well definitely was rushed in a big scale, but still a good episode and a sad one. They probably are doing the same thing just like when you make summary project's of a chosen story in your highschool years for your english class but on this episode 3 it was way too much stuff not animated and rushed big time

Just hoping they won't cram the whole of S.A.O on 13 episodes, well even 24-26 episodes won't cut it it needs something like 50-100+ to be really good ;) xD (ye i know its just so that i get 100 saturday nights x 23 minutes of heaven when i watch the show)

Very rushed ep. 2/5. No original content; least they could do was to animate Nicholas' fight, no?

I'm kinda pissed right now. So freaking rushed. Can't stand it.
Though I have to admit, the tears came to me at at that ending, but that was probably only because it was my favorite scene from the light novel. Regardless, I feel disappointed about this ep as a fan of the light novels.

......Do the lot of you not understand the need to fit so much into a 20 minute time slot? -.-.....This is only a 20+ episode anime, and they have a lot of ground to cover. /facepalm.

Make it 2 eps then.
God, the (lack of) reasoning of some ppl is beyond negative 9000 -.-
Like I said in the previous post -- no original content; no improvements to the rushed factor in the LN. The whole LN is pretty rushed IMO, even if compared to the author's own works like Accel World.

Rushed, cut out what could have been a cool fight, wasn't to sad because we barely knew any of the characters, wtf suicide how would that make your friends happy, also they skipped through a lot of floor levels without showing us anything. Even with all these negatives it was still worth watching though hopefully they don't rush it to much more.

It was rushed, not in a bad way like stated by few people it had the main bits it needed in this but I guess this is going to be probably another 12 episode anime, I kinda wish it would go on longer but the pace it has went through the levels skipping dozens at a time I'm guessing it'll only be a 12 episode one which is a shame cause I am enjoying this Anime alot.

The Episode was quite sad tbh as well, but the Black Cats were stupid to not think ahead of what they were doing, you would normally in a game & thus it caused their demise & I felt said when Sachi died ;3; Also it was a bit sad when the other member who went searching for the house came back & found out they were dead so he jumped of the edge to kill himself ;3;

It was rushed, there is no doubt about it but it was good anyway. I like kirito's self-reckoning and i also like that annoying girl's died.

But i think this episode was preparation for other episodes. Because Kirito understood that; No lies no loses! And i think in the future kirito must be guild leader becasue when he manage a hunt, people hunt easily but when kirito prefer stay-back, everythings gone crazy!

sorry for bad english....

Better than the previous episode, but still not first episode quality.
They should have split this arc into two episodes, one for the happy guild memories, one for the Christmas after.

On a side note, it looks as if each side story will be crammed into one episode, probably to fit in Volume 3 and 4. Hopefully, the main story will have good pacing.

Rushed but that was to be expected, the episode's could be a tearjerker if this was 2 episode's long. But the rush we didn't really got to know the guild and his members and so the dead of the guild didn't made me cry.

You'd be surprised that in the original novel the game is already at the 78th level at chapter 1. Episode 2 and 3 are side stories to show the development of Kirito.
-SAO Is more about Kirito's interaction with other characters and not about the "Gameplay" itself. I honestly don't want every floor to be explained in detail. I always hate those "monster of the week" type stories
-And the ones who cleared till that level is not by Kirito himself. there are plenty of guilds that aims to clear the game.

I don't want every level to be shown or explained. Never asked for that. As a matter of fact that would be going into Bleach territory where every episode there's a new boss to defeat. Silly and stupid.
What I do want and hope for is more development. Kirito speaking with guild for 30 seconds is not that. It's just, well, teaser emotions so to say for me. Sure, Sachi was cute and likeable and all, but she had a total of 30s-1m in this whole episode. I can't feel any real sadness for her, nor can I feel Kiritos emotions (which I'm supposed to, since he's protagonist and all) and his sadness since, well, I didn't care for any of the characters. Hell, I don't even care all that much about Kirito, since, again, I know almost nothing about him.

Yes, I called story non existent, that may have been overreaction since the story is moving on, it's just that protagonist is not really the one moving it forward. I don't mind that, read some VNs where protagonist was just a side character in a whole story and didn't really serve to move the plot, he was only there to have POV. Guess it's the same with Kirito. I don't mind that.

But this show is rated 42nd, I'd really expect way more from it than it currently offers.

Thanks. I'll probably start reading it today :)

The top anime list is based on the opinion and popularity within this given community. If i had my way, gintama wouldn't even be on my top 100, I don't get the humor, nor do i see a plot. Point is, the ranking is what it is, we all have our own view on each anime.

I think the fact that they chose to do a chronological order in the anime hurt the impact of this episode. This episode is meant to define what Kirito is as a person in SAO. It's the reason why he was solo, and he's only revealed this to certain person later on in the story, plus the explaination was brief and vague. That had a lot of people curious as to what actually happened with the guild. Thus the side story was created.

My main issue with the episode was the horrible pacing due to the time skips and the overall tone. At least seven months passed in the episode and nothing really happened beyond a small guilds death. The world was clearly changing around them and the amount of utilities available ruined the gritty vibe the first episode left. Based on what I saw in this episode everyone has access to warp gates meaning the rush out of of beginners town seems pointless. Why not just wait for the most powerful guild to unlock the next level and harvest its resources? Now all the players who took up skills like blacksmithing have access to nearly limitless amount of materials. This professional players not only have access to the starters zones but every level unlocked. Unless the next episode solves this problem of there being no reason not just let the big guilds continue doing all the real work, everyone even the worst fighter no longer lives in the non renewable resource environment mentioned in the first episode. Which at the time explained why the beta players all left the beginners town immediately after learning they were trapped in the game. Right now being passive and not fighting seems much more profitable.

lastly I loved the first episodes for keeping a solid storyline and eventually ending with the main character being isolated by the other players. It just seems wrong that after the second episode which ended on a superiority speech given by the main character, that the first episode opens with him joining a guild. If this is a really side plots the show is getting out of the way fine. The readers of the manga know whats going on but the average anime only fan is losing interest. Keep the story nice and chronological and I really hope Sachi was not supposed to be main driving force now for Kirito. Based on anime she was not significant and she did not have enough screen time to warrant me caring about the character.

Very touching episode and similar to Muv Luv TE's second although not as gruesome
I can relate a little to it with Diablo 2's Hardcore mode
When perishing it's all over
Sachi's Lulaby was good
Didn't know Kirito was OP compared to his former guild members

they could go on to the the next level but if they haven't gone out and levelled up properly they wont be able to take on the monsters that are of a much higher difficulty and wont be able to fully explore hunting zones without endangering themselves, they also wont have as much experience with fighting mobs like the clearers

also to smith and craft you would need to get materials, that means you would have to go out hunting to obtain these materials so you can sell them or you can buy the materials from other shops/player but it would cost a lot of money, also you need to rent out or purchase your own workspace in order to sell/build your items efficiently, also you will be in competition with other players selling their own items so it will be difficult to earn a decent living unless you work hard to level up your smithing skills by spending large amounts of time or money, being a merchant, smith or craftsman can earn you a decent living without having to risk your life as much the clearers but they are by no means richer than them

the clearers (people in the frontlines) are in the dungeons most of the time and have a bigger chance of obtaining valuable monster drops or treasures that are worth vast amounts of money, a smith could spend weeks to earn 100,000 col but if you are at the frontlines fighting high level monstors and they drop a rare item such as a rare sword, they could sell it and earn double that amount in half the time

the clearing guilds are probably the richest people in aincrad, the only ones who can compete are the solo player clearers like kirito who dont need to share monster drops or treasures, however they have the shortest lifespan as they are fighting monsters alone

i wont go into detail about the driving force for kirito for obvious reasons but i will tell you that the story is going in chronological order unlike the LN but for some reason it needed to rush the story in order to cover other parts of the LN

i think this is the only part that will be rushed, the rest of the story will be at a much better place judging from the titles of the episodes, although i am sad that they didn't go in to detail about the black cats and kirito's relationship

They got the main points in this episode very well to the point so I don't feel that Sachi's life and death was rushed at all. In fact, it adds to the effect of life being so frail in SAO. I'm enjoying this anime very much; it's reviving the MMO blood in me.

People really need to stop expecting all the storytelling from the LN to make it into the anime. They've hit the main points with the last two episodes, and considering how both these stories weren't even in the original LN just be happy we got them at all. The staff could have just animated what was in the first volume, and be done with it, but they've shown the good grace to give us content from volume 2 and the extras.

It would have been nice to see some of the character building scenes expanded on, but enough was kept in to flesh out the SAO sotryline, so joy to the world and all that. Sacchi got her screen time to compound Kirito's loathing. Same with the events of the first floor boss. Now the next ep 'The Black Swordsman' will be all the sweeter.

Very nice episode. That part in the end, while she was humming... I can understand Kirito completely, because I would've cried until I was dehydrated if I were him, and I personally almost got to tears here. Would've completely lost myself if I had known Sachi better before, though.
I'm just a bit (a lot, actually) annoyed at these overpowered time skips. I can understand that they may be running on a half season's episode limit, but I feel that SAO is so great I wouldn't mind even if they held back at these mad time skips, and had more seasons.
I don't know if the Light Novel is like this too, and if anyone here has read it, please tell me. If it isn't, looks like I'll be reading it soon.
I wouldn't mind even if this anime showed a lot of other random things, like they clearing other floors, hunting together, "day-to-day" things in the game. For an example, they didn't show what Kirito did to save the Kuronekos (they could and should have, despite I being able to understand it), nor showed him spending the time I presume he spent with them, because of what Sachi said in the end. And is it just me or Kirito was definitely 'romancing' Sachi? It looked like sleeping together became a habit for them.
Anyway, I sense a lot of potential in this anime, and I'm expecting much. I'd hate to get frustrated :(

the LN has a large timeskip, but it gives flashbacks and it has many side stories that fill in the blanks on what had happened, the anime is going in chronological order unlike the LN and has skipped out some content such as kirito's "first day" a story that happens as soon as he leaves behind klein and they also rushed aria in the starless and left out content that would of made it last 2-3 episodes, they also did the same with "red nose reindeer" and shortened it when i could of lasted a good two episodes

also kirito and sachi didn't have a romantic relationship, they were just good friends or "two black cats licking each others wounds" they were similar in the fact that they both didn't want to die and even though they were anti-social they feared loneliness

but trust me the story does get better and now that they have rushed enough, they can get the good story arcs up and running without needing to skip out any parts, although i am slightly upset that they chose to rush "aria in the starless sky" slightly and to skim "red nose reindeer"

Rushed as hell, but not in a completely bad way. I could care less about Sachi, but her guild in general was sad to see die. In a way it's realistic because in video games, no matter how high-level, you could easily die out of nowhere. Also wtf he already met up with Clain before? I wanted to see their reunion.
Still a good episode though.
I have a feeling that revival item is going to be used on Kirito at the end of the series. I'm probably wrong though since i've never read the LN.

The episode got all the key points across, and made enough Saachi/Guild screen time to generate empathy from viewers without dwelling or wasting time.

Read the LN, its a light read. Kirito isn't that close with Asuna and is a solo player. He doesn't party since he doesn't want party members to die, which is the point of ep 3.
