I know the feeling, but I know I'll probably have watched like 500 by the time i'm 18-20

So i'm alright.

Plus I like relishing my anime anyway. Rushing through anime for the sake of saying you've watched a lot of anime is just...pathetic

Maybe we have more stanklems here on MAL, meaning people read the summary of an anime and put the show in their list, easy as that!

Generally, most people would watch all that anime one episode at a time. The same would be for all the people who read so much manga, one page at a time.

But on a more serious tone.

For a lot of people, anime is their chosen source of media, while others might watch the news or play a game, those people would sit and watch anime. Some people who don't or can't work might fill their days in with several episodes of anime. Others like my self have been plugging away for 10 or so years (Though I've managed to complete quite a few series thanks to an injury over the past few weeks)

Don't rush something you enjoy (Though I'm a tad guilty of rushing, I've managed quite a few series the past few weeks) and there's no competition for having the most series names on a digital list. I doubt it would help get you a job. Unless it's with something like a quality control panel or something else along those lines, if that's what you want to be, then by all means keep filling that list.

How? By skipping a lot of American TV programming and other foreign films/shows. ... Why you miss out "The Seventh Seal", "Justified", "The 400 Blows" and "Archer"?
I got nothing against watching mainly Anime, but... you live one life. Gotta expand your horizons before time runs out.

Yeah, while I'm sure we'd get a quality interview with IntroverTurtle asking the questions, it wouldn't have the same comedy value as Date-chan.

Not true, out of what you just listed there, I watch both Archer and Justified, among quite a few others that aren't anime. Now, I haven't seen as much as some others have, but I do still get through my fair share of anime.

Why would anyone need tips to watch more anime. If you watch it just to increase your total time spent watching or whatever then your missing the point. When I had more time I used to watch more anime but now I can barely get a few episodes in. Recently I started chatting with other members on a daily basis so I have even less time but since I'm still having fun it dosnt matter.

This was all stated above me but I'll second it.
1. Some people have seen a lot of ova's and specials.
2. A lot of the users might be older have have more experience with anime.
3. Some users may have similar ages but that dosnt mean they started watching at the same time.

I can only second the opinion of the majority here. Do not watch anime solely for the purpose of increasing your completed list or whatever. There is of course also a personal side to it. During school I often only watch one to two episode in the evening to kinda relax before going to bed, because I simply don't have time watching anime during daytime. If there is nothing planned for the weekend/holidays I'll spent a lot more time watching anime, sometimes even marathoning 24+ episodes shows in 2 days. In the end it's all really up to personal preference. If you want to watch 12 episodes a day and your schedule allows it, do it. If you'd rather enjoy your anime over a week or two, do it that way.

Edit:

Also, don't think anyone will hate you for not having seen X or having watched Y amount of shows. People will realize and hopefully tolerate that you are new to all of this or simply don't have that much time on your hands.

I agree. So much of what I enjoy I've already watched and can't really imagine watching more than one or two series in a season. I'd have a long ways to go... Right now is actually the most I've watched in 6 months.

I don't really see how someone could be bored of an entire medium with tons of different genres, demographics and types of media whose volume is constantly increasing season by season . Always so much interesting things to watch but only so little time to do it, in my opinion.

There are literally hundreds of users who change their names regularly on MAL for various reasons. Getting sick of your old name or seeing a new show that you want to name yourself after would be possible reasons, but there's really dozens of possible reasons one can think of, unless you lack any imagination.
I probably regret this post by now.

Watching long anime like Naruto would downgrade on how much you watch cause it's 600 episodes strong.. Unless you started from the beginning which would of been 11 years ago (Rough estimate).

I also follow video games, visual novels, manga, film, TV, music, sports, literature and go to university every single weekday. Bigger lists are the result of many years watching, not constant marathoning. My list could have been twice the size it is now without doing any damage to my life.

I randomly click on people's profiles and I notice them having over 500 items and I can't understand where you get the time to do this. Hell, some profiles have over a 1000 and I was in shock at the sheer magnitude. The most anime I can watch in a day is like 13 episodes and then I need a break.

When did you start this? How long does it take it you marathon? Tips perhaps to get through more anime?

Time. Some people have a lot of time of their hands, or it could be that they simply devote a lot of their free time towards watching anime. Everyone has their speed. In addition, someone who started watching shows earlier may have a lot of entries on their list as well.

Okay so I've been watching anime since 12 years now and I've only completed about 120 anime. When I joined this forum and found the anime lists of people having like 500 to 1000 anime completed, I was totally embarrassed. I felt like I had to catch up to them soon. But then I realized that can never happen. I just like to watch very few shows that intrigue me. I don't think I can ever watch it for just for the heck of it, I make sure I enjoy whatever I watch. So don't worry about completing as many as possible within a short time. All that matters is for you to be able to enjoy the anime that you're watching.

Each season adds about 20 or so series, depends on your taste. So if you follow airing ones, it racks up the count fast. You'll never know what you enjoy unless you try them all out.

I doubt you're gonna run out of shows that would intrigue you. But I agree, everyone has their own pace. Sometimes I only watch a few episodes a week. On many days I don't watch any anime, but usually when I do, it's at least 3 episodes in a row. Sometimes I do marathon several days in a row, but only if I feel like it.

Haha yes, there are so many good ones out there for me to watch since I've finished watching only a few series. Talking about the pace, the same goes for me. In all these years, there were times when I watched about 20 episodes a day and there were times when I watched none. I keep taking regular breaks as it is highly impossible for me to watch them continuously.
