| @symbv Ah ok, i know what you're trying to say. and yeah, i know moe and pantsu do not necessarily sell, it's just that among other genres they seem to be selling the most, i still believe badass shounen action protagonists do play a part in sales, it attracts viewers and people can relate and look up to the guy, unlike, for example the protagonist in mirai nikki, who you just pity and question why does he even exist. Many find the series surprisingly good in terms of getting the right balance of humor, hard work and touching moments. The character design and sakuga/animation of characters are widely praised. This volume has a live event ticket bundled, so its true popularity may only be reflected in the sales of later volumes. Sales projection for vol.1 is now at 7.3k, which has not changed much over the weeks (while most other titles have gone down). Amnesia This actually made a rocket jump from a position lower than #3,000 up to above #100 in just one day a few days back. It can be entirely attributed to the announcement of an event ticket to be bundled with vol.1 Currently the DVD is projected to sell at 2.2k Vivired This title has very very good anime production quality - animation wise, character design wise and music wise. It was deemed to be the top candidate to be #1 bestseller for the season. In fact when it first came up in Amazon for preorder, it ranked very high. However fans find the screenplay to be uninspiring and the pacing too rushed, and its ranking started to creep downwards. It was not helped by ep.3 where the heroine in focus (Green) was not popular among fans. However the heroine in the latest ep.4 was much better received by fans and the episode also got better feedback, its ranking has come back up quite a bit, though at #109 it is nothing to write home about. The projection is now set at 6.7k, much lower than the earlier projection of >12k. Alarm bells are sent ringing among anime fans that if even Vivired and LoveLive manage <10k the Winter Season may be a "barren season" in which no title will sell above the "big hit mark" of >10k. Haganai, Minamike Both have quite stable ranking performance over the weeks. No big jump after each episode but on the other hand the trend seems to be ever slightly and gradually slipping down. Once Hagani and Minamike were projected to sell at >5.5k and >4.5k but now the projection is 4k and 3.3k respectively. Kotoura-san It has climbed up A LOT over the first 3 weeks after its airing as a lot of fans were pleasantly surprised by this anime that mixes with heavy-hearted drama with sharp humor. This is benefiting the sales of the original manga which was quite obscure. One dark horse for this season, truly. However it may have reached its peak by ep.4 and its ranking has now weakened quite a bit to around #300. Projection is now 2.3k MaoYuu Former dark horse of this season. It started at a position that rivals LoveLive and later Vivired until around ep.3. This seems to be a result more because fans of the original LN flocked to preorder the BD. However, the latest episodes (ep.3,4) did not receive much favorable feedback. Fans of LN griped that too much is being cut from the LN and the focus is misplaced in the anime. Over the past 2 weeks its ranking has dropped quite substantially (now lower than #350) and projection is 3.9k - once the projection was 9k or more. Tamako Market KyoAni is at risk of having a substantial flop at hand. Many think that KyoAni has a large number of very dedicated fans and so KyoAni works will always sell. Those people should take a look at the sales of this title. Tipped to be a strong candidate to be the top seller for this season, it has gone down and down as the season progresses. Even for KyoAni, moe does not always means huge sales. And contrary to many detractors may think, it is not because KyoAni's brand of moe finally turns off fans: On the contrary, it may be because of KyoAni's trying to make a ordinary slice-of-life comedy without exaggerated moe in high frequency that may cause its sinking fortune. The story can make a live action comedy for golden hour TV perfectly fine, but for midnight anime watchers it looks too plain. On top of that, fans seem to find the anime lacking direction and focus, and the bird character is far from popular. The recent ep.4 with the focus on the most popular character Ann (Anko) could only help the ranking a bit but not for long. Ranking now at around #400 - its sales projection is merely 3.9k. Once the projection was >11k. GJ-bu An anime that looked quite at risk of being neglected and hovered at really low ranking for quite a while. Over time it managed to pick up fans and the latest ep.4 got a lot of attention from fans for showcasing how cute the club president is. It is now ranked even higher than Minamike or Tamako Market. Sales projection is still weak though at 1.7k OreShura Another anime that is like GJ-bu, although it has a stronger fan base for its original LN. And same as GJ-bu it has picked up fans along the way. Amazingly it now ranks only below LoveLive, Vivired and the recently shot-up Amnesia. Sales projection is at a modest 2.2k though. |

| So happy Jojo sold this well as other people have said : ) With limited budget they had David Production was forced to be more creative with the presentation of the show with it's excellent color, being true to the spirit of JoJo but not being afraid to tinker with the story to make it flow better. Also props to the seiyuu who give some of the most memorable performances in recent memory hamming it up X D(Dio Brando, Jonathan, Joseph, Speedwagon and Stroheim You can just tell the team working on the show LOVES the source material. Can't wait to see the future arcs adapted which is almost a guarantee unless David Production hates money |

It's too early to say that DC III couldn't do the same. In any case the DC anime is almost definitely a loss leader for merchandise (since DC II at least) so it may not matter. Maybe but still. I just hope that there would be SS like in previous parts of franchise cause they definitely won't include the best part of the VN in this season. |

It's not just the fact their products do really well lately or get critical acclaim in spite of it like Binbogami and High School Boys, it's the fact that they have multiple shows across multiple genres that are almost all doing quite well by market standards and consistently for a few years now. They're really coming on strong of late, but it's the fact that they are making inlays into the idol/moe crowd where they were never really that huge a force before and making it almost look easy that astonishes me. They've always kind of been known as the sci-fi and mecha studio, but that seems to be about to change. What a turnaround from a few years ago where they seemed to be known as the "trainwreck" studio that couldn't do a single thing right in the online community. I've always been a strong supporter of the brand since their shows become the first thing to make it onto Canadian TV largely uncut and I strongly support their mission statement of creativity, self-challenge and promoting original content so to see people actually hoping they get certain adaptations and wishing them success is a nice thing to see indeed. Hope they keep doing well but not too well as I don't think one studio overwhelming the competition is necessarily good for creativity and I don't want them to ever grow complacent. The consistency thing is cool but kind of scary at the same time. Anyway this has been one of the best weeks for the kinds of shows I'm most into for a long time. I think it's easy to see why Spring looks so loaded up with hot-blooded looking action series and mecha shows the way the current decade has been shaping up. I genuinely hope the trend of everyone feeling satisfied and content that they'll always have something new to watch and enjoy on their own personal level continues. @symbv: This is some really interesting stuff, nicely referenced and argued with numbers, trends and the things fans are saying in Japan both positive and negative as opposed to what looks like pure guess work. I especially like the lack of assumptions being made, not the sort of thing I see on MAL all to often sadly. |
