The most relaxed episode in a long time. And probably the last one that is to this extent as well.

01:55 - op changed?

Namaka...

He gave them five. Was the fifth supposed to be Tsumugu or Miuna?

Manaka is such a child... it was refreshing at first. All the others have become rather sullen, after all. But then it started getting annoying again. But why is she so different in her reaction? And has she really forgotten what she said to Hikari just before the Ofunehiki? She didn't react to Chisaki talking about that being just yesterday for her. Has she lost some of her memory of something?

So Tsumugu has been cursed by Uroko. Was he listening in on the conversation about porn mags?
He must be on the land, which is... interesting.

I think you are right. Also, that scene where Hikari tells her about how Akira likes her and she is lost as if she doesn't know what that means :(

To be blunt, I really dislike such slow episodes like this. They literally leave the plot moving scenes at the end all the time.

Manaka is the core of the group. In previous episodes Kaname talks about how she's the one who holds everyone together. Seeiing her be all happy may be symbolizing how the group can finally move on with their lives because she's so accepting to what she saw. Unlike Hikari who had a temper tantrum and never wants to change.

BUT - it was weird. All she could "spot the difference" was the snow. It seems as if she's hiding something (her true feelings) or is just clueless.

I doubt the Sea God "took" her emotions away. In the legend when the sacrificial bride wanted to leave, so he took her ena. He only tried to persuade her to make her stay - not forcefully take her emotions. Manaka just has something up. I figured she wouldn't remember that event anyway.

Chisaki and Tsugumu are so comfortable with each other, it's nice/awkward/dull all at the same time. They already act like they're married but they're not which makes it weird. No progress = big sigh.

All in all, a pretty weird and monotone episode that leaves more questions and just re-confirms that something is up.

I fucking love this show. Yeah I'm really interested in what the hell is going on with Manaka and her memories. Also that opening... scaring the shit out of me with Manaka and Miuna being dragged down. Things are sure to get interesting as we enter the final 5 episodes! No matter what happens this show will always hold a special place in my heart though.

ALSO I think that at this point it's clear that SOMEBODY needs to become the Ofuneki or shits going down. I think that the sea god blessed Miuna with ena because he wants her to be the new Ofuneki now that Manaka is gone, but idk. I can't see her ending up as the Ofuneki, and I think in the end Manaka will go beck to being it. But I don't think there's any other solution to preventing the freezing of the world besides someone being the Ofuneki, whether it's Manaka, Miuna, Chisaki, or Kaname (cuz he's basically a girl anyways). Either way, I feel a tearjerker for an ending.

The Japanese kind of value their silence, though. Watch any independent Japanese film; you don't know true "silence" until you live through those moments...

Chisaiki's actions alone pretty much spoke for her that she wasn't exactly happy that Tsumugu was leaving whether it was just because she'll be lonely (the only adult out of the group) or a mixture of actually missing him too.

I don't know if anyone noticed - what, again, highlighted why Chisaki and Tsumugu are different from the other kids (besides the obvious age difference) is how the age difference actually affects them. Chisaki gave the sweet salt cream puffs to the kids, while she had coffee jelly (a bitter food) with Tsumugu. Bitter food usually indicates you're an "adult", lol. But interestingly enough, Chisaki made the mistake of eating something sweet afterwards, distorting her taste... makes you think maybe it's a way to show how Chisaki is still stuck between being her friends' age (14) versus her real age like Tsumugu (19). I believe that is what makes her the most lonely, particularly with her counterpart leaving for university (in terms of understanding her).

And then... other things people have already noted~

I love you. I completely agree and saw that too in the episode. Them eating in silence with references with the food OBVIOUSLY meant something for Chisaki's internal struggle with her friends and her feelings with Tsugumu. The point wasn't to show that they're awkward together.

How many times do you think they sat down at dinner together and ate in silence? It's not weird to them. And Tsugumu's news to her wasn't the best one either.

Can't tell if she still has feelings for Tsumugu or her emotions were just completely wiped out, but I can tell one thing: she really loves the fucking snow lmao. Chisaki x Tsumugu just took a giant step backwards :\

Also at 17:56 did Tsumugu just receive Ena? or was that the fish curse lol

Not saying it wont happen, unfortunately I think it will, just saying that the feeling isn't right yet, something big will have to change.

Akari is such a great character,She has fought hard to make her life happy and I think she is content as fuck now. From that scene last episode where she knew miuna wasn't sick, to her boss like reflexes to help Akira she is showing her strength and caring nature.

Yeah I really don't like the prospect of ChisakixTsumugu for some reason, and as much as I don't want that to happen, I'm on the same boat as you where thinking "unfortunately it will happen." I think the "big" change that will happen is the passing of the grandfather, which would be a really lame way to get them together. "Hey, your grandfather died, let's be a couple" which would be incredibly stupid. Everyone is struggling with their love they get the easy out.

Good episode, Manaka looks too happy, maybe she's hiding her true feelings.
Chisaki is just hanging out with her usual crew despite the fact that she's 19... I felt a bit awkward with that... I know that it's great to have your friends back but now there's a age gap. Tsumugu has to do something like confessing to her, maybe that will help.
There were some scenes in this episode where Chisaki had rare behavior like the coffee jelly one.
And Tsumugu is cursed now they have to find Uroko-sama, he surely is near.
The preview sounds interesting.

Still, her 'dead' eyes were pretty ominous... unsure if that is some kind of foreshadowing.

I usually don't post in these forums, but I just wanted to say: Thank you for pointing out the Japanese love for silence.
Those moments of silence obviously resonate with the Japanese fanbase, considering how popular the Tsumugu/Chisaki ship has gotten over there.

But there is the hope the next one will be huge.

Keeping it at 9/10, but god damn it, this show had the potential to be one great 10/10 if they chose to develop relationships instead of dragging everything till the last episode.

Lainosuke I loved your post :) I was going to say something similar with regards to cream puffs, but the coffee jelly and being more adult passed me by. I was thinking about the symbolism with the 5 cream puffs. We don't know who the fifth cream puff was for, as it was originally given by Sayama. One would think that it would either be for Tsumugu or for Miuna, but in the end, Chisaki wasn't part of the 5 and instead Sayu became included, who is also the same as her Shioshishio friends. It was sad to see Chisaki in the rooftop scene because you can tell that she didn't feel entirely comfortable, or she didn't feel like she belonged, especially when Sayu and Manaka started talking about what they're learning in class. And this is also part of the change Chisaki was so scared about, there's less things that they can all talk about, or things she can relate to since they're different ages. Now Chisaki is feeling what Tsumugu kind of felt 5 years ago, not fitting in. I love how Tsumugu says that Chisaki was the one who would be lonely. He really understands her.

And Manaka, it seemed to me that she was trying too hard to be cheerful. That's why there was that scene when Kaname asks Hikari how he felt when he first woke up...neither of them were completely fine and it took some time for them to get used to the changes, yet, Manaka was there acting like her normal self and having fun.

Lastly, wow Tsumugu is cursed by Uroko-sama?!? o_o this is getting even more interesting, and now they'll have a reason to look for him again.

I dont care what anybody else says. I think kanamexchisaki would still be better than tsumuguxchisaki. i just dont feel anything for or sympathize with tsumugu. i sympathize more with kaname more than anything else. He actually lost everything, including chisaki. but his chances are pretty low from what i can see. in the end it'll probably be tsumuguxchisaki. i just hope they at least execute it correctly. like, without the main cause being grandpa's death or something stupid like that :/

That's quite an interesting theory :O Now that I think about it, it's entirely possible!

Manaka's empty eyes and what happened to Akira disturbed me a little. Actually, when I was watching that scene, I had thought that Manaka was temporarily possessed by the Sea God and maybe that was what caused Akira to fall over so suddenly-- maybe the Sea God wanted to poke a little fun and disturbance into the family. Like, I rewatched that instant a couple times, and I couldn't find the cause of the baby's abrupt fall, which was exactly what kinda spooked me out, plus Manaka's eyes... *shudders*

But hmm... now I'm almost certain that Manaka lost the emotion of love/lost the memories of her love(s). How cruel of that sea bastard ;_;

This was said by someone on this page a few posts ago but yeah: also noted that when they first get the sweet cream puffs, Chisaki says there are 5 so there's 1 too many for the 4 of them - but then Sayu and Miuna join, and Chisaki quietly leaves. Someone then says "there's 5, just enough for all of us." Followed by the scene with Chisaki and Tsumugu eating the coffee jelly, pretty heavy hints that Chisaki is going to move on.

BUT GOD DAMN THIS ANIME IS JUST, good. I think in reality tsumuguxchisaki could be possible but it's also possible she doesn't want to be anything more than friends. It's possible she'll grow up to like someone that isn't in their group.

I think the reason why Tsugumu was cursed was the sea god's way of saying "STOP snooping around". As for Manaka I think the sea god might of possessed her. Also one of the things that I don't like about Tsugumu is that he show as much emotion as grass blowing in the wind. The only emotion he showed in this episode was at the end when he was cursed.

I usually don't post in these forums, but I just wanted to say: Thank you for pointing out the Japanese love for silence.
Those moments of silence obviously resonate with the Japanese fanbase, considering how popular the Tsumugu/Chisaki ship has gotten over there.

Wow, I hope other romance anime actually get the point - its getting utterly annoying seeing the same couple relationships (aka Hikari-Manaka) over and over again. More main characters like Tsumugu pls.

Feels like something is coming, not really sure what tho.
New scene in OP with Manaka and Miuna. If something happens to Miuna i'll...:<

It was a good episode, really sad for Chisaki.Feels like she doesnt belong with everone there because of age difference, which sucks.Hopefully she will find some happiness with Tsumugu? i dont know.
Seems like Kaname is going to ask Chisaki out next episode? well, thats good, its about time for them to talk with each other and possibly end it.
This show is keeping its great level, cant wait to see the final, but then again i dont want it to end because it became part of my week.I'll sure miss it in future.

I knew it all along... TSUMUGU X FISH!
You can see how happy he is when he sees the fish. You don't even see him like that when he is with Chisaki.
ALL ABOARD TSUMUGU X FISH!

This episode was a little too cheerful, I feel like a serious feelstorm is coming next week.
"May those who accept their fate be granted happiness."

"May those who defy their fate be granted glory."

Manaka!
Alot of Chisaki and Tsumugu, but Chisaki is so frustrating to watch sometimes T_T

I honestly think this is what turned me off the anime. I loved the anime, but just watching Chisaki made me mad for some reason. I couldn't take it.
