I personally like Japanese names... I don't think I'd name my child after a anime character directly, but a Japanese name that's the same as an anime character.

Though that's something I really can't determine now. That's many years in the future for me.

Maybe not. I won't even going to have kids.
A name for a pet would be good though.

Well, not all anime characters have Japanese names. Naming your child after Edward from FMA, Light from Death Note (personally, I wouldn't want a kid to be named after a mass murderer, but to each their own), some of the characters from Code Geass-seems normal, but is also unique because of who they were named after. But naming a kid Naruto or Inuyasha is taking it too far, IMHO. And would sound really awkward when put together with a last name that is not Japanese in most cases. If I were to have any children and wished to have them be named after an anime character, I'd probably opt to have it be their middle name.

Hmm.. I just added "Shana" (Shakugan No Shana) on the name of my daughter... There are so many "common" Japanese names that are quite normal, so I guess I would use some of them... ^^

Naming a human being and enjoying a particular kind of art inhabit two different realms entirely. So no. Nor would I name my kid after a movie character, or a novel character, or anything like that.

I was named after a movie character. It sucks. I mean, nobody ever realizes it, but still, it's one of the worst movies that has ever or will ever be.

Maybe, but only if it was a character with a name that was at least somewhat common in English, and only if my wife was ok with it. If I end up marrying an otaku, I can see it happening.

nah. maybe a variation from one, or as a middle name. but ill name it cos i like the name, not after the actual anime character or else the child might feel they need to be like that character etc.

I didn't really "choose" Pontifus, either. It just sort of ended up being my go-to internet name.

Instead of anime characters, why not song titles? I can totally see myself naming my son "Wollt ihr das Bett in Flammen Sehen" or "Georgia on My Mind".

I like the way you think, my good man. Henceforth, my future son will be Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, and my future daughter will be Purple Haze. They'll hate me, but whatever; they'll hate me when they're teenagers no matter what I do.

I would totally name my daughter Neliel, if I had a daughter. I don't even watch Bleach anymore, nor have I seen any eps with Nel in them, but I just think it's a beautiful name and Nel is such a cute nickname! And I don't think it's too weird-sounding... quite a number of people in my family have unusual names, so Neliel wouldn't stick out any.

I've always liked the name Faye (from bebop). I don't think it's too out there, but it's not exactly you're typical Mary or Erin. Maybe as a middle name would be better than a first name, lol.

I probably would not. But if there was an anime character with the same name as my child, I would say that I did name said child after the character, but only to certain people, namely the people who would know that I am joking, and some of the people who would have no idea what so ever that I was, (haha they're so easy to fool).

Why name your kid after an anime character when you can just attach a "Kick Me" sign to their back everyday before they go to school? It's basically the same effect. I figure if, heaven forbid, I have a child I owe them a name that won't get their asses kicked or teased on a regular basis.

It depends on how the name sounds. Sai (Blood+) sounds reletively normal for an American girl, but naming your son Gohan would be a bit hard to explain. :p

EDIT: Oh and most anime characters simply have Japanese names. Giving my kid a Japanese name will be like asking for him too be a social reject.

Hahahahah.

No.

Only if they're reletively normal, western names. I mean, I could call my two daughters (not that I have any, mind you), Teresa and Clare, and no one would know that they're named after the heroines of Claymore.
