zombies so they can take their sweet time to calmly walk towards their escape vehicle.

Yeah this show is full of logic issues.
RukuYano said:
...Hell, if anything, it's actually like she's actively trying to make things much much worse. Good thing Rii stopped her before doing something catastrophically stupid such as pulling the string on the emergency alarm for no good reason. Kudos to Rii, and Kurumi. I don't think I'd be able to survive an apocalypse with someone like Yuki in the team.

Yeah she still continues to annoy me, more so here than in the manga. Because while she was still annoying in the manga, she almost never does anything that would put the group in danger unlike here where she was constantly making loud noises that could lure the zombies to them.

I mean other than that I enjoyed this episode, even though its another god damn flashback, at least its a lot more enjoyable than last week's episode.

Wasn't a bad episode, but probably my least favorite.

Simply because the way they reacted when Miki was in trouble was really stupid. They ran after Yuki to save her, and when Yuuri caught up, she literally saw the same sight as Yuki; Miki was standing there in trouble. And she didn't even really acknowledge it. Had Yuki not broke free and run in to save her, they probably would've stood there and watched her die.

The other stupid thing was that strap siren thing. What fucking little strap toy is so loud that it vibrates a mall lobby and can cause hearing damage and completely stun zombies? I would've believed it had they used an actual like device that could pull that off, but some cellphone strap-like thing really didn't make the scene remotely convincing.

The good thing is we completely confirmed Megu-nee's death this episode.
Lots of spoilers dropped this ep:
- Megu-nee was completely ignored by the other girls. In some of the other episodes it looked like they were talking to her just to humor Yuki, but not this time.
- There were a lot of scenes where she wasn't shown at all when she should be. The stair climbing scene: they showed the 3 girls shadows. Megu should've been right behing Yuuri, yet her shadow wasn't there. She's also taller than Yuuri, so when they showed everyone approaching the top of the stairs and you could see Yuuri's head...you should've been able to see Megu's as well. Some scenes where they were running she vanished: when they were on the upper floors and running, all 3 girls were super close together yet Megu-nee wasn't shown...but in the scenes where she WAS shown running with them, she was just as close together. If she existed, she should've been shown in every running scene.
- The teddy bear scene. There's no real reason for her to decline the gift from Yuki unless she wasn't a physical manifestation and literally unable to receive it.
- And of course, the flashback Yuki has where Megu-nee is being swallowed up into darkness and a sea of zombies. Pretty much the nail in the coffin there.

I happened to look at another thread too, and they had pics of all the teasers and easter eggs from ep.1. The quick flash we saw of the cross on the rooftop garden had a ribbon tied around it. It looked an awful lot like the ribbon Megu-nee wears.

Rape alarms really do look innocuous like that and are very loud. I know because someone once set off a bunch of them and threw them onto a roof at my school as a prank :p
Things like that definitely exist so don't let that ruin your immersion.
Now you're wondering if there's white text in any of my other posts.

Over there, I'm everywhere. I know that.

1. as icirate stated, unless you have seen one of these alarms in action, don't go assuming they don't work or something. =w=
i tried looking for a demonstration video, but all i find are different type of rape prevention alarms and i don't really know how they are named in japanese to do a better search -w-
I have heard similar alarms come from very tiny objects tho

i just putted the picture of yuki's flashback

that is still not a confirmation.
there are so many things shown each episode that are clearly there, just not pointed out to the viewer yet.
unless the anime itself has absolutely clearly voiced it out, treat it as a spoiler.
a flashback is still not a complete confirmation.

please put a spoiler.

what can i say... intense? lol
please give me more back stories!

i still regret on why i looked back on that sudden blurred flashback.

this series reminded me of Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 based on how the main character denies reality.
