For the most recent years I've been seeing this Weeaboo shaming more and more frequently, and I could tell majority of the Weeaboo haters are mostly coming from fedora tipping Westaboo neckbeards who likes to brag about their superior Western games, comics, movies, and shit. When I used to in my early teenage years, I used to hate Wapanese people (there is no Weeaboo term back then). Despite the fact that I secretly watch anime that has yet to aired on TV while everyone else wanks on Naruto or Inuyasha. Then later I became more mature and started to accept Weeaboos for who they are and hell I even miss those people who used to make cutesy smileys and roleplays as character and I rarely see these type of people these day due to fear of Weeaboo shaming. They still exists but not as common back then. Then 3 years ago the explosion of popularity of Korean pop culture started to threaten the popularity of Japanese pop culture influence and that made me realize I actually like Weeaboos and I do not want Koreaboos to replace them. This is also the same case when Emo culture was at the peak of it's popularity back then and everyone hated them then later I realize they're pretty okay and the Emo shaming back then got out of hand. Now Japanese pop culture seems to start recovering in the West thanks to the $500 million dollar budget the Japanese government implemented to promote their pop culture outside Japan. |

I feel like this will forever be the loop. As people used to hate Wapanese people, people hate weeaboos now. However, the term "Wapanese" is not so popular with fans now, and that will eventually be true with the term "Weeaboo". |

I would say yes and no. As in you are right that there are a lot of people becoming ashamed of their interests because of a vocal minority of edgy nerds who cry over anything anime, or even fandom related online (a note to these people, internet fandoms are far older than your anti-fandom fandom, and are probably here to stay), but also no because I wouldn't want the community to be dominated by the you know, the kinds of teenagers who run around with naruto headbands pretending that they're japanese. Also, I think the sterotypical otakus still very much exist, just see conventions and manga shops etc. Finally, the whole weeaboo witch hunt is an online thing anyway. I don't think many people in real life would actually care if you liked anime, and even if they did, they probably wouldn't go out of their way to insult you out of the blue, and if they did insult you, they are assholes who are not worth your time. |

I could go either way. I mean sure it's great that somebody has a hobby that they enjoy and can get firmly behind. They shouldn't let anyone tell them otherwise. On the other spectrum though it's not necessarily good to reject your own culture, build misconceptions about another, butcher the language or crudely mash it with their own, or just falsely idolize it. As such Weeaboo has become almost exclusively a negative term. Although almost exclusively a non-japanese/western term at that. That being said everybody should have some interest in other cultures, be it Korea, Japan, etc. and they might want to rethink or reevaluate their own but they shouldn't choose one over the other. |

Oh, I remember those days. When Inuyasha, Bleach and Naruto was all there was on TV. Back then, there were a lot more weeaboos than there are today. You are definitely correct about that. These days, however, I've noticed that people are taking it upon themselves to label themselves as weeaboos or, more recently, "weeb trash". They've turned it into this ironic term and made it seem cool to identify themselves as such. You'll see a lot of this on Tumblr. I personally don't understand the appeal of that. It's like they're trying to create this new type of anime fan who is self aware of their weeaboo tendencies, but also seeming above a weeaboo because they're self aware. It is, in a way, weeaboo shaming, but not in a direct manner. So to answer your question, yes, I do think weeaboo shaming has gone further than it needs to. But also no because in the future (or maybe now), there will be people who will start shaming these "weeb trash" people. It'll always go further, as long as anime is seen as a niche hobby. |

As long as weaboos give other people a reason to hate on them, then no. (Keeping in mind a weaboo is a worst-case scenario obsessive/annoying fan and does not apply to others who just enjoy Japanese-related things.) Nobody wants to deal with a weaboo unless you are one. I've made the mistake of trying to deal with them before and I regretted it fully. It even made me dislike Japanese culture for a little while. |

They are the kind of people who say stuff like "HAHAHAA I AM A LOSER WEEB XDDDD NOW CHECK OUT MY WAIFUS AND HOW DEEP I AM LOL" which misses the entire point of being self-aware in the first place. I am an unironic anime fan (I wouldn't go as far as to call myself an "otaku" though, I'm not nearly dedicated enough for that title), but I would also say that I am self-aware. I don't shove my interest in anime down the throats of people in public who clearly wouldn't be interested and I am open to the idea that I might be wrong about things, and I can do that without resorting to tired "ironic waifu jokes". That is true if we are going by the actual definition of weeaboo, but I think the OP was more referring to the online "witch hunt" against people who express any interest in anime, manga, or anything japanese on places like youtube comments sections and such. Shaming people for being racist is fine, shaming people for their interests and assuming that they 100% adhere to some negative sterotype isn't. |

I admit I'm a bit of a weeaboo shamer myself (not as bad as others though) But I don't shame all weeaboos, I shame the ones who think their entitled to throw bullshit opinions on you, then attack you if you like/dislike something... In the overall I have no respect for all weeaboos (doesn't mean I'm mean to them) I don't respect them because of the life choices they made and the fact that they think its alright, its disgusts me and I can only imagine how hard lifes gonna be in the future for them. I mainly disrespect them because they try to prove that their way of life is good, but are all just fake... I'm talking about the actual weeaboos, meaning... 16+ years, sits at home only watching anime, complains about having to go outside, humps body pillows... and literally has no existence |

People are always going to bully each other for petty things, so there's no need to be upset about 'shaming' of any kind. If you know what you like and you like anime, then you should watch anime shamelessly. Let them mock you and give zero fucks. Only you can make yourself feel worse by trying to fight them, because you'll eventually end up on the same path the SJWs tread. |

It's an extremely stupid term, not only for its name but also for how hypocritical it is. I think the majority of anime fans don't exactly identify with their western cultures, and Japanese culture is a great alternative. Not to say Japan is perfect, but part of me always wishes I could live there. As far as criticism is concerned, I think a westerner who wants to be Japanese is a great match for criticizing anime. It's a lot better than some ignorant film critic who doesn't understand the appeal of anime. |

i think your definition of weeabo is different than mine. to me, weeabo isn't when someone really likes anime that they get into cosplays and do anime-related stuff. they're just normal otakus. weeabo is when that person (in this case a non-japanese) denounces their original ethnicity and culture and then go around telling other people that they're japanese and part of the japanese culture and just thinks that any other type of culture is inferior to them. and this don't apply to anime lovers only. you can love anime as much as you want without being called a weeabo and you can watch only naruto your entire life and still become a weeabo. if we follow this definition, then it's okay to shame weeabos. |

The vast majority of the time I see people shitting on weaboos, it's on YouTube. That's your cue right there to not pay any attention whatsoever to the absolute drivel that gets spewed out because it's nothing more than a crock of shit. YT is just full of people wanting mummy and daddy's attention. Ignore it. Everything on YT is out of hand, there's really no point to pay any attention to it at all. Well, I guess that applies to all of the bullshit shaming that you come across. Just ignore 'em. If someone has nothing better to do with their shitty life than hate on other people, you can be sure they aren't worth your time. |

Weaboo hunting only exists in the internet. In real life, people just don't care. They may cringe and think that you're an embarrassing person but most of the time they don't even have the guts to say it upfront. I see weaaboos in my college who wear anime-styled wigs proudly without an occasion and cosplay (even though they actually don't look good in it) during school events but people just let them be. It's amazing just how much the internet can boost your confidence to its peak. |

A lot of people got bullied for liking anime. So they decide to respond to that, instead of fighting back with irony. It's easier to like something if you justify it using irony. MY NIGGA KIRITO/GOKU/SAITAMA/ICHIGO/ANY TRENDY SHOUNEN SHALLOW MC DON'T PLAY AROUND YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO if she doesn't know about the current holy trinity, she's not the one bro... i will take [enter tsundere loli waifu here] and make her scream i don't eee what's the matter looking at hentai girl weebs (oh dear Lord): KYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAJHJJIUYNVNHVGFHBGGTGHTHGDGHJUYTTRRFBHJYTFVBBJJUUY HE'S SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO KAWAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII PLEASE RAPE ME SEBASTIAN OMG THAT IS HONTONI SAD MINNA I MEAN HIS LIFE IS SOOOOOO SAD IT'S NOT ME IT'S THE ONIONS NEXT TO ME NEVER GONNA GIVE YUU UP LOLOLOL XDDDDDD AN ANIME REFERENCE WAS MADE IN A JOKE SO I'M GOING TO OVERREACT AND TOTALLY LAUGH NEEDLESSLY HARD HE IS TOTALLY MY HUSBANDO that seiyuu (because it's illegal to say "voice actor" now) is so silky i want his tongue in my ear [any japanese emoji here since regular ones are now cancerous for some reason] [any snk reference here] i don't see what's the matter with yaoi. it's just love. and if you don't like it you're a homophobe smh for both genders: anime'd versions of their faces IRL etc etc etc etc... so yeah after typing all that i think they deserve even more shaming. I understand they're annoying as hell, but as long as they aren't being mean to you, why should people be so rude to them? Well, being annoying IS in a way being mean to people, like if you go outside and start doing annoying stuff in public...is disrespectuful...If there's a reason why weebs are such a bad thing is because they're not considerate of other people, they don't care if what they do annoys you, they only care about themselves and their weeb comrades, sometimes not ever their weeb comrades, only themselves... They disrespect people, and that's the problem... |

You are not your body, you are your brain, the "self" that emerges from within it. |
