Well, my college roommate introduced me to anime about 6 months ago. I had just completed True Detective and I was hunting for something new to sink my greedy fangs into when I saw that he was watching Full Metal Alchemist (2003) on his laptop. At first, I was incredulous that a 19-year-old could enjoy something that looked so.... um.. cartoonish but as I had nothing else to watch I decided to give it a shot. Since then, I never looked back.

I got into anime after I saw an AMV of a song I liked in 9th grade. I thought that the video was cool so I looked up the show, which turned out to be Fullmetal Alchemist. FMA was the first anime I watched and I've been hooked ever since.

(Technically I've been watching anime before FMA, however, if you count things like Pokemon/Digimon/Yu-gi-oh... Also Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away) :P

I was in forums and saw many people who had anime signatures.
I opened a thread there what is that.
They told me it's good.
They suggested me to watch Naruto (my friend also started Naruto at about the same time)
I watched Naruto a lot, but in the middle found out about SNK, SAO, One Piece and those.
I've seen that there are many other anime, less known but also enjoyable.

I always liked art. Ten years ago, when I was 7, anime drawings and manga catched my attention and I started drawing it because I thought it was interesting and the designs were cool. Also, I liked DBZ, One Piece, Shin Chan, Keroro, BoBoBo, etc but I dindn't know they were anime too. Five or four years ago, when I was searching some drawings to inspire me and create my own characters, I saw a show called ''Death Note'' and I fell in love with the design, so I watched it. I was really obsessed with Death Note and anime back then. I searched more and more anime to watch, and anime became my addiction. I registered here and put on my list all the shows I remembered I've watched (+100). Today, I still think Death Note is one of the best shows that I've seen (sorry, but I think Kuroshitsuji is the best).

I watched some anime as a kid like Yu-Gi-Oh, Beyblade, Dragonball Z and Pokemon, not knowing what anime really was. Then one fateful day in 2013 I watched a Team Fortress 2 "poop" video where the Attack on Titan theme was used and well, here I am today, addicted.

I don't know how it happened, but after Pokémon came Infinite Stratos and then Yosuga no Sora... I swear I didn't know what the latter was about until I was midway and couldn't stop anymore...

Grew up watching fox kids, kids wb, and toon disney

Was always a huge cartoon person, I used to watch Disney cartoon movies alot

I just found the anime artstyl
e 100x more attractive after pokemon started and I fell in love with the girls 100x more than I did w American cartoons

Same with the monsters and just everything looked better to me, so I started only watching anime on TV

Then when I got a laptop in 2008 I started watching anime online in 2009 since I had time in college

I would always love watching Dragon Ball, DBZ, and Yuyu Hackusho as a little kid, then I really got into One Piece, Fairy Tail, Bleach and some of Naruto during my pre-teens.

But what really got me into anime was when I watched AnoHana. Someone recommended this masterpiece to me and I just assumed it would be 'okay' since it wasn't as mainstream as what I was used to. It turns out that show would make anime as a sort of hobby of mine and broadened my tastes to most kinds of it.

it was when ghost in the shell stand alone complex was broadcastet by mtv germany back in 2006. as a big sci-fi fan i had almost seen all of the good sci-fi movies and longed for more "input".
so one evening while zapping through the midnight program, the opening of SAC just started. it was amazing and i decided to give it a try.
i watched anime like neon genesis evangelion, heidi, princess mononoke, pokemon and co before, but it never triggered any interest in anime as a medium like gits did.

thank you ghost in the shell for hours of entertainment

I used to play competitive game(s) untill I started working full-time and pretty much lost interest in competitive gaming, when I randomly stumbled upon some anime streaming sites and just started watching the best/highest rated ones on that particular site and just kept blasting through anime(s) ever since.

..and now I'm going to celebrate my first post on the MAL forums...

I'd watched some anime as a kid but wasn't 'into anime'. I was really into Dragon ball Z, Pokemon and Digimon.

When I went to university my housemate got me watching Black Lagoon and FMA:B. That was the point I started picking shows because they were anime.

About two years after that I went to a anime night (bunch of friends and a projector). That sparked me to start watching at a faster pace and really got me hooked.

When I was in elementary school (early- mid 2000's) I watched Pokemon on Kids WB and I watched the full series of Speed Racer on DVD's and VHS's that my dad got me because he enjoyed it growing up. I didn't know those were even Japanese for years though.

I just generally came across anime on the internet as a young teen and got interested in it (this was around 2009). I later tried out Initial-D (2013) and though it was pretty good but I couldn't find much other anime that interested me because I was always hearing about show that I couldn't get into like Naruto for example

When I was in High School (2013) I joined an anime club but most of the stuff they showed I still couldn't get into, later in 2015 I tried out Toonami after learning what it was and I watched Attack on Titan and found it okay and I also watched Cowboy Bebop, Mitchiko to Hatchin and Space Dandy off Toonami and loved them. Later I tried out shows like Death Note and Wolfs Rain and I loved them and I was hooked after that.

I also figured out why I couldn't get into animes other people were saying were amazing, They were all Shounen and I learned that I always liked Snienes far better, I don't really hate Shounens I just could never really get into them.

Back in the good old days, when the Cartoon Network actually cared about anime, (instead of Family Guy, etc!!!), I watched Sailor Moon, it was not really geared towards adults but was better than most animations I have seen. I also read Manga like Uresei Yatsura and found that anime was a good alternative to American entertaining, most of which was and is now dominated by lame reality shows like The Bachelor or Duck Dynasty, etc!, or boorish animations like Family Guy, etc.

My first anime experience was when i was 4, i really liked Bakugan battle brawers, but i just started actually watching anime later.
5 years ago, a friend kept bugging me to watch One Piece, i got really hooked, but my mom would only let me watch 2 episodes per day. And finished one piece in a year.
After that i tried Fairy tail, Naruto, but i wasn't that hooked and i didn't watch anime for a long time.
Then, the same friend that introduced me One Piece, told me about Code Geass, i got REALLY hooked.
Now i watch anime everyday!

First of all, I probably should say that I always had pretty high tolerance to pretty much everything. Therefore, I always liked the anime drawing style. I think it played the main role in my story :3
I watched a little of Pokemon and Naruto when I was about 7-12.
About 2-3 year ago (I'm 19 now) I felt nostalgic and tried to start Pokemon over. Then I got bored and dropped it. Soon after I went to the Netherlands to study, so being alone for most of the time I found a video on YouTube by FineBrothers about "Attack on Titan", I thought it was pretty interesting, so I watched it, liked it...and...Then I watched Oreimo, because I wanted to watch a comedy anime next, since you can't go wrong with that. Oreimo is actually partly about liking anime and dealing with it, so I got kinda lucky there. It helped me understand that I want anime to be a part of my life (as a hobby though, screw "anime for life" stuff). That's pretty much it^^

When I was younger, I watched DBZ and DBZ Kai. Before the summer of 9th grade, I tried to get into Naruto. Then in December 2013, I started watching Death Note. I instantly fell in love with the show and gave anime a shot and never looked back. Like most American fans, I started off with English dub but now like sub more. I chose not to read manga because I thought it was time consuming, but still gave it a chance and love reading long battle manga.

Happy that I got into anime. 😊😁
"While many can pursue their dreams in solitude, other dreams are like great storms blowing hundreds, even thousands of dreams apart in their wake. Dreams breathe life into men and can cage them in suffering. Men live and die by their dreams. But long after they have been abandoned they still smolder deep in men's hearts. Some see nothing more than life and death. They are dead, for they have no dreams."

Once upon a time, I was in 6th grade (three years ago), and my friend on the bus had recently gotten new manga from her friend. She let me borrow it, and I was entranced. It was the middle of the series, but I just could not put it down.
Unfortunately, she'd only gotten two, so after the second one, we were both stuck in our pit of gloom.
That summer, I was bored, so one Saturday, I flipped to NickToons to give this whole Digimon thing a shot, since the channel was making a big deal out of it.
I have never stopped loving it since then.
Soon, I started reading all sorts of manga and then watched some anime, and before I knew it, anime was the best thing in my life. And the most time-consuming.
What about all of you? Did a friend get you into it, sorta like how mine did? Or did you bring yourself into it?
