Watched Jacques Tati's Mon Oncle again after buying it on Blu-Ray. Still a great movie, but I prefer his other movies above it. The (UK) Blu Ray contains an alternate cut of the movie shot in English simultaneously with the French production, which should be interesting to watch.

I also watched Lincoln today. It was a pretty good movie, well made but I feel it does not have that certain something that makes it an all-time classic. Still well made, though.

Eating Raoul.

Haven't seen it in a few years, but when I saw Criterion put it out, I made a point to buy it. Still as darkly hilarious and wickedly satirical as I remember. The deadpan line delivery and Looney Tunes-esque physical humor will keep this a favorite of mine for years to come.

Only saw the Hangover II today, yea... I know :p

It was pretty funny even if it wasn't inovative and we kind of knew what to expect... maybe that's just what gave that little extra taste.

Alps.

Less than impressive follow-up to Dogtooth. I suppose there's some nasty subtext if you care to analyze it, but the absurdist claptrap it's wrapped up in never connected with me on any interesting level.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower:

It had Emma Watson, Logan Lerman and best of all, Ezra Miller in it!
How could it not be great?
I love indie films *sighs*

The Party. Laughed so hard at the dinner scene. The wig she had on, oh goodness. Including the beginning with the explosion and his watch.

I mean come on, Peter Sellers is hilarious.

The movie was fabulous and the ending was kinda shocking and too cut short. I also love the soundtrack.

Silver Linings Playbook

Damn Jennifer Lawrence is hot. That was a fun watch, but I think it could have been better. I really liked the first part of the movie, but it became too formulaic in the second part. I guess they wanted so much to have a happy ending that they completely forgot about the other issues, because suddenly the mental illness is not a problem anymore, the guy's obession for his wife just disappeared, and for some reason we are supposed to believe that everything will be all right in the relationship of those 2 unstable character. Nevertheless, the movie had its moment.

Overall a decent romantic comedy.

The first half of SLP was great because Bradley Cooper really nailed what being mentally ill is like and what it feels like.

The second half was shit with time skips and a completely forced romance progression.

I can't for the life of my understand why Silver Linings is nominated for best picture.

Rewatched Tropic Thunder the other day.

Still hilarious and completely non-sensical.

Tom Cruise was easily the highlight of the show. Didn't know it was possible for him to have such a role.

The Avengers... or as they call it here in the UK because they think we're beyond stupid "Avengers Assemble". I know what it was trying to be and I think they succeeded at it, but I just found the long action scenes a bit too much for my brain to handle. 143 minutes was needed for this? Really?

Tony Stark was the best. I did like Loki, but I think I liked him more in Thor.

6/10

Plus, I checked the IMDB score and I'm sure there are better films out there that deserve to be in the top 250.

Grown Ups I rented it from the video store and well it wasn't as funny as the previews made it to be. I chuckled a couple times, but that was it.

True Grit remake was good though I really liked the main girl.

Saw Skyfall in the dollar theater. Worst movie experience ever, the seating was completely backwards (seats were sloped upwards so this guy's head was planted right in the middle of the screen the whole movie) and my neck hurt by the end of the movie. And the exit sign messed with the coloring on the screen. And the lights would randomly turn on and off throughout the film. I guess that's what you get for a $2 ticket.

As for the movie itself, I was entertained. The villain was a bit of a lunatic, but nothing too memorable. Action was satisfactory, and I teared up a bit when the lady died. I think a lot of the references to older movies went over my head though.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

One of the finest comedy + crime movies I've seen yet. Now I do see Robert going off tangent way too often in an attempt of being chill and/or funny but there were many moments that was LOL material. Just the sheer ridiculous situations of actually stumbling into murder. Some of the dialogue was just non-sensical though or way too quick to get the humour across.

8/10.

After Hours.

Supposedly underrated Scorsese film from 1985. Beautifully shot by Ballhaus and convincingly acted, the flick is let down by the fact that the protagonist is an extremely irritating idiot. The plot teeters between farcical and psychotic, and the denouement comes as off as an out-of-place joke. Could have been a lot better if they'd made up their mind where they wanted to go with it.

Cat on a hot tin roof (1958)

I've read that it was a lackluster adaptation of the original play, but it totally made it for me. The dialogue is very overdone and theatrical, but the acting is so damn good it just makes the film and their situations incredibly believable and intense. On the other hand, the ending...

One way or the other, a surprising favorite.

so excited

finally got around to watching BECK live-action movie! SOOO good. And i don't use caps lightly

Beck is prob one of my fave animes and I thought the movie was so true to the characters, narrative, tone, and frankly, sentimentality

Saito got axed pretty bad, but that was definite material that could be left behind

the actors were awesome. they seemed true to the anime and in a freakish turn of events, many of them really looked like their anime counterparts.

12 Angry Men (1957)

Awesome movie. I'm not a big fan of today's cinema - last movie I saw in theatres was in 2006 (james bond), and that already sucked badly. Gonna look out for a few more classics, this one really intrigued me. The dialogue and characters are truly good and authentic. Anime adaption with moe girls, done by SHAFT, instead would be amazing.

May I recommend a tiny film called "Manic"? It deals with similar issues on a much, much more serious level. It's very obviously a low budget film but the acting is top notch. I thought of it when I watched Silver Linings because the beginning remind me of it a little...but then the typical romance started and I wasn't surprised.

Children of Dune.

Lousy CGI, lots of mispronunciations, characters all the wrong age, I'm surprised I enjoyed it as much as I did. I suppose what's missing was dramatic tension, but they got the characters right, that's the main thing.
