Wow, surprised I've never commented on this one...

Anyhow, re-read Girlfriends for the upteenth time and I love the manga.

That said, no matter how many times I read it Mari still flabbergasts and annoys me, and is easily my least favorite character. Harem protagonists get a lot of crap for being obtuse, but, in my opinion, even they don't compare to the dimwit that is Mari. Akko kisses Mari after she confesses her feelings? Oh, well, she's just being friendly. Akko flat out confess her love to Mari? She's just trying to be a really nice friend. *Groans*

And I seriously thought Sugi and Tamanin would end up together (>д<)

This! I was actually very surprised that this never happened! Besides how close they seem to be, I'd swear in one of the chapters Akko mentioned that Sugi and Tamami have made out "hundreds of times". Sorry, but ya just don't repeatedly do that unless you really like someone. *Laughs*

Anyhow, awesome manga and I'd love to see an anime of this! 9/10.

I´m glad that i read some critics here, i already thought i´m the only one who had to critisize

I rushed the manga yesterday night with sleep deprivation(couldn´t stop reading) and beer, which was an awful decision. So i´m 100% gonna reread it and take my time, and rethink things probably...

I really enjoyed the beginning and the end of the manga, although the middle part was awful for me.

I´m serious when i say that, cause there where ALOT of chapters that i really didn´t enjoy reading..

It made me really angry to see thoose two not communicating with each other...
There were alot of misunderstandings, while time passing bye...
It would only have taken a few hours sitting together and actually talk doesn´t it?
And the thing with maris Boyfriend... Instead of trying to understand her feelings and true nature, she never considered beeing lesbian because society tells us it´s WRONG. She swallows her feelings and also a big part of her personality, and is trying to be straight.
Glad it didn´t happen anything between thoose two.
Mari seemed to me as a girl with lots of IQ but little to no EQ. Sometimes not even realistic with her decisions and such...that applies mostly to the mid part i´d say.

Then there was one chapter where Tamami told Akko they should go swimming or something like that and that she should get a boyfriend too.
I was like: WTF no fucking way!!! Is she going to get a BF too, and then they are both retarded as fuck?!
It´s quite funny to think about my thoughts afterwards :-)

What i really liked was the point of view. First we had mari and her thoughts, while akko is the 2nd main, and then suddenly there´s a switch to akko´ perspective with mari beeing the 2nd main.

I really liked that. Also because there where some tough chapters as mentioned before, but then the manga switches to akko perspective. I felt relieved.... she was just more the type of girl that want to get things going, and expresses her feelings. I mean did she ever worry because she´s lesbian? I think never. All that matter was the love for her bf mari.
And with that the story got alot of it´s pep back that i was missing so much. She really is cute isn´t she?

Let my know if you have any recommendations for manga or anime, with similair quality like this. I would be glad, since i´m quite new to the genre.

This gets a 8/10 from me, when i´m finished rereading probably more :-)

Best Regards

although I found it very slow paced and I guess I wouldn't reread it because of that, this was the first shoujo ai/yuri I actually enjoyed. I was skeptical at the beginning but it paid off. I won't give up on yuri just yet.

I just loved this manga. The story is not especially bad and the characters are really well made with good and different persionnalities (which is a really good point). The Yuri aspects of the manga are not ALL the plot, so that it doesn't look like if all the story was ONLY based on that, because there is everytime a bit of backstory and stories of other characters.

I was searching for good Yuri content for a while, and this manga was a heaven. The story is well made so it's good in a even better way!

I can't figure out if I like the "Sakura Trick" anime more or less than this great Yuri manga. :3

All in all, this manga is just magnificient and I recommend it!

Short, sweet and heart-warming. This definitely deserves a sequel, I want to see how Mari and Akko's lives end up 5, 10 or 20 years down the line. My imagination is doing a decent job for now, though. :)

It did seem a little slow at times initially, but the second half was definitely on point. Their feelings and anxieties felt absolutely real - which is why the last lines of the manga really rang true: "It's not like we're special. I'm sure everyone, surely everyone has felt this way about the one they love." It wasn't anything new, but it was very well done. The yuri scenes were done tastefully and at appropriate times, and there wasn't much gratuitous fan-service, which I really appreciate. The side-characters had sufficient depth, and weren't just props - I particularly liked Sugi and Tamamin.

This was my first Shoujo Ai/Yuri, and I'd definitely recommend it to others.

Hi everyone, I'm just here to (not read spoilers) ask where I can read this manga?

I used to subscribe to it on Jmanga7 before it shut down and loved it, but had lost hope that I would ever see it again as I couldn't remember what it was called. I'm glad to see it went on.

I'm actually impressed this is the first yuri manga that was somewhat believable. I like that the author kept it realistic by making it a slow progression unlike a lot of authors who just have the 2 mains go from normal girls to instant lesbians the same day. That and I also appreciate the fact they kept it real by having the 2 girls keep it between themselves and didn't make every other female in the story lesbian as well like the author of Sakura Trick did or Bloom into you where they made the teacher a lesbian also. I thought girl friends was probably the best yuri story I have read.

Nice. After re-reading it as I have forgotten its story, it feels good to experience again the joys this manga brings.

Hello! I'm from 4 years in the future. I just wanted to let you know that Citrus is in fact getting an anime.
So there still may be hope for Girl Friends.

I was surprised to see mangaka just skipped entire year like it was nothing lolz, I guess 90% of school manga have to end with high school graduation :D

It's been my first shoujo ai series in a while, and I totally loved how fluffy and girlish it was! It felt like characters were female, not just "imagination" of what teenage girls act like. Too bad most of the romance happened inn the last 1.5 volume, before that waaay too much drama to my liking, there were times when I just rolled my eyes with irritation, mainly because of Mari... but thankfully she stopped annoying me that much in the last volume, so I don't hate her at least.

Akko and supporting girls were totally lovable on the other hand, I'd love to see more of them in the future!

This was pretty awesome, a sweet love story with plenty of angst, awkwardness and silliness. Certainly succeeded in making my heart beat faster and compelling me to root for Akko and Mari. While I don't think it breaks new ground as drama or comedy, it's definitely an immensely important title within the yuri niche, and I believe it deserves the niche classic status.

Rereading this now. One of my faves.

It's so great how they're both confused for equal times about the other's feelings. I forgot how subtle the initial attraction is. When you see the two characters together in the beginning you realize how well they might... fit together.

I always thought Akko was the first one to show interest without admitting it to herself, and Mari was just thankful.

It's one of the first Yuris I read after Citrus and I remember being floored by it the first time, the long pause before things start to turn towards a full blown relationship. Milk is the master.

Ah well i ended up enjoying it quite a bit, well to be honest Akko kind of carried the whole show, she was a pretty fun and interesting character to follow, the beginning with Mari was kind of meh.

Still i can't really say i loved it, too much useless drama that could have been resolved with a couple minutes of talking and i really hate when the plot point that prevents a relationship is the characters acting like complete retards.

But again i still liked it, it was pretty wholesome and seeing both girls feelings go from friendship to love was interesting to follow, Mari going from friendship to realizing she was in love and acting upon those feelings, and Akko finding her own feelings and realizing that she could come to love someone she had just viewed as a friend and changing her perception of her from friend to lover.

They went all the way which was nice to see,not just cuz i liked the fanservice mind you but i like it when the author gives us a satisfactory ending to this types of things, after all it's all their feelings finally taking place so it's nice to see.

Nice ending but i would have liked to see them together at the end ..... or cmon give us Akko you're gonna end on just Mari ? i mean i know the series kind of started with her but let's be real here Akko was the true main and best girl.

8/10 pretty satisfying yuri.

Truly, comparisons between fellow humans are what turn out to be the most infuriating.

So, the whole third year was skipped? Uhm... ok. Honestly, some events felt forced due to the big time gap between the previous chapter and this one but I guess it can't be helped.

And also, Harada becoming Tamamin's boyfriend? Yeah... I don't see it but I guess it's a better fate than becoming one of Sugiyama's boyfriends...

As a whole, this manga wasn't really that special if I'm honest. The issues regarding conventional romance were the usual ones and although the interactions between Mari and Akko once they became a couple were cute and heartwarming, most of the chapters were boring or frustrating due to some unnecessary misunderstandings.

I'm also a bit disappointed that the homosexuality topic was never really addressed. I mean, it would definitely create a much complex and heavy drama but I would have preferred that way instead of the "she kissed me but since it's common for girls to kiss on the lips (WTF!), she may have done it just in a friendly way and of course we don't need to have a proper talk about it either" drama.

That said, it would be a 4/10 for me.

P.S.: And on a side note, sorry but I can't get over the fact that Akko was about to get raped in the first chapters and the author used that and the idea of taking advantages of drunk girls as something humorous.

Still better than Citrus tho.

Ch. 35.5 - Just an Omake compilation. That said, poor Tagu-chan tho... all she wants is a boyfriend. Honestly, Harada would have been a fitting boyfriend for her since I still don't get how he and Tamamin ended up together but well.

another great yuri series from milk

but i will say i still liked Hana to Hina wa Houkago more but i did like Girlfirends more than Himitsu no Recipe though loved them all

with that said again the only thing i wish this had that would have made this perfect was just an extra showing more of their future but sadly didnt get much of that except for the little bit in the final chapter

but nonetheless great series

now to keep enjoying Watashi no Kawaii Koneko-chan as i look forward to every new ch that releases and yes im really enjoying the series so far

I really enjoyed all of the first 2 volumes and the last 1 and a bit, but there was some chapters in the middle I didn't really like. After the first volume I didn't really care about any of the the side characters anymore, as the they felt like obstacles that prevented Mari and Akko from talking properly and solving their misunderstandings (this was the worst in the school trip arc). Very good overall though, I can see why this is rated so highly.
