Despite SAO being a low-tier harem and having a laughable story, I found it quite enjoyable because of the premise and the animation. Will watch.

Can't wait for the flame war. It's going to be a really exciting one, as for SAO, I don't care a little bit.

Also, why is it called Sword Art Online II, if there are no more swords but guns?
Why is Kirito a female? Why I have this sensation about overly doses of useless fanservice? Why am I crying?

This is why we have bad things and you deserve it.

There is Light Saber Sword in gun gale online.
Light saber sword is very weak weapon, no one use it.

But Kirito use it, and he's strong.
Kirito Badass as usual.

A pain?
Let's do it the A-1 way !

>Remove every inner dialogue
>focus on important plot point without caring about pre and post development
>focus on Kirito doing flashy things
>pantsu of female characters
>extra episode where Kirito, Alice and Eugeo go to swim no matter how illogical it is
>put the whole alicization arc in a 24 episodes season
>dance as they made the shittiest adaptation known to mankind

Err... Let's resume.
Removing inner dialogue, focusing on important points, focusing on flashy things, ecchi things, and the main character, extra episode that is crappy and doesn't makes sense, 8-9 LN volumes in a 24 episode series so about 3 episodes per volume...

Yep, yep. That's about what every single LN adapted gets served. Except that most of them never get 24 episode, let alone a second season.
Stop complaining, SAO doesn't have it half as bad as some other LN adapted. And that's definitely not "A-1 style". LN that didn't get served this during their anime adaptation are only the lucky one.

There is a difference here.
Inner dialogue are SAO's core, they ammount for about 70%-90% of every volumes and you cannot make the story without them. Yet none of that is ever present in the anime adaptation because they turned it into something that it is not.

Most LN adaptation are rushed, I agree. Still it is not that common that a LN is destroyed at it's core like SAO was. I'm not talking about scenes I wish were adapted because I liked them, I'm talking about dialogue that are essential for the story to make sense not being there.

Most LN are poor work of litterature (I said most, not all) but SAO is a LN that manage to stand out. Don't get me wrong, it's not even half as good as I make it sound and I am not saying that if it had been animated properly it would have been a great anime, far from that.

It's simply sad to see this adaptation not only 'badly adapting' the novels but completely denature the work.

1) Inner dialogue is the core of a lot of LN that were adapted. Obviously, there's no inner dialogue in the anime version at all. SAO is nothing special.
2)Don't ever assume that SAO got the short end of the stick as far as anime adaptation goes. Butchery like the cube x cursed x curious anime adaptation completely ad utterly destroyed the original work.
3) How much LN have you read before saying that most LN are "poor work of literature"? I hope that it's far more than the 3 you have recorded in your manga list, huh. Especially since those three aren't especially known for their quality. If you choose popular LN over quality, it's your choice, but please don't judge the overall quality of LN with 'that'.
4) I would say that the only reason SAO manage to stand out among LN is how much it sells? I don't consider myself to have read enough LN yet to give a proper advice on this, but according to people who read far more than me, at least that's how it seems. Again, how much LN have you read before stating that SAO is special in anything else than the sales number?

^This.

If someone wants a long list of LN that got screwed over by the anime adaptation, it's gonna be a long list. In fact, over 80-90% of the anime adaptation of LN does not live up to the original work. Same can be said of nearly all movies, TV series and etc. in comparison to the original work, whether it was anime, manga or LN. It's typically hard to surpass or even be on par with the original. Why? It takes one genius to make a masterpiece but another to make a masterpiece adaptation out of it. You need twice the effort and you need to switch medium.

SAO just happens to be the most popular one. However, the most GLARING element that IMMEDIATELY stands out in terms of differences between the adaptation and the source LN is the inner dialogues of the characters.
bla bla bla
The endless debate between fans and haters. At one point, after spending a lot of time on MAL, you just realize it's totally pointless.

Sturgeons's law 90 percent is shit.
Popular LN is usually about echhi, harem, incest or Gary Stu.
Most light novel have that thing.

Most popular light novel have it. If ecchi is fairly common, the other three are mainly seen in very specific publishing labels.
Because it sells well, outside of Japan that's the light novels you'll hear the most about. Don't ever assume that it makes the majority of it.
Just like in most media, if you want to find quality, you usually need to search a bit more than in sales number.

Doing that could turn you off from SAO 2, though. The second arc of the first season is that bad...
5 main aspects I base my ratings on:
1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it?
2. Is it better than Breaking Bad?
3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it?
4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL?
5. Is it actually good?

Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant...

Sturgeon's law apply to everything.
Most hollywood movies is shit. Plot holes everywhere, deus ex machina.
Yes 90 percents are shit.

Lets hope for more high quality art from A-1 like this
http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r163/slicer18/Untitled11.png

That really is not a one off you could probably find hundreds of them if you rewatch it (though every time i think about rewatching it now the blu rays are done i feel zero motivation and ended up rewatching Kyoukaisenjou no Horizon instead.)

Though i will watch the next season of sword art online since GGO was probably one of the better arcs when i read it.

My god, what I find the most annoying is people who say "Oh I'm going to laugh through this whole series because of how terrible it is" or "I guess I'll give it a shot." Like.. seriously? How many anime are there that you can just laugh at how terrible it is? In fact, was the first season REALLY so terrible that it was laughable? As for the people who are going to "give it a shot" or "don't have the time," what the hell are you guys going to spend your time doing? You guys are reading a thread about a show you're all bashing on when you could have finished like 3 episodes of another anime already. You all have 20 minutes a week to sit down and watch GGO. You can cut out 20 minutes of your sleep schedule if you work from sun up to sun down or are in school for that long, which isn't even possible really. Anyone who tries to justify that they don't please just leave. Either just don't watch it or spend 20 minutes watching the show which is probably more productive than something else you would have done with that time instead.

And let's not forget about Ufotable's upcoming adaptation of Fate/Stay Night, the day when Ufotable provides what and how they'll cover, there's bound to be fanboys that'll be cheering and/or complaining. So along with the other shows coming up, this could be one hell of a year. I'm assuming though, that from what I'm seeing, SAO II can have the biggest flame war yet.

The arcs used in the first season were pretty shit to start with, and I hated SAO. but I actually kinda enjoyed gun gale online, so I'll be pissed if they fuck it up again.
If it's a 24 episode series, I wonder what they're gonna do for part 2. since gun gale will probably cover the same amount of episodes as SAO and alfheim, but alicization is a lot longer and I'm pretty sure it isn't even finished yet.

I though season 1 sucked too, but people shouldn't hate on season 2 because of that.

I loved when a new arc started in the LN, and got super excited when the fairy arc started even though I knew it wasn't better. It's probably because they're so different, for example with each one, the worry of dying got smaller. In the second arc some of your progress in travelling gets deleted along with a penalty, in the third arc I think it's just a penalty and in the last one the idea of dying is simply insane, but at the same time, it's not even a game any more.

What I really enjoyed about GGO is how the mood is much darker and there is a lot more suspense. GGO is more of an investigation/detective work story and I've always liked things like that. Some examples that GGO's feel gave off are Darker than Black, Ergo Proxy, and Psycho-Pass.
