I don't mind it if it fits the story and the mood. I find excessive gore just for the sake of gore pretty ridiculous, though. It makes the anime look immature in my eyes, completely opposite what it's probably trying to achieve.

If it goes above the level of realism or the story seems designed to get as much of it as possible, then that would be enough to trigger an instant drop of the series. Or, more likely, I wouldn't pick it up in the first place.
If it is just being realistic then I wouldn't particularly like it, but I would most likely be willing to accept it. Although again if it is graphic or prominent it would probably turn me off the series.
There is no such thing as shit taste. Only idiots who think everyone should have the same taste as they do.

Looks like I need to check out the manga soon. XD

By the way. Have you watched any other violent anime adaptions from Go Nagai? (I thinks he's a genius XD)
I only read Devilman and Getter Robo manga and watched the rest of his gory anime adaptations:

-Devilman TV and OVA
-Violence Jack
-Shutendoji
-Abashiri Family (Crazy OVA about an insane gangsta family)
-Getter Robo Armageddon (Probably the most bloody Getter Robo series)
-Black Lion (Not as insane as Violent Jack but still crazy)

Also, I wonder is there any other mangaka similar to Go Nagai?

You should read the Cutey Honey manga. Hilarious piece of gross out humor though not very long has plenty of gore and cameos from Abashiri Family.

I remember that one scene in Bakemonogatari

That hurt me to watch. And it was just downright disheartening that half the comments for that episode were "LOL" or the like.

It was an interesting scene artistically, I'll give it that. But not funny in the slightest.

Well, it´s not like he could actually die from that. And Bakemonogatari is not really the best example of gory.
You all need to watch Nami.

Excessive gore makes no sense to me personally. If it's necessary for the story ok, but overkill is no good.

I really don't mind gore. Though, there's a little thing called ''Rin: Daughters of Mnemosyne'' which has truckloads of gore.

The main character is a detective and is also immortal. The type where she can get her head cut off, arms ripped off and thrown into a gigantic shredder and she will just regenerate herself. This means that if she is being tortured: she can't die.

It actually has a pretty good story and setting beyond the torture porn.

*It's not actually hentai, but it's a few steps away*

I like it, as long as it's not just that out of the show.
Only gore just because of it, like it was in Corpse Party, or Blood-C, it's pure crap.

I hate it, which really confuses the anime-watchers I know IRL. See, I say I hate it and yet I love shows like Akame ga Kill! and Attack on Titan but its because the gore in those shows is what I can only describe as appropriate gore. I mean if a guy gets his arm hacked off, you should expect blood and screaming, but the gore is simply a means to end the fight. The gore is rarely ever the desired purpose. But then theres shows like Elfen Lied, Tokyo Ghoul, and Hellsing where characters are disembowled or mutilated, all to satsify the raw sadistic hunger the characters always have.

It just depends, on how it's executed. If it fits, then I'm ok with it but too much forced gore in the name of "maturity" isn't my thing.

I'm actually a big fan of Tarantino movies, but I find his gore is more stylistic and is far from realism.

Gore in AgK is appropriate, but it's not in Tokyo Ghoul? Mmmmmkay.

Depends on the show and what's said show trying to achieve. Also on how extreme 'extreme gore" is. Are limbs being cut off right and left or are intestines covering the screen?

I think gore is ok if used right and for developing characters or story (for example, in Tokyo Ghoul, in Claymore etc.).
However, I really hate unnecessary blood&gore fanservice, that is used only to make bigger shock to viewers (for example in AgK, even SnK). It is usually disgusting, and I consider it as "perversion". I prefer sexualisation fanservice over this, at least it is used mostly for comprehensible purposes (to interest Japanese people to family life, since in Japan there are huge demographic problems).

I think, that to consider Blood&Gore as "maturity" is not the best idea.

I don't mind gore as long as it is used to depict situations in more...gritty,realsitic flair.
But I dislike overabundant gore,if there is no other point to presenting the gore than the gore itself,in other words, pointless gore just for sake of gore.

Gratuitous gore can be annoying, yeah, but censoring where there should be blood or screaming is much worse.

Gore in AgK is appropriate, but it's not in Tokyo Ghoul? Mmmmmkay.

I dont know, theres just a clear and obvious line that makes it exceedingly difficult to explain. The best way I can put it is gore is fine with --and even desired by-- me when its not the desired end result. Lets say a person gets shot in the head with a normal small-round pistol, ok? I prefer to see the blood splatter out the back and maybe even be shown the exit hole. But what I dont wanna see is the head EXPLODE with brain-matter flying everywhere and sticking to the walls. One gives a sense of maturity and caters to the audience, me, with something believable. The other merely gives torture-porn freaks their fix.

edit: And I wouldnt say I have a problem with cannibalism --or in regards to Tokyo Ghoul, humanoids eating humans--, but it bothers me when I can feel the author thought "how can I make the most vivid suffering or best torture scene?". THATS what bothers me and puts me off the shows.

I don't really like gore as much. If there's a little bit, then it's fine, but if there's a lot like there is in Corpse Party then I probably wouldn't watch it.
