The Way to Freedom

I'm at a loss of words. This series just keeps getting more and more interesting. Not only did it surpass the quality of the first two episodes; it managed to take the series to a whole new level. I'm done comparing this series to others, and I'm sure many of you guys will too after seeing this episode. There is clearly nothing like it. Episode 1 was the setup. Brilliantly written and absorbed you into it's setting with it's beautiful locales. Episode 2 introduced the powers that be, dumping boat loads of story and details. And let's not forget the awesome fight between Akiyuki and the first Humanform he encounters. Instead of focusing heavily on a couple of themes like the first two episodes, Episode 3 expounds on every little aspect and then some. Characterization, emotional dialogue, relationships, world setting, organizations, intricate plots, and beautiful designs: it's all there. It may seem like a lot on paper, but the episode does a great job of holding your hand and guiding you through it.

Anybody still on the fence about this series should have no worries. It is indeed one of the best animes of recent memory. A must watch for any aficionado: a treat that everyone should be able to enjoy.

Loved the new Humanform design. Unique and draws you in a manner of forbidden beauty. Nakiami really starts coming into her own, as well as Ishu. Akiyuki's parents continue to shine, and I like the direction they are taking with Haru. Seems like she has a lot of depth to her. Can't wait 'til they cover more of her parent's and sister's relationships. All in all, I would be incredibly surprised if there is one person who can not find one thing to like about this episode. Classic.

Much improved over the first couple episodes. The action wasn't overly long, there was actually some focus on characters, and Akiyuki got punched in the face. He certainly deserved to be as well. While I can understand his frustration about being flung into this whole mess without any idea what happened he didn't even try to understand anything about the situation and instead was content to bitch until he got set straight. Thankfully now he has set out on his path to become exactly like every other mecha and mecha-esque anime main character which will make him less annoying but ultimately easily forgotten.

As for matters unrelated to Akiyuki the Captain is pretty cool I guess. Nakiami and her are about the only two characters I like in the least. Once again the animation production was good so hopefully that keeps up. I'm basically left with the wait and see approach on this series again since it shows promise, but I'm not sure if it's promising what I want it to.

Damn, I cannnot get enough of this series. I was hoping for another 50 episode series from BONES, but it's only 26. Oh well. Nice character development before we move forward.

I love the Captain. And, Akushiba (Kamina!).

yep yep.
Plus, this series is very similar to Eureka 7. I find this more enjoyable though.

I disagree and I think the captain is a pretentious self-righteous bitch. In fact most of the crew is. Akiyuki hardly did any wrong, but he's getting punished because he's not doing everything perfectly.

That's what I didn't like about Eureka Seven, either. People on high horses feeling like they need to throw their authority around (Holland, Talho) when in fact it's just childish and immature in itself. Renton did get out of control at times but I don't think he needed to be scolded every episode. It's the same with Akiyuki as well.

I certainly hope the series doesn't get dragged out by this constant little war between the newcomer and the rest of the crew just like with E7.

Just to be clear: its just my opinion and its just a show. No one will change my opinion. I know getting the last word in is important, but I don't care to argue here.

Hey, no problems here man. Especially since I don't like this show nearly enough to argue about trivial matters involving it.

Anyone else think that Nakiami's flying machine looks a lot like Spike Spiegel's (Cowboy Bebop) Swordfish ship?

Both her character design and ship looks a lot like Nausicaä.

I was reminded of Nausicaä in the first episode, but now getting a closer look in Ep 2 & 3 I definitely think there's more Swordfish in her ship design.

Although, I think you're bang on about the Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind similarities.

Well either way! I think Nakiami is the BEST female character in the show! =P Man!! I sure hope this will end up AkiyukiXNakiami. Not Haru! XD

You know what I think? I think Haru is the girl (the one who licks the letter) in the beginning of OP. But with short hair, I'm assuming its the part when she decided to cut her hair and join the army to look for Akiyuki.. =P I don't know, that's just pure imagination, but you can't deny that possibility after seeing her kicking the soldier's ass. lol

Another good episode. I really do like Akiyuki, as well as Akushiba. Nakiami is okay so far, but right now I'm leaning towards Haru. And I love both Akiyuki's mother and father. The latter certainly has a past that seems to be a plot point... can't wait to find out more about it. :D

agree with aero.

i could completely understand how akiyumi felt. being dragged against your will, some people you barely know telling you that you have to work, and telling you that you cannot see your family and friends again. IMO, i would have ragequit'd and snap xD

the animation was also pretty awesome, and character development for akiyuki's mom and dad, while small, was pretty good. i also think that this needs more haru.

giant xam'd = interesting.

But I'm still looking for a series surpasing BONES' biggest achievement ( IMO Eureka Seven ).
Anyway, very good start. Can't wait to see that kickass Xam'd form again like in episode 2 (that was awesome *o*)

EDIT: btw, love the OP, though I'm fairly disappointed with the full version; I swear I counted 44 "Run away"s -.- And I'm not even starting with the Let it down OTL

It's just not drawing me in (typical of Bones studio).

While I'd like to know more regarding the Humanforms and such... I don't want to have to suffer through Bones's mediocre, boring directing. It's like a bad Eureka clone, which was only a decent Eva clone.
