Not something mainstream like Naruto or Bleach.
Take something funny, maybe Nichijou..?

If it's a girl - Any good romance-included anime.

If it's a guy - Any good shounen type anime.

If you want both - Any good comedy. Make sure they will laugh so hard.

Of course an anime with less than 30 episodes, or do you think a person who has never watched anime will watch one piece or any of the big 3?

Pretty much i agree with this. Casual viewers won't have enough time to watch hundreads of them. Though depends on the person that like that sort of thing.

Sonic X, just kidding, probably a movie like
castle in the sky, or an older anime, like robotech.

I think it doesn't matter how many episodes the anime has. what matter is if the anime has a good starting episode that can hook a noob viewer to the media.

Not everyone enjoy psychpathic killers ya know.

So no, if the person did like Breaking Bad/Dexter/the Wire/Prison Break and any other criminal-related/anti-hero shows, I'll recommend Death Note.

Btw, Dexter is super duper awesome. If anyone liked Death Note Dexter is extremely fun to watch (yes it's a TV show, not anime).

You should show them the crappiest, most fanservicy trash on earth. I'd recommend Strike Witches myself. I'm not entirely joking either. They must be able to take at least that much or they're just not cut out for it.

If you want to show them crappy fanservice shows(that have neither good/likeable characters or a decent plot), green green is a way better option.

Eh... thats kinda difficult. I would initially suggest a film like Ghost in the Shell, Akira, or Princess Mononoke. Just to see if they can get used to the style of anime and common themes/trophes before comitting several hours of their life into one series.

After that you could go one of two ways: 1) something "light" like Sword Art Online or 2) something "heavier" like Code Geass. There are plenty of great popcorn shows like Naruto or Full Metal Panic if they want worthwhile escapism. On the other hand there are a number of great shows that are mentally and emotionally draining like Neo Genesis Evangelion or Elfen Lied.

It just depends on your cup of tea I guess!

I'd say Hellsing: Ultimate. It's stylishly violent, got really badass scenes, and cool characters. Even people who hate the action genre as a whole seem to like Hellsing: Ultimate.

I'll admit that the story is a little weak, but the only reason to watch Hellsing: Ultimate is the action and characters.

^This actually worked for me. I had the same problem with books, tv, and anime. People would show me massive piles of shit, and I would do my own research to prove to myself that this type of media is not full of just shit.

And now reading, watching anime & TV, are my favorite hobbies.

Angel beats!. Converted most of my friends into anime because of that, although they were bitching to me that the last few episodes were so rushed.

The most luck I've ever had getting people interested in anime was showing my friends G Gundam. No joke, it's really hilarious and it's also super troupe-y so it gives you a pretty good idea of anime.

K-On!- It worked to get me into anime. Helps to show them just how good the Slice of Life Genre is.

Clannad- 'cos After Story is da bomb

Madoka Magica- It's the best that anime storytelling has to offer and isn't overly Japanese.

Cowboy Bebop- A very western show with one of the best English dubs ever. Also has some of best characterisation that anime has to offer. It'll help to give your friend good taste

For my brother, it was a combination of Azumanga Daioh, Angel Beats, Cowboy Bebop and Highschool of the Dead.

For my dad, it was SUPPOSED to be Cowboy Bebop... but he thought it was stupid because "ALIENS ARE STUPID AND BORING."

Never mind the fact that there are no aliens in Bebop. So I showed him Code Geass instead, he seems to be liking that.

For my best friend, Durarara.

I think it depends on the person, but I think shows like Death Note, Darker Than Black, FullMetal Alchemist ; Brotherhood and Rurouni Kenshin are more likely to grab my friends' attention. Once they've gotten into it, I'll recommend the Big 3 and likely give him a list of episodes so he can watch it without fillers.
