JoJo did far better than I expected it would. Girls und Panzer adds some more which is good to see... and Little Busters seems to be pretty consistent, putting up another 10k.

And I would say they do things right by buying Girls und Panzer BD too. Ha ha.

We are seeing nine (I count Hidamari as well) breaking 10k mark for vol.1 sales which means the Fall Season has a rich harvest. By comparison the current season looks really weak in terms of sales projection.
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

Amazing for GaruPan's 7th week. I suspect most of those sales were from HMV, considering it has ranked 1st amongst Anime BD/DVDs everyday between January 29 (this is when HMV finally restocked) to February 5... save January 30 where Jojo BD v1 placed 1st.

It seems to be weakening on HMV though. Now ranked 48th amongst all products on HMV, when it was hanging around 15~20 yesterday.

Of course it will be interesting how GaruPan holds up on Amazon JP when it is eventually restocked this month...

For Magi, the concern is more on what will happen from vol.3 onwards when it no longer has any event ticket bundled. According to Amazon Stalker projection, the sales can drop as much as to just ONE FOURTH of the current level. This can spell big trouble for the overall average. Of course they can bundle event ticket for vol.3 to bump up sales, but then for how many volumes can you keep bundling event ticket?

Am I the only one that is sad that SSY is doing so poorly? Like, poorly is hardly harsh enough to describe how bad it's doing :/ And I really like the show... sigh.

Nice to see that Little Busters is selling decently though, I only really care about animated Refrain anyway so would've been bad if it flopped sales wise.

Whoa.
JOOOOOOJOOOOOOOO! WRRRRRRRRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!
Amazing, JoJo really outperformed Stalker predictions, they were at mere 14k.
I'm not sure if it's specific case of some titles (JoJo, Chuuni, GuP) or maybe HMV got much more popular in last few months? I think it had lower impact on sales earlier.

Horizon Hell Yeah
Strongest 1st week achieved with 5th volume of second season immediately after weakest 1st week with 4th vol? Now that is something surprising. 21k average still seems realistic.

Stupid Magi got ahead of Darkness... gotta watch it and join the fans, eh? At least TLR clearly shows it's better than LB!

GuP 26.5k yay~

You can see that no.1, 11 and 18 are all missing. It is likely to be some western animation that is included in the Oricon chart but anime fans in Japan do not care.

It is in fact better than most fans in Japan expected, particularly after the trashing of this anime online by some people who are not happy with some changes made in the anime from the LN (which has more to do with nationalist feelings than anything else). At least it is doing better than Kokoro Connect, another anime that suffered storms of online bashing.

And JoJo 2nd OP is extremely well received.

I think the numbers this week aren't the anime-only list rankings but rather from the all-genre chart. 2ch seems to have done the same thing..
That makes sense. Oricon will publish the "all-genre BD charat" on its website tomorrow. We can check that to confirm the sales and the title of the no.1 BD then.

jmal said:
If you check the daily ranks for anime on the Oricon website throughout the week, the only thing that could have outsold Akito was a B'z concert CD.
But if it is the daily ranks for anime, surely it will not show the B'z concert CD, right?

Ouch, Sakurasou... I guess we won't have a 2nd season.

And seems like Little Busters! sales are dropping. Chances for a 2nd season are also disappearing (given what that producer said on the radio).

The only BD chart Oricon publishes on their website is the all-genre ranking. For subscribers, the all-genre Top 20 goes out the same time as the animation-only Top 10. Usually the charts get combined by 2ch/dtshyk each Tuesday if more than 10 anime are in the all-genre Top 20 but this time the animation-only 1-10 ranking numbers just weren't included.
I thought you were talking about an Oricon daily ranking that has anime BD titles only on its website when you said "If you check the daily ranks for anime on the Oricon website". So you mean looking at the BD daily ranking and check for the anime titles. Now I get it.

Most people just think that he is just being grumpy and the decision for a 2nd season has long been made. And the reason of him being grumpy is because he had expected the sales to be much better than the 11k or so so far.
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

i don't know, is sakurasou selling well?

No it's not, but it's borderline enough that it's really tempting me to import it now. I'm not sure if the anime is helping novel sales though, which is the real deal-maker or -breaker when a title is selling ~3k like this.

I'm constantly surprised at how good the show is, and how well the emotional struggles of the characters are portrayed, and I'd like to at least see it not flop. Just need to decide if ¥8190*8 was in my budget. I only imported four Fall '12 series, so in theory it shouldn't be a problem to add one more. I just want to make sure it doesn't drop the ball in the end.

The light novels are wonderful, so much more happens than they have time to animate. I have all the LNs and really hope they can do up to the end of the last volume out so far, eight. I bought the BD and the first batch of CDs as well. The new OP isn't a favorite though the new ED is growing on me.

Bought LB2 as well this week. Great package, the booklet is wonderful with illustrations, Rita interview (OP and ED), pictures from the tamago story. Great episodes too.

And I got Zoetrope, Black+White and Kotoura - san OP CDs and gdgd faeries, the Love Live Best Live CD/BD collection, forgot to get their single this week, duh... Will have to order it with the next one. The BD of Love Live Music videos is great! They are in idol, swimsuit, maid, flight attendant outfits, cute beyond belief!

The key thing for this Best Collection CD is that the PV is the updated version of their previous PV released on their earlier singles, using the current character designs, which made them look even livelier and appealing. Many LoveLive fans who already owned the singles bought the DVD+BD package just for those updated PVs.

JoJo did far better than I expected it would. Girls und Panzer adds some more which is good to see... and Little Busters seems to be pretty consistent, putting up another 10k.
I expected to sell this well actually. The manga is extremely good so it's an instant hit.

Also im so glad to see Accel World up there. I was under the impression people hated it lol.

By reading customer's reviews posted on Amazon Japan and anime forums in Japan. I plan to buy the pack at some point too.

Sakurasou did slightly better than stalker said, Magi and Jojo did far better, the latter going so far as to comfortably steal second from Chuunibyou in a single week.

No surprise in Medaka Box not ranking.

Just Seitokai no Ichizon 2 and Teekyuu left from 2012 stuff now.
Weekly light novel releases (from 20/10/2014)
Monthly light novel sales ranks (from Jan 2015)
Bestselling light novel volumes of the year/all time* (and more in the same club).

Thank you Japan for buying JoJo BD's. It seems they can do some things right once in a while.

manly awesome protagonist, badass action shounen, compared to the tons of crap we get each season, i would have lost faith in humanity if JoJo didn't sell.

Damn Straight. JoJo is the anime the industry needs.

Its sales are pretty solid, though not spectacular, considering how much the novels sell. I think it also has the misfortune of being compared, in terms of sales, to SAO, which is selling like 5 times as much.
I was surprised at how much the novels sold as well. It came in 3rd selling a million copies last year if im not mistaken. Im really happy for sunrise.

Jojo makes me proud. Generally the top selling series of fall are for once exclusively series than I fully support, so yay for that. It's also always great to see anything related to Tiger & Bunny still sell so well.

Actually JoJo is not guaranteed to sell this well at the beginning. Granted JoJo has a big fan base but it is also considered to be a work that is from the very old days. When the character designs first came out I still remembered the clear lack of enthusiasm among anime fans in Japan about its prospect. The guess is it would sell reasonably well, but perhaps 10k or so is its limit. So this result is actually something that is much better than expected.

And why? From what I read, the anime production should get a lot of credit for skilfully and carefully updating the presentation, art style, music and directing to a contemporary form that sticks close to the spirit and appeal of the original manga despite its limited budget (as can be told from the economical way of animation). And then much credit must also go to all the seiyuu who did a marvelous performance of each hero and villain and side narrator (hi, speedwagon; hi, Stroheim). Everything stays consistent and never falters even as it enters the second cour. It is because of all these people that JoJo manages to snatch the no.2 position of the bestseller ranking for the Fall Season, only below the biggest surprise of 2012 - Girls und Panzer.
