Greatest news of this year! I was wishing this would be animated, but I've never thought it would realize! For years, No animation companies have tried to animate Yuri works which have serious romantic relationships. They just made animes containing Yuri elements. Even Yuru Yuri, though it is definitely Yuri anime and I love this as well, wasn't that serious but was always blithe. For the time being, I have Kin iro Mosaic to watch in summer. But, I can't wait! |

This sounds pretty interesting. I haven't seen anything including serious yuri since I watched Kannazuki no Miku where the yuri even wasn't the main focus. |

So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old? I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them? I wonder how long people would put up with this. That's not really something that can be chalked up to opinions. The yuri in Yuruyuri is visbly quite weak. If you consider the content in Pokemon to be more vulgar than Kodomo no Jikan, I guess that would be an opinion too. But that doesn't change the fact that I'd have a tough time siding with something like that. |

SaberRitsu said: I will not underestimate the yuri fans in Japan like you do. And whether it is "stealing" or being inspired, or just going for the usual tropes, is debatable. If you don't like it, any troupe can be just "stealing" from somewhere else because you have to use a strongly negative word to express your dislike. Mostly because of the yuri gimmick and the fact that they haven't seen the shows it steals jokes from. SaberRitsu said: It is not just "there" and this is why I put the yuri element as one of the two major factors for its success. If it is just a gimmick, what is not a gimmick? Unless it is a full-blown/canon yuri, everything about yuri subtext in anime can be called a gimmick. And if we go this far, then perhaps it is no longer a gimmick but something that meets the demand of many yuri fans. And the yuri adds extra accent and spice to it. No, not really. It's just kind of 'there'. Hence why I refer to it as a gimmickSaberRitsu said: But then does it mean that you want to trash all but very few titles for being bad? According to your view, most yuri anime are just gimmicks and thus bad - it is a radical view that I think very few share. What is "not particularly well made" or in your view seems to be "balance well achieved" to its fans. A lot of bad things are popular. Does that meant I have to appreciate them because people liked it?SaberRitsu said: As I said it is your personal perception if you have to compare the jokes in YY to the raunchy and lowbrow one in MtS. I reserve lowbrow humor label for a lot of other anime and YY is far far away from this group. As for its jokes, sense of humor differs from person to person - if you don't like it it is fine but that does not mean the work by itself is a failure. SaberRitsu said: What is "weak" yuri when you have a number of characters who are interpreted as harboring yuri behavior pattern or yuri fantasy by fans? And some (admittedly side characters) even look like a proper yuri character? It is not even opinion, but the assertion that "yuri in YY is visibly weak" just does not stand even as a fair opinion. It is more like you are letting your personal bias at work. The yuri in Yuruyuri is visbly quite weak. If you consider the content in Pokemon to be more vulgar than Kodomo no Jikan, I guess that would be an opinion too. It's not just teasing or innuendo. They explicitly make out with each other. Not accidental or drunk or faking it. I definitely want something more serious as well but compared to what we usually get this is a giant leap. Just need to hold on longer and keep hoping... I couldn't agree more, this will not be like Yuru Yuri when it comes to romantic feelings, this will actually take love more serious, which is great. But I still do have my doubts about this. There are so many more great yuri manga, that this might not be the best choice and I really don't want to see even less yuri in anime in the future... But good thing, we at least have another yuri-ish anime adaption planned for next year. |

^ Let's not forget "Yumekui Merry" and the coming "Love Lab" which are all serialized in one of the Manga TIme Kirara magazines, Merry in Forward and Love Lab in Special. There is also Minori Scramble, but that is just one OVA... There may be others, but I'm just going off the titles Wikipedia lists. Seems the English wiki list is incomplete then.. |

Love Lab is serialized in Manga Time Special, which although does not have Kirara in it is part of the large family of manga magazine that Houbunsha publishes. I think, like its sister magazine Manga Time Jumbo, it can be grouped with the several Kirara magazines for similar art-style (moe influenced) and format (4-koma mainly). On the other hand, Houbunsha also publishes a bunch of magazines which would not fit to group with Kirara: Manga Home and Manga Time are 4-koma but the art style is not the moe type (more like family 4-koma like Sazae-san for example, though I find Raika Days quite moe); and then there is Weekly Manga Times which is not 4-koma and uses realistic gekiga art style. |

Too many magazines! I get Kirara for Yuyushiki and others and Forward for Merry and others but just can't buy all their magazines as much as I'd like to. I have an office full of "Japanese telephone books" as it is... just getting the tankobons for the rest which kills me as I hate waiting! Earth Star at least puts a cover to cover great set of manga in one monthly! And they've been doubling up on their anime adaptations lately which is how they're putting out tankobons so often and a 2nd season of Teekyuu already. |

Yeah jeeze, seems like a pretty aggressive marketing tactic to bleed the hardcore fans dry... of course that's what everything otaku-related is about in Japan, as we know all to painfully well. =P But do they actually serialize enough titles in each magazine to justify having to many? That's a lot of 4koma... Ideally they would have one must-have title per magazine so you need to buy them all... sigh. |

jmal said: I won't call it "bleed the hardcore fans dry". It is not like they are milking the same franchise in multiple ways. The multitude of the magazines only shows the diversity of the 4-koma manga and how much publishers like Houbunsha want to explore its potential - It makes sense to use different artists, with different artstyle (even moe artstyle has a wide range of styles) and different character/story premises, put them in a bunch of magazines, and see which and what attracts readers. Many of those manga are done by relatively new artists, and it is not like they have many "hardcore fans" to speak of. Yeah jeeze, seems like a pretty aggressive marketing tactic to bleed the hardcore fans dry... of course that's what everything otaku-related is about in Japan, as we know all to painfully well. =P One thing that I see western fans often gripe about is their dismissal and dislike of 4-koma. This often goes along with the dismissal and dislike of slice-of-life but as I said before, both SoL and 4-koma have a respectable history and status in Japan. Interesting character interactions and well-timed funny jokes are what people in Japan seek and get from SoL and 4-koma (most of it are on SoL background). What the Kirara line of magazines do is to expand the field of SoL and 4-koma to link with the moe style and the internet generation's sense of humor. jmal said: It is not limited to Kirara line of magazines. Outside of the extremely well-known magazines like Shounen Jump, Shounen Magazin and Shounen Sunday, there are tons of manga magazines, ranging from mahjong (the number of Mahjong manga magazines is even more than the 4koma specialist magazines) to adult/porn to gekiga gritty true crime stuff etc, going around in Japan every week and every month. Many of the manga serialized never make it to tankoubon format - they are just deemed not popular enough to be bothered. And this is the same for those Kirara magazines - lots of manga get serialized but only a minority are popular enough to be republished in tankoubon format, and they are the titles that are best known and play the role of helping to pull in readers to try out the lesser known titles, just like in every manga magazine. But do they actually serialize enough titles in each magazine to justify having to many? That's a lot of 4koma... |

Holy shit, I'm so pissed. It's so sad, DEEN has great yuri/shoujo ai series like Simoun and Marimite yet they always manage to ruin everything with QUALITY. Also funny how there are people out there that imply there are "lots" of yuri shows when most of times it's mostly fanservice/the "yuri" shows that exist are simply bad. |

Yuri is also not just restricted to sexual relations such as the outdated definition MAL has on here. Readers of Sakura Trick, have said that it will be a "full-blown" yuri... but it may be different from what you are thinking "full-blown" means. If you read the synopsis for the manga, these girls are in high school (so at least 15 years old). You do know that not every girl has big breasts? There's a reason why there are A or B cups instead of just D, E, F or whatever. Besides, in the key visual I can clearly see breasts on the pink/red haired girl. |

I haven't read the manga, but earlier in this thread readers have said that there were some kiss scenes and stuff which are usually not seen in other yuri anime adaptations. There's probably not much more than that since it's being aired on TV... but I could be wrong. |

Looking forward to this! Have both manga volumes. Can't wait to see what Studio Deen and the character designer/chief animation director from Sankarea and Rozen Maiden do here! As for the character designs, I would say these are in fact more representative of real sizing than High School DxD... and in the mizugi parts you will see they are not all pettanko. |
