| Not having read the novels, I really liked this anime. It was kind of weird sometimes and the pacing was a bit strange, but I had a blast watching this. The first half of the season was kind of slow and more structured and I enjoyed learning about the gemstones and seeing the interesting interactions between Seigi and Richard. And then the last half was just crazy fast-paced drama that made me laugh so hard (Richard dragging Seigi out of the London museum in his headscarf) or go WHAAAAA (the knife scene). What I loved about this show was the character development. Seigi and Richard truly helped each other becoming better people and grew really close towards the end. Like, yeah the didn't kiss or w/e, but the love was so palpable in this last episode. Who cares what's happening in their pants! Having said that, I'm definitely going to start reading the novels sometime soon! |
| Not even Hibike! Euphonium has dialogues this gay xD Well that wasn't bad, one of the best series from its season, definitely feels like a noitamina show, if every episode would've been like the first, fifth and eleventh, I'd say it's worth the watch, but since the rest of the episodes weren't as good, I just have to leave it as a passable title. |

| I never thought this was BL, not once. However I also thought the same most of the way through Yuri on Ice. I can’t believe they didn’t at least wrap up him and a simple sorry to Tanimoto when he was still running from his dad. I think they have more of a closer than brothers relationship however to some that could certainly appear to be gay. It definitely was a gushy BL type ending though. Too bad about Tanimoto left standing there with no more than a sorry. |
I was pretty sad that was the last scene we saw of her in the anime. But there is drama CD coming out this month of one of the cases the anime skipped and it will focus on her. |
| Ok so, mixed feelings about this anime. I really loved some of the episodes and others kinda annoyed me. I think the characters are well done in that they have pros and cons so they felt more realistic. No-one in real life is all good or all bad so I guess it's a good thing that they weren't one-dimensional. That said, they both managed to piss me off at certain points. From the comments above, I can tell that it's hotly contested whether or not this was yaoi-baiting and my vote is yes, it was. If Yuri On Ice is accused of yaoi-baiting then this DEFINITELY is. I just felt blue-balled on their romance the whole way through. Like, it's 2020 - just come out with it. It didn't have to be some big deal but all that nonsense with the Tamimoto romance was lame and the almost civil partnership. Like, come on - you know exactly what you're doing and I can't say I'm a fan of it. Some of it was pretty cheesy, some of it was pretty entertaining. I still enjoyed this for the most part so I'll give it a "Good for You"/10 (which is a low 7) |

The anime toned things down compared to the novel but I still don't get how people watch this show and think that we are meant to see these guys as heterosexual. At least the manga adaptation is more faithful to the original material but I don't know if it will ever get licensed. |

I accused the anime of baiting - there's a big difference. When I watch an anime, I'm judging the anime not the source material it's based on. There are countless anime out there that I haven't read the source material for but I've still managed to immensely enjoy and vice-versa. For example, the Ghibli film "Tales from Earthsea" is an awful adaptation: it slices up 3 or 4 books, it dilutes the characters in an abominable way and it's a confused mess. The books it's based on are MASTERPIECES of literature. Ursula K Le Guin wrote some of the greatest fantasy novels of all time and I can recognise that whilst saying that the film adaptation is awful. The book and film are separate pieces of media. Criticising the anime doesn't necessarily mean that applies to the source material. The Housekishou Richard-shi no Nazo Kantei novels of could be masterpieces, I don't know - I haven't read them. I have seen this anime and I can tell you it's baiting. I'm sure in the novels that it is just slow-burn but with a 12 episode anime where you know you don't have time to get there, then you know all those little pseudo-romantic moments and hinting is going to feel like baiting the audience. That's on the screenwriter and director. My criticism of the anime for baiting is not an accusation to the author of baiting because I don't know what the books are like so I can't comment on that. Just to be clear, I did enjoy this show but I had some big problems with it and that's just my opinion. |

It’s funny, because that’s exactly what novel readers felt like they were trying to do. What was left in the anime was such a tiny fraction of the moments between them that we felt it was being censored. I think they tried really hard to keep it as neutral as possible, to the point where some people can watch it and think there’s nothing gay about it and actually think Seigi/Tanimoto are endgame. But there were some things the anime had to keep or otherwise it would change the story too much. There’s no way they could have cut the entire London arc (they did majorly condense it, it was an entire volume in the novel and much gayer), that arc is too important to skip since it’s such a major turning point in their relationship. I think it was probably quite difficult to adapt 6 volumes into only 12 episodes and it ended up being confusing for a lot of people. I really do think they were attempting to aim this at a more general audience, because if getting all the fujoshi dollars was what they were after, then they had tons of moments they could have adapted but purposely chose not to. including They did what they could but Seigi and Richard’s love is too strong to hide. It wouldn’t be Jeweler Richard without it. In the end, I see this anime, like many others based on ongoing novels, as just an advertisement for the source material and it worked on me. Sorry that I made it sound like you were the one bashing the creator. It’s just that I’ve seen many people do that without doing their research, and it’s frustrating because the actual story is really good and I wish it had gotten a better adaptation but I think the opposite of you and wish they had put more of their moments, rather than less, so maybe people would realize it’s serious about their relationship. |

| Gotta say, I am glad I stayed here for long. The first couple of episodes were a bit too episodic for me but from the episode where Richard goes to London, it starts to get more and more interesting. Might not have too many memorable moments, but this episode really showed how far the two have come. Even tho I do see them pursuing a romantic relationship in the future (Again, the last few episodes show exactly how far the two will go for the other), I do not mind them not showing it explicitly here. (tho this screenshot may prove otherwise) This anime felt more realistic in it's portrayal of certain issues (especially the episode about LGBTQ struggles and also the last one about non-biological vs biological parents) and how the character interacted. It sadly made it a bit more dull as of course not everybody stands out as much as your average anime protag. Overall, I would give it a 9/10 (mostly for the feels tho) |
| Pretty good series. There were ups and down but it was a pleasant surprise and a nice wrap up in the end. 7-8/10 |
| This was a perfect final ep for a really great anime! I love how Seigi & Richard’s relationship developed over the series and I’d love to see a season 2 because I can’t get enough of this wholesome anime! |

| Not sure I really enjoyed this final episode. I understand the psychology of Seigi's character and this kind of being the payoff for it but it didn't really feel in tune with the show up to this point, slightly over the top and also underdeveloped. In fact overall while I enjoyed the series I think my favourite moments were the episodic stories tied to the customers rather than the drama of the two main characters that we got in the second half. It also had that Yaoi vibe, less than what happens in Yuri on Ice for example but like if you want to write gay characters then do it, but if not then all these clear Yaoi/BL vibes just make the show feel off to me. Less genuine. Anyway I enjoyed the show, it's the sort of Anime I always find myself attracted to watching. This series felt like it was plucked right out of 2007 or something but in a good way. 7/10 |
| So much drama for this final episode with Seigi's biological father. Glad it ended alright, thanks to Richard. I am gonna miss these 2 so much. They love each other so much π₯²π₯², my babies. |
