The problem is that they rushed the Aincrad arc and now stretch out the Fairy Dance arc. No idea why they didn't give Aincrad one or two more episodes. I would have probably liked it best if they gave Aincrad 25 episodes and slowed down the pacing to give it more exposition and world building.
That's just my opinion, though, I still enjoy watching it.

This is another example of a difference between Japan and the west. Calling someone by their first name is a huge step in Japan. He doesn't just want to be with Suguha, he wants to control her. His jealousy over Lyfa campaigning with Kirito is a good example, an even better example would his leap that their "spending the night" meant something sexual (which both shows where his mind is, and his lack of understanding Suguha). Also his all too public declarations about his loyalty to her and want to protect her (when she is several times stronger than him), is also insulting and again shows that he has no understanding of her character and emotions.

While I agree Shinichi is a bit immature and annoying, I do not think he wants to control her. I just think he is being very clumsy about expressing his love, and the attempt to declare "Suguha is my...." (I am not sure he wanted to say "boyfriend" so I left it blank here) is a sign of his clumsiness and awkwardness, not his desire to control, at least that is how I interpreted it.

I won't blame Shinichi because for a teenage boy in love he is very susceptible to such over-sensitivity and wild thought, which I think is perfectly understandable, and it is not helped Suguha's obvious attraction to Kirito (everybody can see it).
